Chuck in free dog training and I reckon he will sign.

Lots of Demonland would have subbed him at half time of the 2021 grandfinal for James Jordon, such is their lack of respect for our best forward of the last 5 or 6 years

Hope he lands a supermaxx extension

Really ?? 🤔

He needs a good solid Season

I think he will step up

65 goals….

Love the optimism @3KZ is Football but I'll take 50 from the Fritta.

Agree

The lack of respect always irritates me

106 goals 44 behinds in 2 seasons in 21-22 and has been consistent over his whole career. As a medium fwd they are unbelievable numbers.

Then the horrible inside 50 entries, long bombs and very wide kicks and he doesn’t look so good. If we don’t offer him a very good contract he will smash it at a Hawthorn for example

A keeper

3 years and then perhaps two.

He could easily go until 34/35 with his ability to find space. Just have to give him good supply.

Needs to recover his accuracy (not alone). He was a deadeye if IRC in his earlier years.

Others have already Mentioned it, but I think he will benefit greatly from a fast moving gameplan. It all depends where King wants to play him, deadly accurate when he is "in the zone"

Must sign. A nice 3 year deal gets it done. Has the tools and role to play 3-4 more years at least.

Agree, on a 3-year deal but these seem to be the ones where we extend further to retain, and we know how they generally work for us.
Quality game breaker who, on limited evidence, appears to have found a new energy in 2026. Pay him fair overs for the market on a 3-year deal with a performance trigger for a 4th. If his manager holds us over a barrel for 4+ year commitment, then we need to let him walk.

I look at Jack Gunston who is still performing incredibly well at 34 years of age.

Fritsch is only 29, i wouldn't be surprised if its a 4 year deal. Plenty of good years still left in him.

I’m sorry, I’m unfamiliar with this revision of history.

Seems to be made of straw.

He was excellent in that game.

He needs to do more now that we don’t have bulls in the midfield getting him silver service. Transition off the HB is again - where the game is won and lost - he needs to be better

Thanks GS, but I’d already made the wise decision to not engage in this discussion. I’m currently having a hard time dealing with elements of this forum, namely the bullying, which never fully goes away but at times is too much for me to handle. This is one such time.

Ghostwriter please keep up the great work you do. I always enjoy reading your great contributions you make.

+1

Should’ve won the Norm Smith over the cook.

How the heck do you not take the medal home after kicking 6.

He was largely responsible for our comfortable quarter time lead and then kicked the two goals that saved us from another GF loss (after 88 and 00).

Did they? I don't recall this at all and I was glued to the thread that night.

Taking off our match/season leading goalkicker at half time in a forward line that was functioning like broccoli for a tagger wouldn't have made a lick of sense even to the extreme sceptics here.

I, like the great majority here, love your work Ghostwriter. This site would be diminished without your humorous, insightful and passionate input. The connections you have made are part of the MFC fabric. Stay strong and be yourself!

The one true goalkicker on our list - absolutely must be retained. A three year deal will be plenty.

Quicker ball movement and a more open forward line will see him back to his best this year.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.
