Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver in 2026
i dont think there are any players left this year that are overly appealing in a trade sense, we should be looking at what we can do for next year. If we can get Answorth, Bailey, Lewis, (all FAs) add another 1st rounder or 2 suddenly we have resolved the 22-28 age gap on our list and puts us in the market for 5 years of success, maybe see if we can get to Bergman 12 months on. Gardiner, Justin McInerney other options who should be on our whiteboard. Lets take first round picks and then we can sell them on to academy teams, FS teams or use them at the top of the darft

NGA Rule changes mooted
i completely disagree, its necessary to grow the game in multicultural backgrounds, the ability to list non drafted NGA prospects from other clubs is huge too as you arent entirely being shafted by a poor zone. also talk about conpromised when the afl is handing west coast mid round picks that perfectly amount to what they need to execute pre-established trades and these tassie handouts where they must trade picks even if they can't find a player they like and might prefer to draft players and then get to roll them if they dont like whats on offer, could be 2035 before they actually use them, thats compromised. NGAs you now pay fair value and are responsible for having significant contributions to their development, they have corrected eligibility to take out the aussies whos parents worked overseas and were pregnant and have added South american and pacific eligibility giving us Ah-Mu's brother as an option down the line. then theres the locked Cat B spot for NGA rookies meaning we can have mentha and berry as B and still list Sinnema as B too therefore having 3 Bs (how i read it anyway) or maybe mentha also being NGA and not irish/basketball instead cancels that out im not sure

2026 Rule Changes
such a shame about the bounce, it was unique and historical. a few whinge and moan and get their way and spare me on the umps backs and "improving decision making" give us one to open every game that thump of ball into turf is pretty special and isnt going to do them any significant harm beyond what the roles and responsibilities they sign up to as umpires demands

Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver in 2026
nail on head, all this talk of we should be finalist, we are a finals list, we want to play finals, it sounds like they're trying to convince themselves because the truth is we aren't otherwise we would be, and its now been some time since we were and so we need to start working out how we can be again and for the XX year in a row our net outs seem to be outweighing our net ins pre draft and drafting takes time and patience, and it is a 5,6,7 year process to reach the summit so how can we best position ourselves to get there

2026 FREE AGENTS
Keep: Chandler, Culley*, Fritsch Assess Price and possible returns: Salem, Sparrow Cull: Campbell*, May, McDonald, Melksham Target: 3rd string ruck depth: Reeves, Blicavs, OMcInerney, Knobel, Flynn, Key backs: Butts, Gardiner, Broad, Vlastuin, Graham, Borlase Small Backs: Answorth, Impey, Hinge, Weller, Key Fwds: King, Amartey, Lewis Small Fwds: Bailey, Switkowski, West Good players: Butters, JMcInerney We should really target this group to improve our overall list profile, so many obvious talent and age profile upgrades who are capable AFL players but for one reason or another could play some reserves football next year. Prioritising Answorth once we see how his achilles heals teehee any of the three tall forwards and 2 of the key backs, gardiner hasnt bee paid well and butts/vlastuin could come at good prices bailey and butters the obvious superstars every vic club will be in for

hunter and billings were recruited to directly replace harmes and jordon as role players with better foot skills, problem was our game style and culture didnt move with the recruiting and we fell in a hole, but u could see the vision and at the time whilst reluctant we were to lose one of our own in Harmes and a 22yo in jordon (who we delisted ahead of others to make space when covid list cuts occurred) we weren't taking those players in place of draftees replacing other outgoings/list turnover at the bottom of the list, the recruitments of laurie when we wanted and thought we had our hands on Holmes and howes as busts hurt our depth when we then lost further players Brayshaw, Nibbler, Bedford, Jackson etc

i'd be really concerned if we signed flanders what that meant for rivers, as it would hurt his midfield minutes with langford, pickett, windsor and flanders taking tracs time ahead of him, having said that flanders could offer more than rivers in some aspects as a better ball user but with less dash and aerial game. think id prefer to keep the riv tho

Heath and Mihocek locked in then and maybe the giants have swayed derksen with aleer and keefe leaving, if i were him i'd see the writing on the walls after 4 years and switch things up also if we want a player for trac who at the crows are we asking for? Curtin, Filthy Worrall Soligo Draper Pedlar Butts Nankervis isn't much else i'd consider

2025 Player Reviews: #21 Matthew Jefferson
break or make year next year for MJ, will be afforded chances possibly at the expense of melky to see what he can do as a third banana i think when he can get on the lead and have a better matchup but we need to see some signs beyond 7 touches 3 marks and 2 scoring shots, otherwise cut our losses and try again

2025 Player Reviews: #15 Ed Langdon
a down year dare i say, doesnt change games, isnt a great kick when the modern game demands it, fortunately for he there is f all competition for spots in the 22 so probably has another year or two before he feels any sort of pressure, even if he gets tucked away on a HFF or played as a tagger to allow superior kickers or lighter framed kids to take the wings

Our 22 next year is starting to look extremely dire, we keep losing players in the 23-28 range who are starters or on the cusp with scope to break in and have struggled to replenish that age bracket through trade ins, whilst subsequently our 28+ cohort keeps ageing and our draftees whilst some have shown promise and genuine scope for stardom others have been allowed to plod along because the unforced exits have afforded them lifelines. Jefferson, Adams, Howes, Laurie, AMW should all be playing for their careers next year but given the ages of McDonald, Melksham, Campbell, May, McAdam of which supposedly ONLY melksham is best 22 next year thats already 5 exits, and then you have Henderson and Johnson who are sort of nothing almost desperate selections hits in hope without any outstanding AFL traits its a really bad spot for our list to be in, i think we could be 5-7 years away from competing 2026 Key Defenders: May, Petty, Turner, McDonald, Adams, Derksen, Berry (B) General Def: Lever, Salem, Bowey, Moniz-Wakefield (A), Howes, Midfielders: Pickett, Oliver, Viney, Petracca, Rivers, Windsor, Langdon, Langford, Lindsay, Laurie, Culley (A), Woewodin, Sinnema Rucks: Gawn, Campbell, Heath General Fwd: Fritsch, Chandler, Melksham, Sparrow, Sharp, Tholstrup, Johnson, Henderson (A), McAdam, Mentha (B) Key Forwards: Mihocek, van Rooyen, Jefferson, Kentfield (A), White, i suspect lindsay makes a fletcher-esque move to HB next year and i think there are real genuine warning signs around what rivers does either next year or in 2027 when he's OOC. Lever Petty Turner Salem Bowey Lindsay Langdon? Viney Culley? Fritsch Mihocek Chandler Melksham? JVR/Kentfield? Pickett Gawn Oliver Langford Windsor Rivers AMW/Howes? Sparrow?/Kolt? Sharp?/Draftee?

plays ahead of worner, banfield and wagner, and honestly chapman is a bit eh too but at least doesnt whinge about doing the team thing and locking down, and he was a top 10 pick! howes is no better than a vfl plodder, and is going to be gifted games on teh basis that everyone around him is falling away, has nothing going for him that suggests he is afl standard. I like the cooper simpson shouts, but LJ is the play here, i think we are a massive sniff if we play our cards right

did he show any improvement this year? isnt tough, isnt good defensively, isnt good aerially, and isnt quick, if howes is a regular next year its a concern for me

2025 Player Reviews: #24 Trent Rivers
i think he'll be strongly tempted with a move home in two years, he seems to always be sniffing around one whiff of midfiekd minutes and he'll be off, likely will be the same time JOM is ready to hang them up for the dockers

which would be so hilarious, and i'd have a tough time feeling sorry for them when its their own doing. Hopefully SOS never comes near our beautiful club
