Welcome to Demonland: Jack Billings
I strongly disagree with this. He's 28 and coming off 2 poor years, so where's his massive upside come from? We've recently brought in the likes of Dunstan, Hunter, Grundy and Schache from other clubs, and none of them improved in our supposed "elite environment". At best he's a depth player that could challenge Hunter and Langdon, but I'd prefer Woey and Howes to be given that opportunity.

The post says "early days". Really? Do they want a time extension to get a trade done. Lamb's last day specials haven't exactly been a success. Billings is no different to Grundy and Hunter. Coming off a poor season, and is probably going to be cheap as chips for a reason. I'd rather have some of our kids pushing for selection than Billings. Or we may as well kept Harmes.

Why Melbourne Must Hire a Coach to Solve Their Forward Woes
These stats are telling. The players who generally score from set shots have an excellent conversion rate. I haven't seen the stats across all teams, but it seems like our conversion rate against the better teams is poor. If that's the case, then it comes down to our scoring attempts in broken play. We rarely kick to the "hot spot" in broken play, instead we kick to the flank. Naturally this will lead to a lower conversion rate. So it boils down to the gameplan rather than just the players.

Yes we have enough of those types at the club in Kossie and Spargo.

I'm still bullish about our list, but you've ignored our coaching. We've lost 4 finals in a row over the last 2 seasons, and we can't keep making excuses. In 2022 the players were burnt out, and this year we were hit by injuries to our forwards. Those excuses don't cut it. Oh that's right, it's all due to loading, lol. Despite the top end talent in our team, our gamestyle is risk averse, and we have to grind out wins against the better teams. You can never question the effort of our players, but I just feel that due to Goody's gameplan, there is rarely any scoreboard reward for our efforts against better teams. Until I see some evidence of a gameplan tweak by Goody, I'll be a pessimist of our premiership chances.

I can't see the point of taking either McLean or Hately. All being well, we have a core midfield of Trac, Viney, Oliver, Brayshaw and Sparrow. Kozzie, ANB and Hunter can also be used as inside mids if necessary. Tim Lamb said in that recent interview that we are happy with our youth coming through, so I take that to mean that Laurie, Woey, Howes and AMW will be given opportunities. Plus hopefully we draft a couple of mids with our early selections. If Dunstan couldn't get a game when we were hit by injuries, I can't see the club pursuing McLean or Hately.

The Pick 1 Thread
Great deal for North, but can't see other clubs agreeing to it. WCE aren't guaranteed getting Curtin and we don't get Reid.

The Pick 1 Thread
I'd love to have a wager on that. North are clearly in the box seat. Our F1 could be 14-18. North's have far greater draft capital, and Eagles are guaranteed of getting Curtin with pick 2 or 3.

The Pick 1 Thread
I honestly think that North are playing games at the moment. WCE probably requested pick 2 or 3 plus another 1st rounder and a future 1st. North countered with 4 middling picks which wouldn't net the Eagles Curtin. The Eagles seem set on Curtin, whilst wanting to leverage the no.1 pick. The only club that can guarantee that result is North. I reckon it ends up being Pick 2 + 2 late 1st round picks.

The Pick 1 Thread
Curtin plays at Casey all year whilst Reid wins the Eagles BnF. They'd be asking for Curtin + 2 top 5 picks for Reid.

The Pick 1 Thread
My source in Perth said that West Coast see Reid as a flight risk, so they will definitely be trading pick 1. And I still think that he's going to North with either pick 2 or 3 plus add-ons.

JVR isn't KPF depth. He was essentially our no.1 KPF this year in his 1st season of AFL, and had to take on ruck duties later in the year. Naturally he tired, and his performance suffered. As for the astute appraisal, what are the main avenues to goal for the likes of Lynch, Hawkins, King brothers. Larkey, Mitch Lewis, Marshall? I don't see them as goal poachers. And how does our forward structure look if Ben King doesn't become available next year?
