Not much love for TDK on here. He was up against the best ruckman in the last 30 years.

When you swap clubs for a very high salary you have to produce the goods, not on poorer sides but on the good ones. I have not seen him a lot but on the games I have seen I thought the saints were over paying.

Can I just say well done to all the Dee supporters on level one Punt Road end yesterday, the roar when Fritsch kicked that last goal, was amazing!! It's the loudest one I have heard for a bloody long time, also given the number of younger supporters in that area it's what will keep them coming back as it makes you feel that your part of something special.

I hope/think we are in for a great ride over the next few seasons. Go Dee's

It was very good all day for “ROO” every time he got the ball. Even thought I am in the veteran stage I jump to my feet and punched the air. It's a feeling being in the crowd that you cannot get st home in front of the tv.

Said father being the St Kilda list manager probably had a fair bit to do with it. No conflicts, just chasing the best available talent I’m sure..

And now they're paying philippu a million dollars a year, someone who has done nothing, imagine that a kid that showed almost nothing

Maybe, like the players, they’re a bit rusty. Also, they now have a few new rules that they have to get their heads around. I refuse to believe that they are somehow under orders to disadvantage our club… that’s one conspiracy theory that doesn’t sit well with me (I’m not saying that you are a conspiracy theorist DemonOx, but there are those who definitely fit the bill)

I’m of the opinion that they probably aren’t paid enough, considering the level of abuse that is directed at them.

What about the saints player in the last quarter with the ball with no way out just ran over the line in the behind area. Isn’t that a free kick to the other side. Nothing paid!

Very good win and I really appreciate the game style. It’s hectic and at times nonsensical but it’s the way footy is going off the backline.

To be fair I always thought stalling at CHF and waiting for the F50 to fill up with opposition players before bombing it to a pocket was nonsensical.

It was too loud for my 5 year old from Canberra. That’s fine. But can they play people’s songs right after their goal? They have a short bell or explosion before the song and it takes the sting out of the… sting.

Imagine Latrelle kicking THAT goal straight into “oops I did it again”…

Mentioned on radio a short while ago TDK came into the game with a virus.

Not sure how true that is, but poor guy might’ve caught one after the game with all that chasing.

Maybe now you’ll go a bit easier on Sharpie, @old dee ?

Even if it’s just no longer calling him “Blunt”

Unlike Braydon Maynard who is a right James Blunt.

Why is everyone's quotes being duplicated in their replies?

Absolutely. But if the ‘sense’ is keeping the opposition to 65 points - our gameplan of bombing to the pockets is true to that.

I just meant ‘the handball over the shoulder to get someone into space’ was nonsense at times but players must love it.

WHAT A GAME!!

So much fun to watch. King has done an amazing job in the off season to completely redesign the team and game plan

Culley is the real deal.

Agree re Culley. How on earth did West Coast let him go?

I'm just stoked we're playing some daring footy.
I've said it before and I'll say it again.
Goodwin blew a golden opportunity to build the club on the GF success by boring not only us but the AFL and football public to tears with his defensive game plan.

I remember in maybe '22 after choking Richmond to death in the ANZAC game Langdon was interviewed in the rooms.
He stated that the clubs aim was to make these big Blockbusters as boring as possible.
And I just thought "NOOO."
Fast forward a couple years and we get no primetime games, 30K attendence and relegated to sunday arvos.

Here are the coaches' votes for those interested.

Melbourne v St Kilda

9 Jacob van Rooyen (MELB)
8 Max Hall (STK)
7 Max Gawn (MELB)
2 Callum Wilkie (STK)
2 Jack Sinclair (STK)
1 Jack Steele (MELB)
1 Caleb Windsor (MELB)

It's a tough game to umpire so I cut them slack but they did make a few howlers.

Thankfully they didn't get too involved and the free counts were not high.

Just had a peek at the Saints next 4 games:

Giants away

Lions at Marvel

Port away

Adelaide away

They could very well be 1-5 or even 0-6 if they don’t get the job done against Port. I’m already seeing quite a lot saints social media comments unhappy with Ross Lyon.

3 hours ago, whatwhat say what said:

they certainly couldn't throw in the required 18-20m - they were even coming 5m in from the boundary and still struggling to make the required distance

goal umpires were no better either; there was a clearly touched ball on the goal line that i could see from my position on the wing that the goal umpire couldn't see when they were standing straddling the line

the problem with being the 'late' games in the weekend is you definitely get the lesser officiators across the board

I’m very interested to see again a match review decision when Langdon marked the ball between goal and point post. They showed one clip only, when the ball had been firmly marked, and it was over the line. But I believe it plain that had we seen a couple of earlier clips it would have shown that initial contact was inside the line

Can someone tell me what Tom Sparrow is bringing to the table? He only had 6 touches on the weekend. For a 'senior' player in our midfield this is not enough output in my opinion

My thoughts are similar. In reality ( well imho ) the imagery only really defined he had the ball behind the post line. But the actual deliberation is about where control is initiated... and that was before tge ball crosses the imaginary line of the back of the posts. This is a logical reasoning.

That ought to have been a mark

Reports from the club are that this has been the best time at the club since the Hub in '21 and it's clear as a fan it's one of the most enjoyable periods we've had in a long time.

My god wasn't that fun? I sat there half way through the game thinking, boy even if we lose, how proud we are of the boys to have a crack, put in the ffort and follow the game plan. They ticked all 3 boxes. To come away with a win against a team hyped up to be finals contenders when we were told to settle for bottom 4 was great.

Hands up to Kingy.
The 3 players he brought in from other clubs are no superstars, but each one did their job and contributed as key players.
Players who were no where last year played big roles in the win. Sharp, Culley, Kolt, Howes all looked like their careers were at a crossroads.
Trelly with the most exciting debut we've seen since the last bloke called Pickett pulled on the jumper.
And my god Van Rooyen just looks like a monster.

No surprise from what I've heard around the club as well when I saw 2/3 from the playing group like posts on social media this morning about Trac being gone either.

Fun times ahead Dees fans

I'm all in on making fun of Ross Lyon, who is not just a weird sook, but gets an extraordinary media run for such a well-documented pervert.

I also think their recruiting strategy is risky at absolute best. More likely, it'll be a disaster. Fair game.

I do find it a bit harsh, however, when Melbourne supporters begrudge Saints fans joy at last year's game. It was one of the worst losses I've ever seen precisely because it was statistically the greatest final quarter comeback ever. Even if you ignore the numbers and ease back a touch on the fact it was all down to Melbourne's incompetence, surely it was one of the best 30 minutes of football you could ask for as a supporter.

No doubt it was a great win by St Kilda and any supporters would have loved their team doing that, however that win is a double-edged sword, it made St Kilda think they are much better team than they actually are, they won a whole lot of dead rubbers at the end of last year, making them think that there are a champion team on the way up, when in fact they're going nowhere, and then you like at there new Recruits, there is nothing special in any of those players, and they are all way overpaid, they are go nowhere.

Interesting to see XL in a couple of CBA's, albeit just the 2

Jai was recruited mid-season 2022 (pick 1) and played a toal of 8 gaames before rupturing his ACL in May 2023.

He averaged 13 disposals in each of those games (all losses).

Jai returned a year later (round 13 2024), playing 3 games (all losses), averaging 9 disposals.

It appears the Eagles 'had seen enough'. Twelve games in 3 seasons tested their patience I guess.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
