Who is posting this rubbish? I seriously think that some people who have posted on this thread are not really supporters of the MFC and are just people looking for somewhere to troll.

And if you people are not trolls then you guys are serious idiots.

You don't go trading good young players (unless a Judd or Brown become available).

We are paying the price of a poor or unlucky 2001 draft - now the players who were selected in that year are 23 /24 year old and should be starting to influence the competition- we picked Molan, Armstrong, Rogers, Miller. We had opportunities to get players like DelSanto, Sam Power, Reilly, Kelly, Maguire, Seaby, Steve Johnson, Hansen to name a few -some of these are good some soso but you get the drift

Point is that you have to be really careful in what you give away - it's hard enough to select the right ones.

Robert Walls was on the right track - clean out some of the older players (Ward, Brown, and maybe 1 or 2 others) and trade one or two of the players who have been around 6 to 8 years for some round two picks - all the players above were round two picks.

We have a good nucleus of players (when all are fit) - we need to keep them together

Dont trade anyone on our list under 24 with the exception of C johnson and Jamar.

Besides you would not get a 1st rounder for Davey.. And we need him as we have no other small forward...

Dont worry about COl Sylvia. Aftera big pre season and Sheeds guidance he will dominate in 08

If we got a pick in the early 20s for him I'd have a look at it.

That's one of the most stupid things I've ever seen posted on this board, and that's saying something. Davey is probably the most talented player on the list, the fastest, most mercurial and one of a few game-winners we have. Sure he is having too many off-games and is mentally fragile at the moment, but give him a chance. Top 20 pick in a supposedly shallow draft? Rubbish.

bluey adams, are you a melbourne supporter, or a troll 14 year old who's got nothing better to do?

Why the hell would we want to trade Belly.

Do you want to see us anchored to the bottom for years to come.

Great. The inevitable calls to trade our best players. Man I hate it when we dont play well. It makes people say such dumb things.

Doesn't it just.

WHAT A JOKE OF A THREAD!! seriously this guy has one bad year and idiots are calling for his name to be traded! Trade daniel bell, trade colin sylvia! some of you guys sook on here becoz there are players there aren't part of our future.. well durr these three players are part of our blooy future!! Davey under a new coach will fire up and get back to his 2004, 2005 and 2007 form. bloody hell daniel bell is playing his first injury free year and idoits ( u know who u are!) are calling for his head to be traded. some of these MFC supporters make me sick. and if u watched colin sylvia like i did back in the under 18s u wonder why this kid was such a superstar back then. getting the ball 30 times a week and kicking four goals from the middle gets me excited. ffs he hasn't even had one good tough hard pre season!! be patient you grumpy people!!!

DAZZLER!!! Watch out, he's on a role....

finally someone agrees with me. You are the only one so far

And what does that tell you? You bang on and on and the result is always the same... Sweet diddly...

I thought the original post made an interesting point. First of all, let me say, we are not going to trade Davey. Simple as that. We won't, we shouldn't, we'd be stupid if we did... HOWEVER...

After my initial five-minute-long scoff at the suggestion, I had a closer look and realised what the original point of this thread was, and the more I though about it the closer it got to making sense.

- You have to trade something to get something. Everyone always says trade Wheatley/Ferguson, but what would we get for them? This is the crux of the Green, Trav, Bruce, Sylvia trade talk... They have value.

- Davey's form and mood has taken a HUGE dive, and worse than that he's been misbehaving. We made the right call (I reckon) with Jeff Farmer who was more trouble than he was worth. At the time people decried the trading tactic, as they did with he-who-shall-not-be-named... but in the end, we offloaded trouble after identifying we were going to struggle with him around. Long story short, if they traded Davey they'd have a riot to deal with, but in the long run, if Davey did what Farmer has done (come out of his shell and become arrogant and self-serving), those who traded him would be lauded as geniuses.

- He's lost his coach. That shakes the ground you stand on no matter who you are. His mate Byron could very easily not be at MFC next year, and Wrecker hasn't been seen for god knows how long.

- Davey can do things no-one else in the league (besides maybe Alwyn) can do... But with that great skill comes enormous weaknesses. As Rhino has pointed out over and over, he's not proven himself in finals, and this year has made me lose all confidence in his finals credentials... So in short, he's a flashy, dangerous, star player that we picked up for nothing, but if he's not going to drag us over the line in a premiership, doesn't it make sense to go with your head not your heart?

After all that playing devils advocate, I know in my head that despite it being HUGELY unpopular, there would be benefits to making the decision to offer him in trades.

But as far as I'm concerned, unless we get the next big KP player, we are always going to get the raw end of the deal. A new club would almost certainly rejuvenate him. A decent set of team-mates and enforcers would free him up wonderfully (imagine him at Sydney or West Coast) and he'd hurt us in years to come. This year is NOT a strong draft year and there is NO WAY KNOWN he's only worth a second rounder. If Tarrant can go for a first rounder in a superdraft year, then Aaron's asking price should be top 6 this year. In my opinion though, the ONLY reason we'd trade him is if we got a bona-fide KP defender, or an up and coming ruckman like McKintosh...

In the end, we don't have a dearth of crumbing forwards, Davey is the best in the league, or slightly behind Didak if you barrack for the pies... we'd be robbing Peter to pay Paul.

Simply put, you don't trade your best players. They're hard enough to come by as it is.

99 times out of 100 you say no to a Davey trade... and on the 100th... you think about it... and you still say no.

You trade to improve your list...period. Its not a criteria set by age although age may be a factor to consider.

"you dont trade your best players"

You do when you believe they will extract a player who better assists our list and at the same time may offer something to someone else.

And why do we want to keep and pension alot of "best" players who are AFL rated B- and C graders? Our senior best are pedestrian in output.

We wont trade all of them and that is not the intention. However there are some we should definitely look to trade....TJ and Robbo are my two who I believe will offer someone else something in the window of a premiership but they offer little to us with creaking bodies, diminishing skills and a drag on culture.

Davey, I had question marks about him at the end of last year. They are now serious doubts about him. He is a physically slight, temperamentally challenged crumber who doesn't do much crumbing. He is restricted to one position and cannot play up the ground, He has a limited ticker and can only run in bursts. His defensive skills are limited due to his slight frame. His inability to win the contested ball when under close pressure make him invisible on the ground. Oppositions know to rotate a hard tag on him and he cant cope with it. His nickname Flash suits him.

We have him a long contract that has overvalued his contribution to the team and I think he would do well at a WCE or similar who lack a crumbing forward. I would be looking at trading opportunities for him.

Ive been constantly mad at Davey over the years for being weak.

But trade him? hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.

People are a little bit brain dead arent they?

One of the few on this team with skill.

if someone can explain to me how trading bell (i assume for around a 2nd round pick) will improve our list.

Bell is 22 yrs old, a highly rated first round pick from 4 years ago who has finally had his break out year. his body is now fully developed and he is ready to take on the afl by playing quality and consistent football. he is definitely one of our best young players and has shown this year he can be quality.

people want to trade him for, lets say, pick 28ish. we pick up a guy who might come good, might not. he takes 4 years to get to bells development anyways.

some poeple on this board are simply dense headed.

you DO NOT trade the likes of sylvia, bell or davey who are 21-22 yrs old and just showing they are quality youngsters for 2nd round picks.

The only trades worth considering are for our 27 yr olds (green, bruce and jonno) who have already shown exactly what output they are capable of, have dissapointed yet still have market value.

*SHAKING HEAD IN DISBELIEF* You have to be kidding me, trade Davey??? Do we want any kind of pace in this side or do we want a team full of Hollands? Better yet lets just trade everyone and get a total new team. There problem solved

I read the fist few posts in this thread and refuse to read anymore in fear that people are supporting this!

TRADING DAVEY IS JUST DUMB AND STUPID!!! An idea thought of out of annoyance and panic!

TRADING BELL IS JUST ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS!!!!!! DUMB AND STUPID ARE NOT EVEN WORDS TO DESCRIBE IT!!! Bell has been a revelation in a disappointing year. It's players like Bell, Jones, Newton, Bate and Sylvia that are making the games bearable to watch.

Davey is not one of our best players. On his day he is, but averaged out over a season, he most definitely is not.

Averaged out over the season?

Who has had a goood season? None that I can think of.

Davey has the attributes that are required as the game gets quicker - pace and skill. He might have had a disappointing year but so have the almost all of his team mates. We do need to look at trades but I would proffer the likes of Bruce and Green before Davey maybe even Johnstone. Sure as hell would never see any of those 3 applying the defensive pressure Davey does.

I am with Rhino on this, you only trade to get someone who will give you a substantial improvement......

However the unfortunate flip side of this is to get something good we are going to have to give up something good, because that is the way it works.

The way I see it you trade to fill a hole or to cover a void that you have, not to simply to get rid of a player. If you can't get someone better or someone that you need then trading can become a fairly useless prospect as you can tend to just be moving pieces around and swap one set of problems for another.

As for whether we trade Davey (or Bruce or Green or Johnstone or Bell or whoever) I would have thought that it would depend nearly entirely on who or what we would be able to get in return, because we re the club, are already well aware of what his value to the team is, both the pro and the con.

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
