What does everyone think? Does Bailey keep him on or does he move on? Is he worth keeping?

In all honesty, no, I don't think he should stay on. I think the club needs to move as far away from the Daniher era as possible and begin fresh and I think Bailey will be thinking the same.

He's actually contracted for next year I believe.

I think he'll stay. The rumours out there suggest he has already agreed to, but I don't know how much weight to put in that. IMO there is plenty of benefit to keeping at least one of the previous coach's assistants on so there are faces around that have plenty of player and club knowledge to share.

I like Riley and I hope he stays.

He was interviewed on SEN and said he loved living in Melbourne and loved being a part of our footy club. He said he wants to stay involved in footy and would be happy to stay with the Demons.

Quoted on the MFC and Realfooty website's as saying he's happy to stay. Whether that lasts through October, who knows?

FWIW, the senior coaches he has been assistant to have been pretty forthright in their praise.

Wouldn't a lot of this depend not on Riley, but on who Bailey wants to appoint to his team?

If he wants to put a broom through the entire current coaching team, Riley included, then isn't it his right to do so?

I think it is on one of the official club threads that he is staying next year as an assistant.

he's contracted and the only reason he didn't get the job is because he hadn't played topline football, Bailey might want to pick his own team

That's a bit rich. Why do you think Riley would have necessarily been better than Bailey? Bailey has had more success as an assistant (premierships with Essendon and Port iirc)?

I would like him to stay atleast one more year, just so the bald badger can have some one with some inside knowledge of the club.

With AFL the way it is, Bailey can watch every Dees game, and I imagine he has some idea of many of the players. It might help when it comes to delistings etc, but I think it could be just as beneficial for Bailey to make up his own mind re: their personality and ethic over the preseason.

If they're on the list for 2008, it doesn't matter what's gone before - just what happens from here on in.

I would expect that Bailey has already told the club who he wants as his support staff. I think Riley will stay but nothing has been said about Curren & Williams.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
