2025 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
love your work sons, where do you have jevan phillipou landing, if his trajectory is anything like his brother he would be a good get, likewise hunter holmes? we were all over max until the cats caught us off guard and snatched him
- Welcome to Demonland: Luker Kentfield

Trade Targets
slow 1 dimensional midfielder with limited skill set when the game is going a different direction, specificlly to why he fell out of favour, matt crouch got his body right, dawson joined as a larger frame and sam berry temporarily went past him before they restructured again with peatling and more speed and class

CASEY: Rd 20 vs Brisbane Lions
Spargo can be a cut above VFL and also not up to AFL level, hes also had plenty of 16 touch vfl games where you would say hes at his level. one bog game doesnt mean he should be straight back in the seniors or retain his spot on the list, he doesnt change afl games enough in my opinion. at 25yo he had the same statline as 18yo Duursma we need to fond a younger player with more upside to play in his place Also what a dees fan refers to as "younger brigade" and other clubs differs so significantly, pup and kentfield are young yes but the other three are "inexperienced" at the level above and aren't gonna cut the mustard, how many 3rd-5th year vfl goers do you see geelong wheeling out every year, imo we've seen enough to know they aren't going to be capable of making the next step Fullarton as a key back is interesting, looking forward to seeing the next two weeks of him down there and what he shows

Welcome to Demonland Jed Adams
interesting to see who the sub is this week, is it jed or petty? which would be a bizarre call, or will it be clarry further deminishing his value and pissing him off, will it be mcvee pushig him further to the exit door, or will it be windsor further disrupting his season just as he starts to find his feet again

Welcome to Demonland Bailey Laurie
i have similar thoughts on howes re-signing. he will finish his new deal from this year as a 6 year professional footballer too! for 20-30 games and how many good ones? he should have at best received one more year this year but has fallen back into the side with others out rather than bang the door down and has never performed at afl level. compared to turner who came in and immediately turned games both as a forward and a back, there has to be more turner types out there and we shouold be looking for that rather than rewarding mediocricy

Farewell Charlie Spargo
this doesnt just come down to on the list or off the list, hes probably asking for 2 maybe 3-4 years as a free agent. he will argue 100 games and a premiership he deserves 600k a year (above afl average) as has always been selected when fit, or mayve he wants 1 year and to then reassess his free agency next year. IMO sharp has offered more goals per game, better leg speed in his games and even his sub games this year, tholstrup they will hope gets better again next year, maybe kynan brown gets a look in if he keeps his spot, maybe we have a target either in teh draft like dovaston or from another club who will cost lest for a similar or better output next year. if theres a combination of factors here we need to move on. we still employ and play 16 players from 2021, 4 years later! not many premiership sides would look like that and be delivering the results we do

Welcome to Demonland Bailey Laurie
if Laurie is determined to play afl games beyond this year, and to be honest this should have been a conversation 12-24 months ago, he should turn around to the coaches and say make me your back pocket, i will tackle, i will lockdown and i will stop my man kicking goals

Farewell Charlie Spargo
i feel like people make assumptions about players based off one action and it just sticks with them, when was the last time anyone saw spargo hit a kick or make a movement or lead and went ooo that was high IQ, compare him to say gryan who actually week in week out does this, no we just say it about spargo because its what he needs to be doing in order to make up for his lack of size, speed and kicking penetration. output hasn't been there its likewise for fritsch, he's selfish, he doesn't tacke, ive seen him lay lots of tackles and when he actually wraps people up they usually stay wrapped up, but hes a bit gangly and has some stiff hair so its just an easy take to make, and hes been working super hard up the ground this year getting possessions and distributing the footy which of course has resulted in less shots at goal so people say he's not doing enough to impact games anymore its hard to please
-
Welcome to Demonland: Tom Campbell
i thought that at first too but maybe its actually verrall is on the chopping blocks, apart from maybe one 20 disposal game he has barely fired a shot, especially around the ground for a smaller agile ruckman, and the draftee rucks this year arent exactly writing headlines so maybe thats the route we're thinking whilst also maintaining some professionalism and essentially a playing coach

Trade Targets
he would play the Nibbler role perfectly and is a good age bracket massive tick here, second rounder gets it done comfortably, pies seem to have [censored] off a few of their own with 900k deals for perryman etc, macrae and his arrogance is going to tear the place apart, he got lucky he arrived with the list he has, i see a massive cliff forming for the pies in 12-36 months absolutely not, he is just another goer, theres a reason he plays 12 games of vfl a year. where are you playing him? its not third tall back coz thats turner/lever its not third tall forward coz thats fritsch/melksham so its just nothing other than having deledio mention him every couple weeks on his podcast has he shown anything? 3 years unproven, may as well just roll sestan on another 12 months with andy back too theyll have a spot for him with worpel out the door, and a massive watch on Days career, they wont want to lose a good one i do think its scary looking for a skipper beyond gawn, that being said i cant remember the last time lever dominated a game and properly controlled the air, if the roos want to give him 3 years for an early second rounder im snapping their hand off, likewise if he wants to chase a flag somewhere else i wouldnt stop him, its one area of the field we have quality depth in

Farewell Charlie Spargo
cant remember where i heard/read it but GWS were named/linked i'd let him walk

Trade Targets
it may not be up to them, his value may also never been higher, if he flops or continues to clash with ross and spends another year in the 2s hes worth nearly nothing at least after 3 years he can still move on potential no club really wants to keep an unhappy player. they could lose him and go and get tsatas or hobbs or erasmus for less and might get the same output

Trade Targets
Darcy Wilson is a player we should look at with a skill set that is on par with what we're lacking, he is impatient and wants to play but ross has seen flaws in his game (understandable for a young player) and they dont get along overly well (possibly also because wilson hasnt taken the feedback too well) given the draft it is, if we could bring him over its probably worth sacrificing the earliest pick we end up with? could immediately step into a mid rotation rather than being a half forward player

Welcome to Demonland: Jai Culley
people are pencilling him in for 200 games and the 2030 brownlow, we beat up on a west coast side that is the worst ever. he could easily avg 9 touches and no goals over the next 3 weeks. he has played 12 casey games for 17.7 touches, 3.8 tackles and a total of 4.10 on the scoreboard, no one was asking for his selection for the first 10 weeks he played and with reason, he wasnt impacting, lets just slow down shall we, he deserves to hold his spot this week of course and maybe a 12 month extension is fair if theres enough moving parts elsewhere but lets see what he does next before we get any more carried away

Welcome to Demonland: Max Heath
Yeh it was me, it was on a sunday night after a saints game i was leaving work and i think it was finey said it was a done deal essentially, completely blew my socks off as he said it with such confidence without any sort of murmurs previously, if u want to try for the audio i'd say go for the sunday final siren podcast from maybe r18?

this caught my attention only because in a players interview from preseason either this year or last everyones answer to the fastest hands or players hands you'd most want at the club was Bill, i was expecting everyone to say clarry but bill was the players vote almost unanimously. given his size the spargo high HF role always had to be the one he was groomed to but for some reason despite other players like a woey jumping all across the ground around him laurie's magnet has been glued to teh centre square despite such a log jam ahead of him, maybe he was stubborn and said no im a mid ill play mid? but as u say, he was not at all close to a game at his last contract so the 2 years of the same practice has expectedly yeilded the same results

Trade Targets
he gets junk disposals, takes kick ins wraps around for handballs and kicks it long, as soon as they rolled him up to the wing he couldn't find it, McCarthy took his spot for a month and now theyve swapped so mccarthy is higher and maric is just kicking it sideways or 50m contest bombs

Welcome to Demonland: Jai Culley
pleasantly surprised, but he sits within the plodder with below average foot skills category for me. so him langdon viney clarry langford sparrow may work against west coast but against most sides that wont cut it. delivery inside 50 is still a continual unsticking point for the red and blue, having said that Jai did about as much as he could today given the opposition, real test is the next 3 weeks, sink or swim

Welcome to Demonland: Kalani White
quite the fall from grace to not even get a national combine invite, think its 5 noms out of 18 gets you there and 2+ to get a state based invite (dont hold me to those figures) list spots will be fairly tight given the lack of depth so clubs arent going to take many picks to the draft, we can almost rookie him. Sinnema not even invited yet (this was peliminary state noms, more players can be added to that beyond this point. I imagine us and GC17 requested to see KW at the national combine

Welcome to Demonland: Jai Culley
Culley is 23 at his second club with 20 games at the level, so still doesnt meet ya criteria

@spirit of norm smith my thinking with woey is too vanilla, what are his strengths and what role does he play at afl level and who does he go past the heath links were called out as "done deal" by i think it was Finey on SEN on a sunday night maybe three weeks back, i was listening on my way home, from work maybe 20mins after the final siren (maybe after heaths debut game?) didnt record the audio unfortunately or go back and look too hard for it my issue with targetting these players is theyre just more of the same, theyre somewhere between vfl and afl and dont offer anything different from what we have. realistically a midfield needs 1x DEF minded tackler/first hands operator. for us this is Viney/Oliver/Langford the perfect example is Geelong Atkins and youve named Brodie/Davies/Hustwaite 1x kicker we have nil but maybe Lindsay/Windsor, this is Holmes 1x burst "striker" Petracca/Kozzy/Rivers? who dont deliver it particularly well but exit with power and intent Danger/BaileySmith the dogs use Libba/Richards/Bont suns its rowell/anderson/touk (second two fairly interchangeable lions its dunkley/clug/washcroft I like your mention of Pedlar offers more than Spargo and Sharp imo, Lord i woulda mentioned 12 months ago but jsut doesnt seem to have the minerals to really smash a pack. i wish we'd targetted Peter Wright instead of BBB all those years ago when both moved for 4th rounders despite the flag Wright would be 28 now same age bracket as our core for the last 3 years and would protect JVR/MJ and allow Petty to play back, coulda been such an enabling piece of the puzzle Walsh's back is [censored]ed dont go near him fritsch is the one u have to keep of all the 25+ yo we have, he is too good on his day and in the right system will thrive and young enough to still have 5-7 years ahead of him look at gunston and what hes doing
