Is anyone else almost grateful that happened? We needed a fresh start and honestly I am much more optimistic this year compared to last

Not quite, but I see where you're coming from.

I'm already so sick of the circus sideshow that game has become. Had we fallen over the line and won by a few points no-one would have mentioned that game again. Instead it caused a stupid unnecessary brownlow night discussion, is the punchline to every joke at our expense and the literal poster child of St Kilda's whole membership campaign this year.

I definitely hope that it turns out to be a necessary change. I'm also looking forward to seeing what we have on offer.

When are we announcing our debutants? If we have any ofc

My tips are trelly, Jiath and Steele and hopefully the big moose

Please don’t quote me but from what has happened in previous times I think they’ll announce the extended bench Thursday and full team tomorrow night (Friday) and we should see video from the club of them announcing to the group who’s going to debut. I assume they might announce to the playing group at main training tomorrow or after training with all the players and videos may come out before the full team comes out. That’s what’s happened a few times previously so that’s just what I’m going off. Pretty excited to see who’s debuting for us and hope we get a video of them announcing in front of team, love the reaction from their teammates. I’m with you with steele and really but I think checkers will also be playing his first game for us too.

It's going to be an interesting watch

With a new faster free flowing approach I can see us getting belted at times on turnover, it will be interesting to see how our group responds to, or copes with momentum change. If we start to leak a few will the run and dare disappear and will we revert to a boring slow and potentially safer style

Anyone thinking that a new style of play will click straight away should probably temper expectations

I still don't really rate St Kilda despite their new "boom" recruits, take Wilkie out of their back 6 and they look a bit average imo (although I have always been a big fan of Tarau he is still developing). Higgins and Sharman are the only forwards likely to hurt us so if we can smother them, we are in the game. Max should be able to break even at worst with TDK and head to head I'm backing Kozzy to easily outperform Flanders. NWM well let's just hope he has a sub-par outing and if so, this game is not out of reach

I think this is the team we go with now that Culley is good to go.

B: McDonald, Turner, Petty

HB: Salem, Lever, Lindsay

C: Langford, Steele, Langdon

HF: Sparrow, Van Rooyen, Fritsch

F: K Pickett, Mihocek, Chandler

R: Gawn, Windsor, Rivers

I: Jiath, L Pickett, Tholstrup, Culley, Howes

I'd rather play Heath than Howes, Gives St. Kilda more to think about as the big fella slides forward!

Probably off topic but, is it normal that the MFC app is giving me 16 GA passes for this game?

I have a GA membership, it was a 3 game membership which became 6 game due to the promotion that the club had last year.

I saved my tickets in my phone's wallet but I can see 16 individual tickets 🤷🏻‍♂️😅

The player goal songs are on the website.

let’s just say I hope Ed Langdon never kicks another goal

Sounds like Culley is a lock, but that is injury related.

I’m not sure the likes of Sharp, Laurie and Kolt got enough out of 6 quarters of fairly low quality practice games to cement them in. Especially if others are doing more in match sim drills that have been held routinely for weeks now.

It’s probably just me, but I thought Kolt looked a lot more comfortable in a defensive role, but if he is picked, I’m guessing it would be to rotate in the forward half… but I doubt he will be picked; Culley yes, but Kolt no.

As a slightly more mature dees supporter I am amazed at the recovery time for some broken bones.

Having watched Brisbane win the last 2 flags I’ve no doubt we can kick and mark awhile to slow an opposition’s momentum.

Not if you watched our last game against St Kilda

Are you sure about that cartman?

Nothing to do with your response (although I do prefer Howes for his run and carry), but do you know when you’re quoting others, the quote is appearing three times?

Maybe hairline fractures heal faster? I had a broken arm right at the shoulder (fell out of a tree) and that felt like it took forever to heal; also modern surgery techniques probably accelerate the healing process.

The worst thing about my broken arm though, was that while I was waiting to go for surgery (Children’s Hospital in Melbourne), Rolf Harris came through giving all the kids wobble boards and promoting Tie Me Kangaroo Down Sport!

And as for the ‘wobble boards’ they were just a piece of friggin’ Bernie Board, that he hadn’t even bothered to sign! Was a scumbag then, and right up to the end!

I’m making the assumption that King has made some changes beyond moving on 2 of our worst offenders for bombing it to no one in particular.

Do we really need to play a song after every goal ? 'Country road' and 'Sweet Caroline' gets annoying after a while...but that may just be me as I get older and grumpier...

Love the game but I am finding I grossly dislike most things that get packaged with it…..including songs after every goal

Picking a Winner in this game is extremely difficult.

Yes Melbourne have made massive changes to the whole Club, and in theory that should take time to “bed in”.

But St.Kilda looks so ordinary last week, they are a beatable side

I would start Kossie in the midfield and Langdon forward and then push Langdon to NMW and let Kossie cheat forward.

It's certainly an idea. Kingy on 'record' 🙄 ... 'we'll back our game' ... but he's no bunny... I doubt he'd wait too long if NAZ was out of control... just my opinion 🤷 😉

🤔 ya think !!

☺️

To be honest I am just excited to get back to th “G”, see some familiar faces, hear the Demon Army chanting, crowd cheering, picking up my 4 n 20 and coffee on the way to our seats. Watching the side run out, singing our song and hopefully hearing 15-20 songs being played in the background as we cheer each and every goal the boys kick. There are three of us going on Sunday and it can’t come quick enough.👍💕

Last season's opener I would say most neutrals would have picked GWS, we came so bloody close. I think being the underdogs will suit this group. Wouldn't surprise me if we come out of the blocks and kick the first 2-3.

I've tipped the saints but I'd say the pressure is more on them than it is us.

I hear ya

But we will be getting some Rock the Casbah and Jimmy Barnes so at least it’s better than john denver!

  • NON-MFC: Round 02

The compromised AFL fixture will get another test this week with the first lot of teams getting a bye after only two matches. Despite this Round 2 starts off with two cracking games as the Hawks host the Swans at the G on Thursday Night and then on Friday Night the Crows host the Bulldogs at Adelaide Oval. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • PREVIEW: Fremantle

The dominant storyline coming out of Round One for Sunday’s clash at Optus Stadium centres on the influence of the big men. The spotlight naturally falls on two elite ruckmen who, five years ago, shared the stage in Melbourne’s memorable premiership triumph.

  • THE STATS FILES: St. Kilda

As part of the effort to trim the runtime of the regular podcast, we’ve been looking at which segments could be reshaped without losing what makes them valuable. One segment that naturally came into focus was Binman’s Stats Files. Not because it isn’t important; quite the opposite. It’s become such a substantial and much-loved part of the show that it deserves a little room to breathe.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.

Never in doubt!!! In Steven King’s first game at the helm of the Melbourne Football Club, the Dees outlasted Saints in a wild, momentum-swinging thriller at the MCG, running out 13-point winners.
