Bell took many of this i believe, there was that period in the 3rd quarter where it just went back and forth out of there, we'd constantly play on and kick it straight to a 3 on 2 contest, with us being the 2. It's not good at all and i've only seen one year where we've actually been good at it.

When I've seen Bell take kick-outs we usually screw them up. Not sure if its his decision making or whatever but I never like seeing him take them. Btw, I heard on the radio that one time no-one went to take the kick-in: afraid were they!?

He's not a great kick-out, but it doen't make it that much easier when you've got no one leading into clear space. This is why we miss Paul Wheatley dearly at the moment. He's our best in-play kick by a country mile.

Was a very committed effort today. A lot of hard running and tackling, but as has been mentioned in the past we are pants with our kick ins.

1) A lot of the time someone would look to take a quick one and decide against it and by the time Wheatley got there, who was upfield, he was called to play on nearly as soon as he got there and was forced to rush his kick

2) The huddle can work well if everyone breaks with speed. Nearly every kick in, our huddle was slow to form and everyone would spread one way very slowly, not allowing themselves to get free.

We need to clean up this basic of the game, cost us at least a couple goals, and along with inaccurate kicking probably cost us the game. But in saying that I was extremely proud of the performance today.

collingwood entred their forward line 12 times in the third quarter and had ten shots on goal

they match was won in the third...they came out to play, we didnt

they huddle then they don't run hard enough, who is the defense coach? cost us 3 goals l reckon, and with Green missing a couple of easy ones in the third and Yze having shots from the boundary in the last we could have really close, even won.

as much as i like to see wheatley kick in, it is not worth having to wait for 20 seconds for him to get there, and then have nobody else to kick to. Not many teams have a designated kicker these days, and bailey should have woken up to the situation at half time.

After their points, we were in desperate defence. After ours, they'd end up quickly in their attacking 50.

They rushed behinds almost as an attacking move. We'd never do that, since we know we have trouble clearing it from the backline.

No wonder Belly did a Clanger in Q4.....there were no options upfield.

Once Wheatley bombed long to White near the centre circle. The result? GOAL.

If the kicker-in must kick to a contest, make it 65m. out near the boundary. But a better tactic would have been to try to copy whatever tactic Collingwood used.(both in defence of our kick-ins, and on their own kick-ins.)

Is it correct that the"huddle" results when the opposition "man-up"? If that's the case the side kicking in cannot choose when to huddle. It's a response to an opposition tactic. It's the one thing we've done well at, in the past ,with respect to kick-ins. But today, it didn't work.

There should be only one instruction for a player kicking in when his time is up and the umpire is about to call play on and their is no player in the clear to pass it to and that is to kick it long to a contest near the boundary where it can be spoiled over the line and we get a throw in at our defensive 50.

Today's attempts to kick the ball in made me more infuriated then I think I have ever been. It was pathetic, bordering on embarrassing, watching them repeatedly screw up kick ins. Did no one in the coaches box watch how Collingwood did it? I can't think of a situation today when the huddle worked for us. I do remember Wheatley kicking it 65m to White, but that can only happen when there's someone near Wheats to provide the shepherd. And now Bode and Bell are gonna get slammed for poor kick ins, when the problem isn't them (most of the time), but it's the set up that they're facing.

We tried the huddle today and it failed almost every time, surely the coach would have seen this and told the players never to do it again.

We have had a problem with this for as long as I can remember and it just seems to get worse and worse. Most sides use the kick in to launch an attack, we use it to allow the opposition to rectify their first mistake and kick a goal with their second attempt.

Was disgusted to see at the 17 minute mark of the 3rd quarter when we were kicking in, that the field umpire (No. 4 who ever that twirp is) telling the Melbourne player kicking in to "hold on, hold on" from taking the kick - solely cause this maggot was not quick enough to get into position.

Isn't a player allowed to kick in as quick as possible?

What about against Hawthorn when they kept telling us we were using the wrong ball(someone threw the ball back on the ground as we were kicking in). They didn't hold Coll. up today when the same thing happened.

A short delay in kicking in allows the zone to be set perfectly, allowing enormous pressure to be exerted on the defending team.

Bell had zero options when he turned the ball over to Davis, when trying to hit McDonald(?). However, if you're going to kick to a contest, surely you should kick it to the boundary line, 55 metres from goal.

I'm not sure the huddle is the answer, but I thought it was more effective than when we did nothing. I also think that the huddle could be more effective if we get closer and then break quicker, instead of milling around and then jogging off.

How about when Mcdonald was going to take the kick-in, then as it was abotu to be play-on, put the ball on the ground and called Bell in, so that Mcdonald could slip in and become an easy option. A bit cheeky!
