Playing a free gig at fed square tgis friday with an up and coming local rock band Public Figures.

It will go off - and super, super packed - starts at 7:30 but I reckon they'll stop letting people in by 6pm such will be the interest (I saw ki g Gizzard lizard there are a few weeks ago and it was super packed - there'll be even more people for this gig)

Did you get there @binman .

So sad it got shutdown, especially for the kids under 18.

Really nice gesture by the band to hand over their performance to a stack of live music venues. 5K on the bar at a stack of venues. Legends.

No, thankfully.

Uhmed and aahed, but buses on my train line was the clincer as I couldn't get there by 6pm, when I figured they would shut it coz it would be full. Proved to be correct.

Shows how popular they are.

Maybe some smart promoter could have them headline a free music bowl show along with some of their contemporaries and up and comers.

Do they have that sort of drawing power?

They are big.

And getting bigger. They just got nominated for a Grammy Award (best rock performance)

I saw them at the Sydney Myer music bowl a few months back, which I think was close to a sell out.

Yeah, look not my thing as I've said but it is time for something big to give live music a real kick.

The Seekers drew around 200k in the 60's to the bowl and Billy Thorpe did similar in the 70's...it's time for another.

Given the bowl capacity is around 15k the overflow was well through the park lands...

20k to 30k would be good...200k is probably stretching it these days but why not shoot high.

Well overdue.

Anyway, just thinking aloud (,allowed)...

Sorry but music at the footy just makes me cringe. Is there any chance we could ban it?

I disgust what Brisbane have, a song per goal. It’s like 20/20 cricket.

I like having the walkout, good way to get the crowd into it early especially for a nervous game.

Bumping this one - my 18 yo daughter was gutted that the gig was cancelled but managed to drown her sorrows on the $35k bar tab the band put on to apologise!

they already sell out the bowl, and are at the point where they could easily do multiple nights there or at rla

If they want to do a free show make it big....open up the bowl. Fed Square is too small if they are already selling out the bowl.

The town needs another 200k show, featuring an Aussie band.

they're very much sons and daughters of the west

not quite

didn't they form in a williamstown sharehouse? i know they're (mostly) country kids at heart, but formed in the west?

or i might have that completely wrong! 😁

either way pretty sure bryce is a massive scrays man, at least judging by his attire (at a gig many many years ago!)

Hells Bells followed by the theme song always worked for me when coming on the ground. Then nothing during the game. (Except the occasional Irish jig music which was a bit of fun after goals).

Can we also get the Irish jig brought back between goals? Really gained traction in the one and only game in which we played it this year. It is organic and much better than piped in pop music.

Def a good opener, Adam took over the vocals quite well, still prefer Chance but it was big boots to fill.

Within my blood would be killer too, but a little to much swears me thinks 😂

Agree! haha and that would be amazing (from a great album) - but to fair I doubt most would understand the lyrics anyway (my wife is always asking me how I understand the growls), so we might get away with it!

I'm fortunate enough to have a wife who loves it as much as me. Means our holidays are usually going to metal festivals in Europe 😀

Wouldn't be surprised if they bring this back for round 1 V St Kilda considering it's close to St Pats Day.

Agreed, the jig was really fun after each goal. The atmosphere was terrific that day V GWS and we did everything but win the game.

I'd assume it would be a once a year thing, not an every home game thing.

That's awesome! I am trying. I get her listening to some of the gateway metal acts I think work well (Mastodon, Gojira, Ghost, Baroness etc). And she puts up with my preferred stylings around the home, as I am training our little ones (2yo and 6yo haha) (I am mostly a black metal/atmo black/some death), so they get all of that plus the stuff I grew up on. They're getting there! My wife is making good progress 🤣

As far as big Aussie acts from this side of 2000 go, it's Amyl and the Sniffers, Parkway Drive and Kid Laroi.

I can't think of too many others that would have that draw power

Edit: And probably Sia

I'd recommend Opeth too.
I grew up in the 80s so I'm everything from Maiden to Slayer onto the Death Grindcore and black, but yeah I love pagan/atmo black like Kampfar,WITTR, Agalloch etc

Sandman, Hells Bells are great walkout tunes that we've used.

Acca Dacca 'Long Way To The Top' could be appropriate for this season.

But in my mind, cutting those tunes off to break into the Grand Old Flag trumpet intro sounds so lame.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

It’s late February. Two teams widely predicted to finish near the foot of the AFL table in 2026 face off against each other in sweltering 30-degree heat deep in outer suburbia in a match simulation with fresh new faces and uneven team numbers. There are no nearby sheep stations on offer; the result promises nothing more than bragging rights for the winner. Nevertheless, the loser appears hopelessly adrift, whereas the other seems to have found its footing after a couple of years of struggle – perhaps a hint at bigger things to come?
