In my opinion Melbourne has a duty of care to injured players such as Neita and Robbo, to rest them before a serious injury may occur. An injured player and particularly an older one is more susceptible to injury and in their case it could be career ending.

Carlton has acted responsibly in resting Thornton and Fevola for the last few games, allowing them to start their recovery now and be in tip top condition for next season. I urge Melbourne to do the same with Neita and Robbo.

Gee, when I saw the title of this thread I thought my worlds were colliding.

I took a break from my take home exam on Criminal Negligence only to hit Demonland and see a post relating to a Duty of Care!

I do agree, all those not 95% fit should be rested. That said we do have to pick 22 ...

You know, I was thinking exactly the same thing myself a little earlier in the evening. David Neitz and Russell Robertson are valuable to our cause. Both of them went down with knee injuries in Round 2 v Hawthorn and then each missed a number of games. When we lost them, our season was derailed.

Neither of them has produced anything near what they are capable of (except for Robbo's QB game vs. Collingwood). On Friday night Neita's kicking was symptomatic of someone who didn't have full power in the legs. Robbo's knee appeared unstable and I noticed the odd wince at times. These guys are major assets of the club and they should be able to start recuperating and resting those valuable knees.

What exactly are they playing on for anyway?

Sheep stations?

Club records?

I think you will find that Fevola isn't fit to play and thus won't rather than being rested. Melbourne is already looking after those players that have had serious injuries (see injury list).

Most players will carry some sort of injuries into games for every team but they wont risk it when it comes to the long term future.

In a round about sorta way I think the club did show a duty of care on the weekend.

They pulled Miller, Buckley, Ward, Garland and Johnson from the Sandy team to make sure they had numbers for the AFL team next week.

It's not quite the same though.

Give at least Neitz and Robbo an early break.

GO DEES - Onward and Upward

If they are not 100% fit then they will be found out at Subiaco. I agree Neitz seemed to move OK. And as far as Robbo is concerned, if it is the same sort of knee injury as last year two extra weeks off is not going to make a difference. I hope they play but understand if they don't.

Hope Neitz' final season is not affected. Rest Robbo next week, there is absolutely no glory in winning next Sunday.

Neita went down with what appears to be a knee injury in the final few minutes of the game.

As soon as he went down, I couldn't help but scream "I hate this club right now".

I hope it's not serious, and I hope it scares the club enough as to not play him next week. Same goes for Robbo.

A little bird told me you may be having a little celebration, if so have a great time and all the best from Redleg.

I'm hoping it's a big celebration, not a little one.

Thanks though. I'm sure we'll be going harder than Carlton the next day

out of interest does anyone know what happens if we are unable to field 22 fit players on our list? it is too late to elevate a rookie...

Yes.

could you tell us what happens if a team cannot field 22 players due to injury or other reasons? does the afl allow us to play rookies? promote any players we want? or do we automatically forfeit?

The league rules state 14 can play in a team. So we need some serious injuries to get that many out there.

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
