2015 Player Review - # 37 Aaron vandenBerg (R)
TeamPlayedFine39 replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Love the way he goes about his footy! Needs a full preseason to build the tank (which will hopefully assist his DE) and probably needs to lose some of the bulk he's carrying to take the next step with the physical side of the game... he'll look like a Fremantle midfielder. He's big, strong, dogged and nasty... get him in at the centre bounce! -
2015 Player Review - # 42 Jake Spencer
TeamPlayedFine39 replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
He's a tryer and a bit more of an aggressive athlete than an AFL footballer. If he's happy to continue on a list as ruck depth, with one or two games a year, I'd say he's worth hanging onto. IMHO he'll never be more than an AFL fill in and serviceable VFL player... not that there's anything wrong with that. -

Attitude aside... he's a very, very average footballer.

DEES SIGN 4 YOUNGSTERS.
TeamPlayedFine39 replied to The Song Formerly Known As's topic in Melbourne Demons
Great news! Was very impressed with what Stretch and ANB showed this year. Will be very exciting prospects with another couple of pre-seasons under their belts. King is a project and it's great to see the club is being patient with the (skinny) big man... he has 'something'... -
Figurative.

Meetings, presentations, analysis and individual training is 'Player Development'. Poor player development has been the number one criticism of the MFC for the last few decades. Modern football is a lot like brain surgery, that's why the good teams with good coaching, development and game plans cut us up.

2015 Player Review - # 15 Billy Stretch
TeamPlayedFine39 replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Echoing previous statements and must say I was very impressed. I wasn't expecting him to debut this year but he showed that he wasn't overawed by the experience at all. The most pleasing aspect of his game was his passing. He would never bomb, lob or float a kick; but would instead lower his eyes and fire a kick low and fast. This is a forward's dream and a more than handy skill when attempting to move the ball through a zone or press. -
The guy is a BEAST! The only doubt would be over whether his body can hold up as it has been troubled him, particularly at the start of his career. Would love to get him through a swap of first round picks, but I think they'd need/want more...

If any human being was ever perfectly designed to play our game, it was Adam Goodes. Speed, size, power, endurance, and amazing skills. Could play ruck, midfield, key forward; inside or outside; strong in the air or when the ball hit the deck. Gun.

Daisy is the captain of the MFC. Can't get much more MFC than that...

Agreed. B&F gives you an insight into the role that a player is asked to take on each week. In this case, it would seem that the coaching staff believe that Col is fulfilling this role. The better part of his game is his versatility and, in particular, his ability to stand a resting midfielder when they rotate forward. He's been through a lot with the club and if he wants to stay on through another rebuild, we should definitely keep him. If he wants to explore other options, of which there would be plenty, i don't begrudge him that.

Nathan Jones to undergo neck surgery
TeamPlayedFine39 replied to Demon_JB's topic in Melbourne Demons
If this was Nathan Jones playing a seaon injured, he could explode next year. There was talk earlier in the year that he might have been carrying a shoulder/neck injury. I think against the Tigers on ANZAC eve he copped a hard knock at the bottom of a pack that floored him - looked very uncomfortable afterwards. Captain, leader, gun. -
Delistings/trades at end of the season
TeamPlayedFine39 replied to Northern Summer's topic in Melbourne Demons
Butcher would be dirt cheap, if not free. Big bodied, key position forward who regularly takes contested mark and is good in the lead. Yes, he kicks like a mule- but with all those other attributes, I think the kicking can be worked on; never to be perfected, but perhaps improved. IMHO. -
The Rising Star Thread - Congratulations Jesse Hogan!
TeamPlayedFine39 replied to Nascent's topic in Melbourne Demons
Thanks for posting the 360 interview. He speaks well and has a great attitude to his football. I particularly liked when he said he didn't buy in to comparisons to other greats of the game; that he wanted to build his own brand as a player. Love it! As an aside, I am amazed at how thoroughly boozed Robbo was. He has the close-talking-embarrassing-drunk-uncle shtick down. -
The Rising Star Thread - Congratulations Jesse Hogan!
TeamPlayedFine39 replied to Nascent's topic in Melbourne Demons
The arrogant way he struts around the football field is a sight to behold! He knows he can't be beaten if he's given an even run at it. Has the same aura as Carey, Brown and Brereton. Like a roided-up peacock. -
The Jake Lovett Thread
TeamPlayedFine39 replied to Trengove the Magnifique 9's topic in Melbourne Demons
When he's got the ball in his hands and his face scrunched up... he looks exactly like his old man. Wish him all the best and, if he's rookied, it'd be a great effort! Hopefully a late bloomer. -
I'm not sold on him as I think he'd need to play the Forward/Ruck role as Gawn (the league's rucking up-and-comer) can't play forward IMHO. One indirect benefit of having Kreuzer however is that, though his price may give Carlton the number two pick, it'll soften the blow of us having to slide down the draft order one place. Those saying it'd cost us nothing in picks are wrong as it'd essentially be: Kreuzer for a one pick downgrade.

Was definitely injured. Many, many times he'd pull up from a mark, tackle or turn grimacing in pain. Played through for the most part, but was clearly hampered.

Hype about the Saints - is it justified?
TeamPlayedFine39 replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
I think they're assembling a very even list across the field and their fans have every right to be excited. However, we will not know how good they really are until Riewoldt retires. That man is a freak to still be playing the way he is after all these years, in the most difficult and physically demanding position on the ground. If he was at the MFC we'd have won five more games this year. -
I rate Howe as a player and I certainly hope that opposition teams rate him highly when entering into a trade negotiation. GWS and Gold Coast need someone like Howe. He'd be starting 18 for both of them and exemplifies the most marketable element of our game: the speccy. I'd expect to see him on posters, calendars, t-shirts and billboards all over the northern towns.

The Rising Star Thread - Congratulations Jesse Hogan!
TeamPlayedFine39 replied to Nascent's topic in Melbourne Demons
I think Cripps will win it unfortunately. He has been fantastic this year and the games and numbers that he's producing are huge. With that said, I think Hogan is and will continue to be the better of the two into the future and, if I was starting a team tomorrow, Hogan would be first picked. -
Was very angry when we traded Stef, was always a big fan and thought it would come back to bite us... With that said, i was probably angrier that we traded Gysberts... we cleared out a lot of players that post season, one was guaranteed to come good somewhere else.

Training Photos for the Final session of 2015
TeamPlayedFine39 replied to Six6Six's topic in Melbourne Demons
Great photos! Petracca is indeed a beast! I'd say his skin-folds may be a fair bit lower now than they were at the start of the year. One blessing that could perhaps come out of his injury could be greater diligence in his training and preparation. Very pumped for Frost, Petracca and Trengove; round one 2016. -
IIRC Round 1 1994 v Geelong he kicked 8.8 with at least one out of bounds on the full. Followed it up in Round 2 with 4.10 against Hawthorn at Waverley. Was a sensational player when 'on'.
