I'd have Allen at 1, if not 2 on this list and would argue he'd be just as gettable, the eagles need the draft currency

Dev robertson is making his first starting appearance too this week, he is a WA boy but the word is he'd rather a move to victoria and has many clubs interested. hard to see how he fits with us atm similar to brissie but should harmes/dunstan/jordon move on he'd be a good get at 21yo
  3. As the season progresses, i always find myself scouring the competition for opportunities we could pounce on or we might be realistically thinking about. Obviously our needs sit in the key positions stocks primarily and whilst we'd love a Larkey/Allen/Lewis/BKing to walk our way and lead us to number 14 or a BMcKay/Himmelberg to sign as a FA to sure up the defence. Likely we will look for some sneaky bargains and some astute pieces of business. I want to use this thread to spitball players who could play a part for us but might not be the big name signing that headlines the window. The dogs, as has been well documented are well stocked in the KPP department. I did a little list break down with the players in orange out of contract at the end of the season. Key Defenders: LJones, Darcy, Keath, Gardner, Bruce, O’Brien, Busslinger, O’Donnell (B) Key Forwards: Lobb, Naughton, Ugle-Hagan for me given the likelyhood Tomlinson has a look around again, and honestly even if he doesn't we should be having a discussion on whichever of Keath, Bruce and TOB the dogs move along. The ideal one is Bruce, being the youngest of the three and having the most upside given the recency of his peak performances as well as his ability to be the best swingman/forward of the three however i wouldn't begrudge us moving for Keath either as a semi reliable squad player to call upon the way we do with Tomlinson now. the second player who has caught my eye in the last fortnight has been Tim Membrey. Whilst he is best suited to the 2nd or 3rd tall position i think he has the mobility and ability to provide us with a nice lead up and high marking target with a really safe pair of hands and a strong work rate. Since recovering from injury he has been unable to force his way past King and Camaniti into the Saints best side and could be a stop gap option at only 29 years of age to take the pressure off JVR for a couple of years as we can no longer reliably call upon either TMac or BBB.
  4. imv this seems like a really weak draft, understanding we're many months out and champs are just about to kick off, but not hearing the same excitement and conviction about top 10 prospects as we have in previous years outside of Reid, listening to this weeks gettable podcast twomey has sold me on us playing a part in trading for pick 1 but not in the way we'd expect, using out first round picks to move for experienced senior players ie a barrass/allen or a larkey/lewis/mckay or a mking who can fill a need immediately and help get pick 1 from the eagles to elsewhere and load them up with multiple first round selections. The other option which appeals to me would be to move our picks back to next year as we also don't have as many obvious contracted exits this seaosn and should we pick up ky brown as expected and now Orlando turner being on the radar too we'd only be required to make one open pick. whereas next year we seem to have more decisions to make given our current fringe/young mob would be 3-4 year players by then and our tall veterans an extra year older and ooc. As we know JT and lamby are always cooking up something nice behind the scenes

  6. i mean every national draftee gets a minimum 2yr deal naturally so it's not extortionate to allow 2 18yo's the same just coz they were drafted a day later particularly given their player types and youth pathways respectively. alos the club has to have 4-6 rookies and we aren't going to draft 4 every single year are we so may as well tie a few up each year and give them a chance to develop properly otherwise whats the point at all.
  7. Not going to argue specifics but i think you're heavily overestimating on a few here, imo fritsch wouldn't be on any more than 5-550 salem 550-6 fairly certain BBB is on more like 400 because we gave him extra length on his roos deal, at the most its 500 i don't think we'd be going over this season and if as you say contracted players were to leave i don't think we'd pay a cent for them to move. Realistically we're discussing harmes and tommo here. they want opportunity and career longevity, that is why they'll potentially move. oppo club comes to them and says we see you're on 500 for next season and don't have a deal in place for 2025 right now. Here's a 3yr deal till 2026. you get 400 every season, so yes were taking 100 off you next year but you're getting it back and some plus you have a place to play and an extra 2 years you didn't otherwise have and were no certainty to get at the dees. that is legitimately how contracts in trading works, it's how it worked when we lured BBB across as he was well paid by norf on his expiring deal but they only wanted to give him 1-2 years longer and how geelong could afford bowes, and how will brodie fitted in at freo. but the giving club doesn't pay any of the $ but the player gets it in career length rather than a 1 year longer and out of the system type set up

Oscar Allen for mine, followed by Larkey, lewis still a way behind them both in the "best young key forward" debate
  9. I actually really like the suggestion... its fair and makes sense and its not garanteeing players go one way or the other but also for players like hugh greenwood or liam jones who may not ever play 100 games at one club but could play 100 games of league footy their kids being eligible for tasmania seems like a fair negotiation
  10. Has been named to play for the Vic Metro side in the Young guns game against U20s who have missed out on recent drafts, good chance to once again face some slightly bigger bodies and put his name in front of a crowd full of recruiters. Did we hear back about how he went?
  11. disagree completely, we've got mids coming out of our noses atm with laurie, jordon, woey, howes coming through and a top 5 pick plus ky brown this year (thanks freo), going after mature age forwards such as georgiades or even if we could prize King or Allen away from their respective clubs itll be well worth it
  12. yeh whoops definitely meant harmes not dunstan
  13. OUT: McDonald, Spargo, Sparrow, Tomlinson IN: Lever, Brown, Schache, Dunstan
  14. btw luci formatting error on rivers with the cup and also theres a cup next to joel smiths name who didn't win a flag, also not sure what ur flag policy is with hunter who won one at the dogs :)
  15. ziebell is still impacting, dusty is basically playing out of the goalsquare and is still a threat. i dont think theres any expectation internally or externally on any of the others you named to do more than play their role and offer leadership after extremely consistent careers, every year theres a retiring class dont think any of the guys you've listed are hanging on overly long tbf
  16. mcvee hasn't been officially confirmed or announced by the club, only reported as close to a deal or likely to sign a deal according to afl media reporters
  17. Viney Oliver Grundy Petracca Rivers TMac
  18. Going to make a second posts with some other fun reference points directly related to this weeks round 3 fixture, TMac moves past Barassi to 205 games played Viney moves clear of the Ox to 174 games Petracca will have officially played more games than Jack Watts as a dee Clarry's 150th moves him = with Whelan, Sean Wight and Jared Rivers Brayshaw and Harmes are on track to share their 150th together and move = with Ivor Warne-Smith, Nathan Brown and Leoncelli this week (games 146) ANB goes past Gerard Healy the dee to 131 Melksham is sneaking ever closer to 100 dees games and F/S eligibility (currently 96) Spargo draws level with Trenners Rivers moves past Ricky Petterd who he has currently got a mirrored record of (39-1-14) v (14-1-39), Sparrow is currently one game behind him. Petty plays game 51 the same Vanders finished on, and still 1 shy of Dogga Tomlinson moves even with Bugg, Scully and Wonaeamirri if named and finally Bowey matches the games of Jimmy Toumpas some contrasting careers in there hey!
  19. i spend a large portion of time staring at afl tables and noting interesting and completely useless things, for example the fact Brayshaw and viney are already games record holders in their respective numbers really surprised me given the low magnitude of theirs and how close petracca, , but we have fielded a fairly consistent side, i was also surprised by how little number of 200 gamers we've had and how many of our current crop are going to sit so high on the total games tally by the end of their demon days also milestone for tmac he goes =top in #25 this week and outright the following week
  20. interesting re JJ, on the fringes, already has a flag and we havent got any clear upcoming vacancies in the guts, woulda thought he'd be a low priority for us and would be happy to look elsewhere for opportunity and security
  21. given freo have recruited chapman, young and traded clark in the last 3 years id say we're safe from a freo raid and wce are so far behind that rivers would be unlikely to make that move for at least 2-3 years now but for sure theres a risk there long term, especially as he's already won the flag, and could be well paid esp by wce long term. but we clearly like him and trust him hence his increased role in the early stages of this season and exposure up the field on ball
  22. it's interesting to note that at present we have no 'B' rookie spots free and both our b rooks would be eligible to be retained as b rookies for the 24 season so early prognosis is theyd be unlikely but obviously plenty to still play out and so much could change
