The National and Pre Season Drafts

Channel 10 reported that Cale Morton is almost certain to be drafted by Richmond with pick 2.

That means that the Eagles are the only club standing in our way of getting Cotchin.

Now given what Cotchin's dad had to say about his son moving West, there is a chance that West Coast will go for a local WA kid.

Cross your fingers and toes that things pan out this way and we land Cotchin. That would be an absolute miracle!

That was [censored], a complete and utter media beatup. They will take him at Pick 3 if he doesn't go at Pick 2.

Surely Selwood wont be still available at 14? if so he is a must as he is apparently the best out of the lot of them i've heard

I've heard that too, but I've heard elsewhere (and the fact that most mock drafts have him 10+ would seem to agree with this) that in fact Joel is the best. The other three are regarded primarily as tagging players; Joel is the only one with natural creativity and a bit of genius.

i cant stand people on this board sometimes. cotchin, selwood and rioli? hahaha. all 3 are potential first rounders..cotchin is a definate top 3, rioli and top 15 and selwood a top 30. keep dreaming.

haha...sorry mate, i put question marks there for a reason...im no expert but i have seen rioli play a number of times and could be a good pick up, thats why i put him in but i cant imagine hes gonna go too early

As I said on my Cotchin thread he will get to us only if Tigers take Morton and Eagles are scared, after Judd situation, in risking another Victorian with their first pick. Given the comments in the paper they have every reason to be concerned as Cotchin could do a Judd after two years.

PICK 4: ?

PICK 14: ?

PICK 21: ?

PICK 53: ?

PICK 69: ?

PSD PICK 3: who's in it?

Cotchin/Ebert/Masten/Henderson/Gourdis/Myers.

Selwood/Arrowsmith/Mcevoy/Pears/Scott Simpson

Monaghan/Gilchrist

Rookie - S Martin/Paterakis

Not sure where you're going with Monaghan as he only played a couple of good games this year with Sandy.

Shane Valenti however would be a great steal as maybe a 4th round pick.

Lets hope CAC can snare Stefan Martin as a rookie because he is a skillful mobile ruckman.

I see Stefan Martin as a replacement for ferg'/holland. too small for a true ruck.

as for me

National Draft

pick 4 - Palmer ~ expect richmond or WCE to take cotchin regardless of where he came from. Remember WCE didnt do too bad out of the trades i dont believe with questionmarks over Judds OP. I wouldnt be supprised if Carlton take cotchin too...unlikely but O'Halpen is being moulded as the next ruckman in my opinion.

Pick 14 - Bellchambers ~ simply because we need another ruckman. Hes 199cm and great in the ruck at tap work. Can go forward and take a mark and kick a goal. Jamar is not up to standard and i have reservations on Johnson. White is retiring soon so Meesen and Bellchambers should be the next 2 youth ruckman.

pick 21- Collier - Looks good in midfield and down back. Played as CHF but at 193cm hes too small. He birsts the lines tho and could be used on the flank.

Pick 53 - Jones ~ in and under midfielder

Pick 69 - Not sure to be honest

Pre Season Draft:

Pick 3 - Darren Pfeiffer

The Dees are chasing Jared Brennan

Good news

I don't even know why I take anything you say seriously, but if we can get Brennan for nothing (i.e.- PSD), and Bailey manages to put a rocket up him, he could be worth a try.

However, if Matthews couldn't discipline him, I doubt anyone else could. Remember Cupido?

With Richmond and Carlton ahead of us in the PSD it's highly unlikely that a player like Brennan would fall to us at pick 3 in the PSD.

Even if Brennan wants $1m as reported in the Courier Mail (Jared Brennan's future clouded) the Blues would find a way to fit him into their salary cap. They have plenty of room ;) after ditching Whitnall.

I have a feeling however, that there might be a larger than usual crop of players out there including some rare jewels available at the top end of the PSD and I suspect that this is the time when CAC probably is going to be working his hardest talking with managers and persuading players who are in the mix to make themselves available. Who knows, it might even be worth leaving two places open for PSD picks if clubs are delisting to stay within the salary cap and other reasons.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
