The social aspect of the game is diminishing and it feels more like an interactive video game machine you step into at Timezone when you walk through the gates. Can't even have a conversation at half time because something is blaring or they're doing one of those stupid 'are you paying attention' things.

Yes, but training for what?

All this talk around songs playing after a goal is kicked has missed the main benefit I see - when I go to take a leak at the 22min mark, to beat the rush, and someone kicks a goal while I'm gone - the song is almost like a score update before I get back to my seat.

How would you feel if you’re at a concert watching your favourite band and between songs audio excerpts of footy matches were played?

Speaking of songs after goals I sat at the GWS game and had a slight chuckle after every one of Jake Stringers 5 goals listening to this 😃

The music after goals and general blaring of music these days at the footy annoys me too but I’m closer to 50 than 30 and rapidly approaching grumpy old man status….im sure supporters like me are not the intended demographic for this kind of thing so can’t do a lot about it

Having to hear 30 seconds of music blasted regularly throughout a footy match is no different to having to hear 30 seconds of footy commentary blasted regularly throughout a concert.

The question remains… how would you feel about it?

I absolutely hate all this stuff. The AFL has no faith in its own product, so it tries to jazz it up and just makes it obnoxious.

When someone kicks a goal, that's the time to talk to the person you are with about how good it was. At halftime and quarter time intervals, that's when you talk to the person next to you about how the game is going, what needs to be improved, etc. But no, we have to listen to absolute rubbish being played over the loudspeakers at deafening levels, which makes conversation impossible.

Agree 100%.

Again, I would love the AFL or the MFC to point us to research or empirical data which shows us that the majority of fans enjoy this sort of stuff.

I'm quite confident it doesn't exist.

Instead, there is a pervasive thought that to attract new fans to the sport, this is what is required.

Put aside whether it works, it completely disregards the rest of us. As usual, rusted-on fans are taken for granted while the AFL panders to those who don't care.

Given you're am apparent proof-reader, semanticist and grammarphile, I would think you'd know why decorum is incredibly apt in this instance.

You're example isn't perfectly valid at all. It's nonsensical, lacks meaning and is just facetious. If you think there's no difference between thirty seconds of footy commentary playing at a concert, and a composed musical excerpt (regardless of whether it is to your taste, or not) then there's no point in actually having a discussion on the merits of it.

I know you enjoy being deliberately obtuse (or is that flattering?), so you should expect to not have your comments humoured, my little sheet rack.

You’ve not answered my question, though. I’ll reword it in case you don’t understand it… Would you be ok with footy commentary being blasted regularly throughout a concert? Even ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ will suffice.

I actually disagree on the AFL not having faith in its own product.

If you attend any NFL / NBA game, there is constant noise playing throughout stoppages in the game, and in some cases, during the game. Both of those leagues are among the most profitable sporting leagues in the world, so much so that the AFL is at least a couple of zeros away in terms of valuation. This is the way that modern sport is moving

I would argue that the 30-second song clip doesn't affect the experience of attending the game anyway. There is always music being played during the quarter-time breaks, and that is arguably when the most conversation is had. The music will just blend into the background after a couple of games, unless the supporters really get around a couple of players' songs.
