FWIW, we rested Neitz from the PSC and Robbo got lighter duties and both went down with injuries last year at critical times for extended periods

This might surprise you Rhino but Neitz played in at least 3 of the 4 pre-season games last year (not sure about the game in Mt Gambier V Adelaide). I can recall him kicking 3 goals V Hawthorn in the NAB Cup, 4 against Richmond at Princes Park and 1 or 2 V Geelong at Skilled.

Interesting to see how they'll use him this pre-season. I'd personally give him 1 intra club game and a practice match on the last weekend.

Thanks BBP. You might be right about that. I did recall him missing some and thought it was all. I could be picky and say that only the Hawks games was PSC!

...and thus concede he played every PSC game? ;)

Checkmate!

Seriously, though. Aside from Carlton's performance a few years ago, it seems that a good performance in the NAB Cup portends a solid year ahead. I believe this is due to the winning culture and match fitness that taking games seriously creates.

Thus, I would love to see a full-strength Melbourne try its arse off to upstage the Cats at Skilled in a few weeks time, particularly given our poor year in '07.

Usually I would prefer us to blood all our youngsters in the NAB cup, but this year I think it is really important to get off to a good start to give our supporters hope that we can bounce back because if we have a crap year and the Kangas get more members than we do then the the AFL may look at us as the club to go to the Gold Coast and we all don't want that. For us to be a better team we will have to blood some youngsters.

I just heard the tail end of an interview on SEN between Kevin Bartlett and DB, and DB was asked whether Cale Morton would play senior footy this year. His was response he's now involved in full training, and out of the young draftees, he would play one NAB Cup game, as would Stefan Martin, Shane Valenti, and Aussie W.

This would suggest that we won't be just playing the kids.

Only other question I heard was in reference to the leadership group, and the suspension of Nathan Carroll and non-selection of Brad Green. DB made the point that the players had made a decision to show greater commitment, and within a week of that, Carroll transgressed again. He also said that Green was training at such a level that he's been asked to pull back at times, and he stills considers Green and White to be on-field leaders. He expects Green to have a big year.

Hi Guys,

Look, we can't rule out the factor that there is also a monetary incentive for Melbourne to Win the NAB Cup also (Which would be handy for the Club)

I think we need to be conservative, but keeping in mind that injuries may be easier to cope with during this competition due to the larger Interchange.

BTW - First time here guys, and really looking forward to the season ahead!

Does anybody know if our NAB game against Geelong will be televised (Free or Foxtel)?

I would love to see the game but unfortunately I have to be at work that day. I'm hoping I could tape it and watch it later, but I can't find any information on broadcasting.

I'm on the Sunshine Coast so there may be a difference, but my Austar guide shows that it will telecast live at 3.30 on Fox Sport3, so that may be the same in Melbourne.

Excellent thanks.

Gotta remember to ring Foxtel and change over to the Sports Package, which is the biggest ripoff package of them all.

Bring back the Footy Channel I say! <_<

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
