Love the last 3 paragraphs here!

Sounds like the fire is still burning with Sheeds!

And am I drawing too much into the title of the article "Lifes too grand to be bitter" ?

With McKenna and Bond supposedly out of the equation, then IMO, only one decision can now be made........welcome to the MFC Sheeds!

This game is fun!

My mail is Damien Hardwick is suddenly very much in the mix.

If that's the case, then I'm not sure I like your mail!

from what i've heard on SEN today it seems the five coaches in the mix are Sheedy, Riley, Connolly, Hardwick and Bailey

as i said earlier in the thread, those 5 named in the article were a result of media hype, not of what is actually happening...

Mark Williams has done his chances NO HARM after today's effort with an undermanned Sandringham.

He could be the REAL smoky in the pack.

Where is that mail from?

It's funny. I know from someone very connected to Essendon hat Hardwick is very close to their job. I can't guarantee that of course, but anyway...

Very interesting. I believe you are correct about this one. I heard something similar myself from a reasonable source. I am very interested that of the 2 novices - both have been coached by Sheedy. Lets just go for the Master. I think Hardwick and Bailey would be OK, but Riley and Connolly -no way! Hardwick has only worked under a novice coach as an assistant, although he did play under a couple of good ones! Bailey was a real battler as a player, and I don't know enough about his work with Port to make an informed assessment. Really, for where we areat it has to be Sheedy!

Can't speak for his media acumen or marketability, but Dean Bailey is a very, very, very good football brain. I'd also like to point out that the description of Chris Connolly as a failure is extremely penal. He took a 2-20 club to 9 wins in his first season, got them to the finals ahead of schedule the next year and then they had two solid and unlucky years when they finished 9th, a great season last year and then they have had a poor year this year, albeit when expectation was rife, when the Wiz hasn't played and they havent been able to refresh their midfield in the draft. To be so negative to the man is a bit unfair, but I guess there is no way to censor the moronerator.

I tend to agree with you on Connolly, when he took over the Dockers they where about as good as what Richmond are at the moment hopeless and up until last year had them firing. But like the Demons the dockers havent lived up to their potential.

I originally thought that I didnt want Connolly as coach, but as the field narrows I think he has a great chance to become coach.

Don't worry guys I am still pretty sure Chris Bond is still in there with a chance.

And in the long run he might be better than Sheedy who will only want to be around the club for 1 year or 2.

I remember Harris said "it isn't a popularity contest"

Also I remember him saying they want someone for a 3 year deal and they don't think Sheedy would do it.

On the basis of what "insiude knowlwedge" do you assume Kev will only want to hang around for a year or two.. .. Hadnt noticed him making a habit of it !! lol

According to the Age this morning the five are:

Sheedy,

Hardwick,

Bailey,

Connolly,

Riley

Also mentions some of the preferences they are looking for in a new coach. I think the way I've listed them, stacked up against the preferences maybe the order of merit.

Says a great deal about the great man! He is desperate to get that 5th flag and I hope we give him that opportunity! I can't wait to hear what he has to say "On The Couch" tonight. G Healy has been one of the biggest advocates for bringing him to the Demons.

Who really is the favourite. I dont think anyone knows.

Im hearing course favourites and Sheedy and Connolly.

Also heard that Bailey and Hardwick had OUTSTANDING presentations.

Riley must be on the outer.

Does anyone else have any concerns about the panel selecting the coach. Gardner, Harris, Lyon and Burke as i understand it. Shouldn't we have gotten someone with AFL coaching experience to help out .... eg. Parkin, Walls, Alves

That's not really a surprise though, is it? !!!

Hi guys, I know there is another thread based on which 2 coaches you can have.

But im just wondering now that we have the 5 guaranteed below if people can answer my 2 questions.

Who do you want to get the job?

Who do you think will get the job?

Mark Riley - Current caretaker.

Kevin Sheedy - Former Bombers coach

Dean Bailey - Port Adelaide assistant

Damien Hardwick - Hawthorn assistant

Chris Connolly - Former Freo coach

Looking forward to other peoples thoughts.

Thanks.

Latest Mail is that neither the Press nor the Dland and Ology posters have any clue about what is actually happening in the coach recruitment process.

i think sheedy will get the job...he would be good bc he is a proven great coach, but could also change the culture of our club by helping reshape how we are seen by the afl. his marketing and selling of our club would be invaluable. in that sense he is a once in a life time opportunity.

however i like the fact that Bailey was the defensive coach of Port Adelaide when they won the premiership, and he is midfield coach this season when PAs midfield has been phenomenal.

Bailey is young, has had success as a coach and seems like he has the coaching nous the be great.

i dont think conolley or riley are a chance to be honest. MFC members would crucify a decision for either of those 2.

it basically come down to either choosing sheedy, an old tried and tested legendry coach, or go for a young, new up n comer.

2 different approaches...who knows who will be chosen

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
