NON-MFC: Round 02

Have to say. Great Game

2 free kicks for stepping over the centre line at centre ball ups is really annoying. Technical free kicks make AFL less watchable.

Watching Hawthorn v Sydney and I don't remember a game with so little congestion. Loving the rule changes.

Scilly is just a marking machine.

At 30 last year he averaged 8 per game.

Not sure how many are contested but I'd wager quite a few.

We need Lever to get back to his best and be more like JS. Jake is actually a year younger.

Petty isn't bad and I'm so happy we can play him in his true spot. But we shouldn't have to rely on Max dropping back.

If Lever picks up, Disco keeps improving and Petty plays his best it's not too shabby a backline.

I thought the umps were bog ordinary in our game but let a lot go so as to not decide the game.

Ginnivan playing golf after the game?

Watson clearly concussed

Typical Hawks with zero care for their players

Surely the AFL Doctor will step in. That was a very clear head knock.

You know the rules in the AFL.

There are none

Hawks stiff. I’d be furious.

This Hawthorn forward line would be a nightmare to play in. 5 of them trying to kick goal of the year, and Gunstan the only one doing the right thing.

Swans have totally run out of puff.

Some really soft 50’s dished out there. Free kicks 27 to 16. Hawks well looked after by the Umps.

Horrible skills from the Hawks

12 more scoring shots and almost lost

Chol could be a good player if he could hold a mark

Hawks dominated possession later in the game ... Swans couldn't keep hold of the ball

Barrass BOG

Dominated

Curnow is not the star some think he is

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.
