He certainly played and here's some pictorial evidence - PICTURES FROM CAIRNS

According to a report on 'ology from twodogs:-

"Cale Morton - Pushed aside at times (understandably) but perservered, was involved in some of our better plays, will be a player, looked spent in the last."

Pretty much what you expect from him, still a bit skinny but good to see he was still in amongst it and what what ive heard does not seem too out of his depth either.

I thought Cale looked very good. Is a good height and is surprisingly quick for his size. Also has nice skills, good hands and a good kicking action. They had him mainly in the backline. As others have said he did not spend heaps of time on the ground and will need to improve his fitness but on the little I saw I think we can be excited.

Apparently he racked up 110 dream team points, so must have found the aggot a fair bit.

I think somebody would having been waxing a bit more lyrically than we've heard if that had been the case. May have been ranking points, but even then, thats a pretty damn good game.

i really hope they are foxing with this kid. he has an enormous engine so i would find it hard to believe that he was struggling at game end, perhaps it was taking the heavier hits than he would be used to. i have a feeling he will slot in quite nicely on a wing, or across half back. his foot skills are apparently sublime.

Pretty much my sentiments to a T, youami. He gave everybody else in the draft camp shuttle run a bath, and then, according to some reports, stopped because he had 'won'. And having watched him in a couple of NAB U-18s games, I can tell you his right foot is brilliant. Dare I say the best toe in the 2007 draft.

Beep tests and match practice are clearly two different things. It doesn't matter how big your engine is, first game of the year and you're going to feel the pinch. You make a good point about the heavier hits.

He could be an interesting quarter back style backman playing on the mobile third talls during his first few years. Be great to utilize his reputed kicking skills from point kick ins.

I don't think i would want to put the pressure on him for the kick ins just yet.

I just head something very interesting and encourageing on SEN. Mark Doran was inteviewing a guy from the official stats keepers (can't rememeber their name) about a ladder based on stats from the last 3 years. If all players were uninjured and played to their past 3 year averages, Fremantle would be on top etc etc. When he got to Melbourne (which was surprisingly at 8th) he brought up the performance of Cale Morton on Friday night against Richmond.

The stats people kept stats on all practice games, and had Morton down for 25 touches and one of the best on the ground. He played as an outside player and his disposal by foot was brilliant.

Very encouraging.

Geez I had no idea he had that many possessions.

The stats came from "Champion Data", hopefully a reliable source, since they're the mob we base our tactics on.

Firming for Round 1 - see Dean Bailey comments today. This would NEVER have happened with Daniher...

Can't wait to see the kid play

After watching DBs video on MFC website I got the impression that DB is not all that impressed with Cale, he was quick to move onto some of the other young guys, and very dsmissive of his game in cairns. Am i reading too much into it? Watch it yourself.

http://www.melbournefc.com.au/

I got the feeling DB was just keeping a thorough lid on it.

I don't think DB wants it to get back to Cale that the coach is content with his effort after 1 game.

Sheedy was always very strict with the most talented players, like he was with Hird, in order to get the most out of them.

He really made them earn his respect and i sensed that was what DB was doing in that interview.

27 posies in your first match.

Pretty damn special if you ask me.

From the limited footage i have seen of him playing last year and against Richmond, i reckon this guy is going to be a very very good player for our club.

I just can't keep from thinking he could be the next Pavlich.

I can't wait to see him at Casey next week.

nothing like pavlich

I think you will be proved wrong.

Have a closer look.

He was measured at the draft camp as a 17 yo at 191.5cm and he is still growing.

He has CHF written all over him.

Just give him a few years.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
