Vardy was a gun who played at least a couple of sensational season with us. Also, was he 28 when we got him?

Perhaps 26 y.o. Cut down by injuries a lot but he could bring it couldnt he! I remember listening to him against Freo. The rain man is born! Sounds like Welsh would be similar but slightly older.

Don't get me wrong, he still have a few years of good footy in him. Bails is looking for guys who wil play there BEST FOOTY in the next few years, and his Welsh's best years are well and truely behind him.

He is good enough to push for selection with the dees this season, but his spot on the roster is one less spot Bails has to develop new talent. And that is the aim of the club, to develop the list to contend for a flag in the near future.

Sorry, but Welsh is not the Answer. Sampi has a better chance of making th cut, and even he is an outside shot!

intresting he actually kicked 49 goals this year. people have forgotten his 8 bag goal against nathan carroll

Yeah. I remember him in 2002. GEE we looked dangerous that year. That's what made that loss in the semi so hard to stomach. But the sight of Vardy swinging around on his left, 55 metres out and calmly slotting it... it really got us going that day... and for a couple of quarters we were in one of those periods where it seemed like we were untouchable.

But I don't know that Welsh would be similar. I mean, Vardy was an out and out gun with injuries. Welsh is "ok" with injuries AND 2 years older.

The thing that suggests he won't make it is that we traded away a 28 year old, and it seems the right choice because by the time Bailey has an honest shot of making a flag chance, these 28 year olds will have at least started their decline. Welsh is no exception, and really, all it's going to do is deny Bate, Newton or one of these other guys time up forward.

Welsh is a top-up player for a side going for a flag in the next 2-3 years. That's why Adelaide are offloading him.

Welsh should try the Bulldogs.

if Bailey has an eye on us really being a force and pushing for top 4 only in 2-3 years time, then there is no reason to pick up Welsh.

the only reason we would pick him up is if we think we're a chance in the next 2 years.

the trading of johnstone, and the delisting of 7 players around 30 suggests that we are not serious contenders next season

some of the players delisted this year couldv easily had 1-2 years left if we were pushing for the flag next year.

ward, N.Brown, bizzel and godfrey were all in our best 22 by years end...clearly moving these players when they are still able to contribute to our starting senior side means we are not looking for premiership success in the next 1-2 seasons.

Jaded, sometimes you say it all so well.

You'd expect to get more games in the first year from seven new draft picks than we got last season from the seven players delisted.

Only Johnstone was a straight-up best 22 in 2007. And looking at it position by position no real gaps have been created, even with losing Johnstone.

It makes it two years in a row where our delistings/retirements have not really been an issue for team quality (2006 - Read, Nicholson, Smith, Motlop).

I take that as meaning that there are 11 young players on the list now, each one of which is either a break-even with the delisted player (playing minimal games) or a step up. It's been an odd calm before the storm in a way - the really damaging retirements are coming in the next few years (Neitz, McDonald, White).

All 7 delisted players were ordinary.

Ordinary players don't win you premierships.

If you said that we're not in a premiership mode because we're concentrating heavily on developing a group of 23's and under, I would have agreed with you. The delistings mean nothing.

We finished the year with something like 15 guys unavailable through injury/surgury.

As for Welsh, no thanks.

He's alright, but not for us. Could definately see the Dogs taking him as another foil for Johnson.

Mmm Hmm. It's a wonder it took us this long to suggest it.

It's surprising if we were considering him, as we would have Yze and davey ear marked for a Vardy type role. Have heard that it is actually the Bulldogs who are looking at Welsh.

Found this little snippet in the Sunday Mail in SA today under the heading 'Bulldogs show interest in Welsh'.

"Melbourne, which also had been linked with Welsh, last night said they had no interest in the forward."

that semi was one of the most emotional games l've ever been to, we were down then up and up and up then crashed in the last, l was exhausted after that game

OK....

It is seriously heating up now!!

Channel 9 news in Adelaide just reported that it is apparently MELBOURNE who have offered him a two year deal....

Thoughts?????

How big of a hole is Adelaide when in early November, a bit player like Scott Welsh is in the news report.

and a no for Scott Welsh, Krazy Jay.

Then it is a stain on our whole country when every media outlet continues to focus on a full-blown Junkie long after the season has ended.... :o

And as for Adelaide being a hole..... Let's just hope this "Hole" has provided our new coach with the testicular fortitude to carry the greatest club in the world back to it's rightful spot on top of the heap!

Scott Welsh has been officially delisted by Crows, after being unable to reach a contractual agreement, and he'll nominate for the PSD.

It's fair to assume that the Bulldogs have offered him a 2 year deal, however it would not surprise me if Melbourne expressed some interest in him before Robbo was re-signed.

Theoretically, we could have traded Robbo to the Bulldogs for pick 22, and picked up a similar player in Welsh for nothing in the PSD.

    TRAINING: Monday 16th December 2024

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
