Paul Gardner rumour

Tex

Recommended Posts

I have heard a rumour from a reliable source that his time could be up very soon and it would not be his decision.

For the record i am a big Gardner fan and would be dissapointed if that is the case.

I hope i am wrong. I think he is the best president we have had in a long long time.

Just posting what i hear people, so don't get all antsy pantsy on me if it is just scuttlebut. And I am not reveiling my source, so don't bother.

If it's not his decision, there's a fair chance that the AFL are pulling a few strings. If that's the case, you'd hope that they've got a well credentialed ready made replacement lined up.

I really can't imagine that the AFL will be able to put their man in the job.

Let's just say it is true and the majority decide that it is time for a change....then I couldn't imagine anything taking place between now and the remainder of this season

That would be incredibly poor timing, and not in the best interest of the club - So I think you can rest easy for the moment.

Mind you, I do share your view of Gardner being one of the best we've had for a while, and I'm all for him continuing cos I think he is doing a stellar job, from what I can see.

I damn well hope that the AFL isn't pulling too many strings - I'd trust them to act in our best interests, or even deal honestly, about as much as I'd trust a Carlton president to sell me a cardboard box at market price and without extra off-the-books fees.

Gardner has been satisfactory.

I can't get excited, but he's not some kind of buffoon. I'd be unhappy to see him go but would be prepared to accept a good replacement.

I want him to stay On Board, ;) but to step down as al presidente' if someone better suits the pos.

Gardner's done a good job, especially in getting our jumper & or colours splashed across the telly in ads & so forth.

A LOT OF EXPOSURE ON TV.

Give us a break, considering its our 150th not the AFL I havnt seen or heard anything, anywhere. As we want and need members urgently the 150 was the perfect way to raise our numbers. This would only work if we pushed it preseasion not mid year or latter. The MFC is a publicity black hole, the web site is a prime example of this.

How many people over christmas wanted to know training times, in these very pages, its hopless.

As a club we should be shouting it to everybody who will listen, and even to those who wont.

We need to get a profile to interest more people to the club, this is the job of the board.

Just a minute..... you're talking about Ian Ridley, once my favourite player, who,in a moment of madness,( that I'm sure he regrets, ) tried to extinguish the Club we love.

He's the man who made me realise that players and administrators come and go, but it's US, the real MFC lovers, who just join every year, and turn up match after match, whatever happens, who really are what the club's built on. Ridley was one of the gutsiest and most skilful players I've ever seen. He was an unsuccessful coach, and the president who nearly dissolved our Club.

I think Gardner's doing a good job in difficult circumstances. He and his board(in retrospect) made a poor choice of CEO's in Harris, but we all make mistakes. Ian's mistake was unforgivable.

Last season, you didn't notice demons players in adds on telly, also melbourne supporters in adds.

I saw more red & blue last season on tv than for ages, in promotional stuff.

Just a minute....I'm talking about Ian Ridley who almost successfully engineered a takeover of another club.

BTW, nothing has occurred since which has proved him wrong, he just didn't foresee that the AFL would introduce the CBF

One thing to keep in mind when reviewing the merits of the current board was that upon getting their feet under the desks they opened the said desk drawers to find monster unpaid ATO bills.

Given that they were dropped in the proverbial I think that overall they have done a good job in getting the club going again [the handling of Neil Daniher's departure aside]. Not to say the job's finished yet, but I'm happy enough with their efforts thus far, so I hope the rumours prove to be unfounded.

Ian Ridley will alwayd draw a great cross section of opinion about his contribution to the Club. Jack has correctly acknowledged Ridley as a great player and his failure as a Coach should be taken in consideration that aside from 4 or 5 class players he had a crap list assembled by an Administration that thought nothing of blowing big bucks on Tilbrook and Ditterich and screwing quality loyal players Hardeman, Wells, Alves and Flower.

In the mid 90s, Ridley did have the foresight and guts to face and address square on the diabolical future of MFC. At that time, he brought to the surface a fact that past administration had failed to address. Based on what was known then, MFC could not survive financially. It could not pay its way and would have extinguished itself on the course it was going. I give him credit for the guts to face it. His plan for the merger was flawed. He got it wrong but acted in what he thought was the best interests of the Club.

Its a pity such a wonderful servant of the Club that has been a key member of its golden success could be subject to some of the vitriol and condemnation by supporters.

Well said RR. Do we alienate a person who has given so much of his life to the club with little financial recompense? For supporters to say that his actions as an honourary president where "unforgivable", is unforgivable in my book!

Amen. Tiger Ridley has few peers in the history of the Melbourne Football Club, having done it all, much of it voluntarily.

I have tried to stay out of the merger saga, but alas I cant help myself so here goes.

Ian Ridley was asked questions from his members on the floor on the night of the merger meeting at the Dallas Brooks hall and he chose to totally ignore his members questions, stood there dumb and didnt even make a polite "no comment" nothing, zip total contempt.

I know because I asked the first question. I made sure I was polite and didnt express what I really thought of Him and the idea.I got zip from him or any of his board.Total contempt from the pres!!!!!!! I dont care if you agree with an idea or not you dont treat your members the way he didnt answer there questions that night.

Dont get me started as I am still angry over the fact that it might be our 150 we are still the only club to vote ourselves out of existance. BUT contary to the then board and the merry band of absentee voters the MIGHTY DEES are still here so GO THE DEES and stuff the hawks.

I always have thought that it was strange that our Chairman is the head of Australia's biggest advertising company but we hardly see anything advertising MFC. Wouldn't you think that our chairman would chuck in a few tv / billboard ads here or there .... sponsorship?????

Theres been so many rumors about PG .... don't think anything will come out of it.

Just on the Vote issue, I don't accept that Vote as having any relevance at all. I like many others was at the meeting and not only were many denied the opportunity to vote, but the vote was severely tainted in my opinion, by the use of dummy membership votes with proxies held in the names of at least one former board member. In my opinion if you are voting to possibly merge your club only actual supporting members of the entity should be allowed to vote. If that is not the case any wealthy person or company can buy memberships and vote the club out of existence. I believe the club has since taken steps to remedy this situation.

The lack of publicity we get is a huge concern.

i think setting up the new training facilities and off field collaborative efforts are proactive and good for us, but we do lack the publicity.

The only time I hear Gardner in the press, I usually cringe, like recently saying he spoke to Steven Icke at Carlton, then saying he did not speak to him. Gee Willickas, where is your credibility Paul ???

I am very very dissapointed the football world hardly know we are having a 150th.

i don't know the full story but won't be sad if he leaves, just based on results.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
