  1. I love the Swannies too but I'll be barracking for the Dogs next week, something I never thought I'd do after being persecuted in Sunshine for following the Demons from the 1958 Grand Final loss instead of the Bulldogs.
  2. What was the chemical composition of your cheroots? Ditto, Jason's? Drove through Nathalia often between 1981 and 1982, had a girlfriend who came from there. Also had a girlfriend from Finlay. Jeez, I got around in those days, especially for a married bloke.
  3. It there is a bigger jerk off commentator than Brian Taylor I'll walk to Uluru on all fours. He's even worse than Luke Darcy. And is he BIASED in favor of any Victorian team?????
  4. Jack is an ordinary but tall footballer. Good luck to him, he seems like a nice fellow, but honestly, he is very limited. I watched him play in Box Hill this year and was not impressed....
  5. After watching Scot fumble and get caught out of position and slipping and fumbling in the first half against North definitely NO THANKYOU.
  6. There are a lot of old foggies on both lists. This was enough for the Dhorks to beat most lesser experienced sides during the year but not enough to overcome the Fat Cats tonight.I don't see either getting much further. On a brighter note, saw again that spuds remain spuds, Frawley showing the height of his limitations, Fitzpatrick proving that he's maybe a one kick wonder.
  7. JKH came off in the last quarter at Box Hill after failing dismally in a chase on a B/Hill player. He came off straight away, lay down and had his hammies administered to. Nothing mysterious, just another Hammie tweak. He had been a very good player before that, apart from one kicking across the ground brain fade...
  8. For those with short memories, those who get so upset about the last two games: It is the end of a long season, a season where Melbourne fielded the youngest team on about 15 occasions. Hawthorn got whopped by GWS by nearly 100 points and I recall that Geelong suffered a similar fate as well this year. Once a team gets on a roll it's curtains for their opponents. Melbourne suffered this fate once this year, just once...
  9. I watched the Box Hill Casey game. Pederson, as were all the Demon players, was committed and involved. And in the final quarter - they were behind at three quarter time - he, along with Kennedy and Michie, stood up. Pederson's goal from the boundary was sensational, as were a couple of his marks. I'd play him before Weidemann at the moment any day...
  10. This is one of the silliest posts I've ever read.
  11. Casey were great today. Box Hill matched them for 3 quarters, thanks mainly to our wayward goal shooting, but Casey demolished them during the last quarter. Kennedy, Kennedy-Harris, Neil-Bullen, Oliver, Michie and Grimes were great, Pederson stamped authority when it was needed. All these players ought to be required players during the next phase of the development of the MFC. And, Chris Dawes who sat in the interchange hub and coached and encouraged them when they came off. I might add that Box Hill played quite a few players who had won premierships for Hawthorn.

  13. I watched Casey at Box Hill today - the ground is a 10 minute walk away - and stood next to the Casey interchange. It was fascinating, haven't heard such swearing since yesterday via my teenage daughter, but what stood out was Chris Dawes, in the trenches, encouraging, phoning messages to Coach Plapp, taking the forwards in the 3 quarter time huddle and 'coaching' them. The players took notice. His involvement was inspirational. The guy who stood next to me was a huge Dawes fan, asked me why I was and I replied that when he plays - and he's often put his hand up to play while not 100% - he is always there to provide a huge contest. He then told me how his niece had suffered horrific injuries in a car accident, about how Chris Dawes visited her, how he was still keen to bear witness to her recovery. If the guy wants to stay a Demon, fer crissake, offer him a reasonable deal to provide some much needed experience to what is still one of the youngest lists in the AFL.
  14. Just love the armchair coaches on this site, probably played 20 games at under 11 level combined, but they know how to coach a football side.
  15. Get some perspective: it was a success. Very young players playing in winning Melbourne sides, a huge percentage increase, a very young list in comparison to other clubs. Relax, the next few years will be good.
  16. The other aspect to this is when you're having a bad day, shite luck follows you around. And, lets face it, most umpiring calls these days are NOT based on rules, they're based on an umpire's interpretation of the rule. And that, as Lou Reed once said, it's all about LUCK! Teams like Hawthorn 'make' their own luck with umpires in that Hodge, Lewis, Gibson and Mitchell just have to look at an umpire to tell them it's time for a Hawthorn free kick.
  17. I find this stuff quite amusing in that most of the posts about this topic sound like they know more about the game/tactics then guys who have between them played hundreds of AFL games. They remind me of the Hansonite Clown who appeared on Q & A last week who knew all there is to know about climate change.
  18. I played sub-district cricket there in 1968, made a few runs, got called for 'chucking' for a ball I didn't 'chuck', chucked the next ball, got a clean bill of health and turned to the square leg umpire and begged the question, well why not that one? I made the Geelong Advertiser that week, one of my workmates at the Taxation Office brought me the clipping.
  19. If they weigh a whale at a whaleway station, where do they weigh a pie? Answer above...maybe somewhere over a rainbow....
  20. I was there that day too: I very much doubt that we won.... And didn't Hudson fall over Bourke's leg???
  21. I love it that there is a poster on Demonland - can't remember who - who kept telling us Hunt was the goods. That poster deserves kudos.
  22. The thing I've noticed about this site is that most threads end up bitchy sniping matches...
  23. How lucky are we that Gawn plays for us. This is, what his seventh year and five of them were spent in a pizza fed, injury prone limbo. The gods smiled on us when Gawn finally passed the entrance to Valhalla. Now, most of all, let's hope this adulation is not another way of putting the mos on him.
