Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I'll also be concerned if Petrie/McIntosh rest in their foward line.

Against Geelong one of PJ and White would drop back and counter the resting ruckman. Jamar will need to step up and put some defensive pressure on his opponent.

Our defence looks 1 tall short, considering Miller should play at CHF.

Carroll will take Thompson, while Rivers will have a huge job on Aaron Edwards. Unfortunetly this means that Rivers can't be a lose man in defence and do his trademark spoils and gutsy marks.

Does Rivers actually play as a loose man in defence? I was under the impression that most of the time he did actually have a man, but is such a good reader of the play that he is almost always able to "materialize" at the contest and be influential. It's hard to tell on TV though.

In terms of defensive matchups it should be:

Thompson - Rivers

Edwards - Carroll

Jones - Bell

Thompson is too tall for either Miller or Carroll so our no.1 defender must get the job. Conceding some bulk but makes up for it with skill. Carroll is much better suited to Edwards (height-wise) and Bell is the best match-up for Jones. Whelan will end up taking the Harvey type who floats into a forward pocket.

Miller must play either forward or on the pine and now that Bruce has found some touch he should be used in the guts where he's needed most.

That correct Nasher. That's why Rivers is so good. I simply dont understand how people think Rivers gets the 3rd up defender. He does not and they underestimate his capabilities.

The main thing that differentiates the two teams tomorrow is how much better the Roos are at taking marks in the forward fifty.

That is my impression anyway. They seem to be excellent high marks and it shows how bad we are in this area.

Its not just delivery.

i would expect bell to get first crack at corey jones.. jones is quicker than you think because of his laconical style!!

rivers back is just so important to the team and its structure... he is a out and out gun and in out top 5 players!!

the major problem i see is that little runt in boomer harvey - clint bartram for mine will get him but we need another rotation.. not sure junior has the pace to go with him... probably see junior go with daniel harris and try and negate this blokes clearances...

i think cam bruce may get shannon grant... if not then probably brad green....

we match up pretty well on most occassions - last year was the exception!!!

Rivers is the best 'reader' of the play I have seen .

Malthouse recently bemoaned that you needed to get 35 possessions a game and play midfield to win the Rising Star Award.

What a [censored]. Rivers won it as a centre half back by his inate ability to control a backline at , what 19 years of age!

So you'd play Rivers at full back? Taking away a weapon in his ability to float in front of a pack and take a grab/effect a spoil? Bit hard to do that standing on the goal line.

Miller is taller than Rivers, and Carroll is only a cm shorter so the height factor you mentioned is basically null and void

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
