  1. Good on you Fitz! I wish you all the luck in the world at your new club. He's defied the odds to get this far into his career and I hope he continues to do so at his new club. To play through what he's had to overcome, and carve a career out through hard work in spite of limited natural ability... Good on him and good luck!
  2. Very good trade for us! It's amazing that we don't leak at all! So much Josh Mahoney bashing this week too...
  3. Stevie J is cooked and doesn't make room for anyone in the forward 50 other than the one-and-only Stevie J.
  4. Port payed more for Polec who had shown less than Toumpas IMHO. Unless the Toumpas pick is going towards something greater, I'd rather keep Toump.
  5. Hong Kong would have to be the safest city on earth (touch wood). Have never looked over my shoulder, felt threatened or intimidated, seen or even heard about attacks of this nature here. Street violence in HK, like we know it in Australia and other Asian hotspots is very, very uncommon. The idea that he may have been targeted due to his appearance is something that doesn't really apply to HK either, as it a highly westernised place. There is nothing unusual about white, blonde people walking the streets. Very little chance of him being recognised (unless they told people) as most Victorians wouldn't know him from a bar of soap, let alone Sydney-siders living thousands of miles from home. There are party hotspots here, but there is a live and let live attitude that makes it a warm and happy place to blow off steam. There are however many opportunities to over-eat, over-drink and over-indulge and make a scene in LKF or the streets of WanChai. It looked like just the young guys from Sydney (under 21s) made the trip, so of course they were cutting loose. Perhaps Heeney was very, very, very, very unlucky in this instance, but I, along with every one I know, was bowled over by the news of an unprovoked attack in Hong Kong. There is, of course, never any excuse for punching someone and breaking their jaw: provoked or unprovoked.
  6. Mahoney was placed in that position by PJ, who has since extended that role. He has been through turmoil after turmoil at the club and continues to be valued and promoted. If he is an incompetent as some on here would that suggest, that would mean that the entire management structure at the club is at fault; Roos, Jackson, Bartlett, etc. or... It's only half way through the trade period, we're not leaking information, and the majority of the 'trades' that people are melting down over haven't actually happened yet. Unfortunately, you cannot accurately judge a trade period until years after it has happened.
  7. There is no way any club would have traded for him, his only hope of being picked up was if he was a DFA. With that said, I wouldn't object to Melbourne picking him up as a rookie, but I very much doubt that will happen. A change of scenery will hopefully be good for him. Seems like a cracking guy and has overcome some huge obstacles to get this far into his career. I hope the Hawks take a gamble on him, and I hope he does well. I don't think it was going to happen for him here.
  8. With all the talk of Kennedy + the Freeman pick from StKilda... I also would prefer Kennedy and Freeman himself, rather than the pick they get for him. Both players have pace and 2-3 years in the AFL system under their belt. Would take that it a heartbeat. This also benefits Collingwood as the less complicated their trades, the more chance they have of completing their ambitious trade plans. (Goes without saying that I would prefer him to go to the GC for pick three, but with the rules as they are, we have to make do with what he wants)
  9. Welcome to the MFC. He's one of us now and I will back him in. Bring on 2016!
  10. Vince agreed to be traded to Melbourne after being told he wouldn't be offered another contract at adelaide after 2014.
  11. That entirely depends on what / who we get through trading him. There's something thoroughly NQR and on the nose about the way Howe and his manager have handled his departure from the club. They've managed to turn a player, who should be a hero of the club, into someone we're sick of hearing about. He's shopped himself around and has given the impression of a player purely looking for a bigger pay day. I have nothing against a player needing a change of scenery, more opportunities or even better remuneration based on performance... But Howe and his management have turned this into a public cattle auction and the MFC and its fans have every right to feel frustrated. Compare this attitude to that of Colin Garland and ask which player would earn your respect as a team mate.
  12. Thanks for the report. So am I right in saying that the Bugg trade is confirmed; in that Bugg has stated he wants to come to Melbourne, and Melbourne has said that we want to have him? Has there been any word from Kennedy's agent? Any word from Collingwood that they are interested in trading with us? It's an interesting week that has seen so many trade ideas being talked about openly.
  13. I believe we had a nibble at him during the 2012 trade period but he opted to stay on at the Blues. He is a cracking contested mare, one of the better in the league IMHO. Would be very happy to have him as the second tall forward/ Ruckman but I really can't imagine Carlton letting him go for a reasonable price. For our third rounder... absolutely.
  14. Very surprised he could be leaving Adelaide... I thought his first half of the year was excellent.
  15. Wrapt that he's staying and his statements about the club were amongst the best I've ever heard from an MFC player - inspiring and encouraging. Otherwise it's just really good to see a senior player, turn his back on free agency and want to stay with us. I remember his break out game against Hawthorn in 2008 where he played on Buddy and have been a big fan ever since. Try not to read too much into his body language, he mopes around even when we're winning, it's just his demeanour.
  16. Love the way he goes about his footy! Needs a full preseason to build the tank (which will hopefully assist his DE) and probably needs to lose some of the bulk he's carrying to take the next step with the physical side of the game... he'll look like a Fremantle midfielder. He's big, strong, dogged and nasty... get him in at the centre bounce!
  17. He's a tryer and a bit more of an aggressive athlete than an AFL footballer. If he's happy to continue on a list as ruck depth, with one or two games a year, I'd say he's worth hanging onto. IMHO he'll never be more than an AFL fill in and serviceable VFL player... not that there's anything wrong with that.
  18. FB: Gillies Frawley Cheney HB: Strauss Sellar Bennell C: Morton Gysberts Blease HF: Tapscott Watts Maric FF: Jurrah Cook Wonaeamirri Fol: Fitzpatrick Scully Magner Int: Barry Tynan Taggert Bail
  19. Attitude aside... he's a very, very average footballer.
  20. Great news! Was very impressed with what Stretch and ANB showed this year. Will be very exciting prospects with another couple of pre-seasons under their belts. King is a project and it's great to see the club is being patient with the (skinny) big man... he has 'something'...
  21. Meetings, presentations, analysis and individual training is 'Player Development'. Poor player development has been the number one criticism of the MFC for the last few decades. Modern football is a lot like brain surgery, that's why the good teams with good coaching, development and game plans cut us up.
  22. Echoing previous statements and must say I was very impressed. I wasn't expecting him to debut this year but he showed that he wasn't overawed by the experience at all. The most pleasing aspect of his game was his passing. He would never bomb, lob or float a kick; but would instead lower his eyes and fire a kick low and fast. This is a forward's dream and a more than handy skill when attempting to move the ball through a zone or press.
  23. The guy is a BEAST! The only doubt would be over whether his body can hold up as it has been troubled him, particularly at the start of his career. Would love to get him through a swap of first round picks, but I think they'd need/want more...
  24. If any human being was ever perfectly designed to play our game, it was Adam Goodes. Speed, size, power, endurance, and amazing skills. Could play ruck, midfield, key forward; inside or outside; strong in the air or when the ball hit the deck. Gun.
