NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Featured Replies

AFL must be thrilled with the season start.

It's pretty clear their main focus is making inroads into NRL heartland.

So, two games in, two Victorian teams drubbed.

👌

I am very happy with the results so far. The two team who lost are close the top of my dislike teams especially Geelong. May they have a long stay near the bottom.

Would you rather Carlton and Geelong won

Afl agenda is clear the northern clubs success, all games on their home turf…will get harder for the 10 vic clubs to compete for prime time fixtures, so unless if ur playing finals expect Sunday games, equalisation working wonderfully

Not too bad a crowd at this game. Around 10k I'd say. Otherwise known as a sell out in AFL parlance.

Albanese copping the boo’s as he popped up on the big screen. Will he now implement a ‘no boo’ law?

No boo law to maintain social cohesion?

As has every PM in history who bobs up at a sporting event. Maybe find another forum for your partisan politics, comrade?

Oliver instrumental in GWS 3of last 4 goals

Touchy touchy - It was merely an observation. Wanting to ban my right to freedom of speech because you don’t like what I have to say, how very left of you.

Flicking between the footy, grand Prix & the women's test. Great saturday afternoon of sport.

Let’s be honest, there’s only two choices out of those.

hogan - riccardi - gruzewski - brown - stringer - plus cadman and daniels to come in is quite the potent - and tall, with the exception of daniels - forward 50 for gw$

UGH

And we have every right to ask him where this performance was in the last 4 years? I get he had the injury and all but the performance was his most highly rated one for his entire career.

Also begs the question what else was holding him back at the Dees? Was he complacent/ too comfortable?

His kicking was magnitudes improved last night and in dewy conditions too. Again where was this over his entire career?

All of this is caveated with last night opposition being useless but even so, it was a performance that I have not seen from Trac aside from the 39 touches in the GF.

Yawn. Apologies if my observation of Albo being boo’d on the big screen hurt your feelings.

Callaghan, Bedford, Aleer, Cadman, Daniels, Taylor, Kelly and Green out. But you still look at GWS players on the ground and there’s guns everywhere, haha

It’s weird that GWS aren’t a lock for top 4 because they have so many good players. It’s crazy

Chalk and cheese with a team like Carlton who have zero depth.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

  • PREGAME: St. Kilda

With just over two weeks until their opening match of the 2026 AFL Premiership season, the Demons are already well on the path to redemption and have the Saints firmly in their sights ahead of their mid-March clash at the MCG. What do you think the team will look like when they run out on to the G?

  • REPORT: Richmond

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.

  • VOTES: Richmond

Kozzy Pickett was the man of the match last week and has a vote lead over backup ruck Max Heath who didn't play this week and 5 votes over former Saint Jack Steele. Who gets the votes in this weeks shortened match win over the Tigers? Your votes please. 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 & 1.

It's Game Day and the 2026 AFL Premiership season is almost upon us as the Demons take to the field for their final practice match before the first ball is kicked in anger in 16 days time. What are you expecting to see from the Dees today as they take on the Tigers at Mars Stadium in Ballarat?
