You understand that Humphrey is contracted and Gold Coast don’t want to lose him.

4 clubs can all want him, but so far only one has something that would pry Humphrey out of their cold dead hands.

Unless Collingwood, Hawks or Carlton can magically offer them a Trac alternative, he won’t go anywhere.

Of course he still has to want to come to Melbourne. Because the same is true the other way, GC can’t force him to move to us.

This is basically why Adelaide couldn’t get the Trac deal done. They had no assets. So all nice to say we want a contracted player, but it has to be mutually beneficial for both clubs.

I also think I saw somewhere today that he supported the Dees as a kid? Hopefully he nominates us than we can swap for Tracc

If he was, he’d have gotten a kick out of meeting Jonsey today

hopefully he's not a chris judd type of dees supporter

Great post.

It's worth also noting draft picks are uniquely unappealing to the Suns. they'll get another 2 top 5 prospects from their academy again, after multiple years of guns coming in.

A couple of picks from the Hawks, Blues, Pies mean next to nothing to the Suns beyond points for matching a bid.

They also seem to have prioritised Trac over Curnow

I would take an educated guess and say that Humphrey only leaves the Suns if it's the only way the Suns can get the Trac deal, and even then i think we'd be pushing for Humphrey and a pick as well for Trac.

Picks are appealing for the Suns. They are in the market for Sainters first rounder in a deal for Flanders. Bidding on academy players is much more expensive compared to previous years.

If I'm GC, I'm fighting tooth and nail to keep Humphrey.

Can't see it happening myself, and this site would go into meltdown if the boot were on the other foot and we traded away our equivalent. (Kozzie?)

Did Humphrey train with us before he was drafted?

Similar to how Langford trained with us before he was drafted

I'm pretty sure he did, hence the MFC shorts.

I tried to find this online somewhere but all I could find was "I think that I will be doing a little bit of extra midfield stuff at the end of training because I think the midfield coach (Steven King) likes me in the midfield as well."

No they’re not.

Flanders is contracted and exploring options. He’s surplus to needs so they’ll trade him but likewise Saints have nothing else to give the Suns.

The Suns are in the market for academy points and established players.

And the change to academy bids doesn’t start until next year

That information puts some sauce on the pie. I seriously hope he was a die hard supporter growing up.

Carlton. Idolised Cripps.

What could possibly the Hawks or Pies offer the suns for Humphrey? Are they just throwing their hat in the ring for the sake of it? If the hawks could bring in Merrit and BH, that shows how poorly our list management has been since 2021….

Pick 7 ONLY appeals to the Suns for it's potential to appease Melbourne without them having to give up players.

I firmly believe the Suns would still be very hopeful Flanders would choose us and they wouldn't need to worry about it

Humphreys was a Geelong supporter growing up.

Uh-oh, there’s probably a farm that desperately needs tending to

They want to win a flag NOW tracc can help with that... we set the price

yes we set the price but unless they are mentally challenged it’s a dumb deal, they are still a very young side who just made finals for the first time, imagine someone asked Dee’s to trade out trac after 2018 for Josh Kennedy from swans at the time and pay a pick on top to boot

More like trading for Danger 6 years ago, while also having an expansion club desperately needing to build memberships while lacking star power.

This for a young talent that’s behind a midfield that includes a Brownlow medal winner and the captain.

The only thing blowing this up isn’t the Suns.

Get in his ear Kozzy

I said yesterday that Kosi must be looking around wondering WTF he’s signed up for.

This could get him back off the ledge.

100%!

Here’s hoping he sent a sneaky text to him like he did the Freo boys hey 😉

Agree to disagree, danger was coming off 7 all Australians from the last 8 years and a Brownlow medal winner and was widely considered the best player in the afl with Dustin Martin, trac just like Kennedy at the time is 2 years out from his last all Australian and past his prime. Danger is in a league Trac dreams he was in.

I’ll be happy if we swing it that’s for sure as I rate Humphrys potential just as high as trac at the same stage of his career

If I am GC I’m not fighting tooth and nail I am simply not trading him under any circumstances.

A few people on this thread are forgetting how good Trac is at his best, yes he was coming back from injury this year, but his heart isn’t in it, the GC suns are getting a big time finals player who can tear a game apart “when he wants too”. Humphreys is potential where is Trac has already done it on the big stage. Trac is an absolute A-Grader when he’s invested, unfortunately for us he couldn’t give a funk for us, he turned up, clipped his ticket and did the bare minimum….

How many players get back to there best post 30, even Dangerfield who would be the best case outcome for trac didn’t make another all Australian after 30 and he was coming from a higher peak, yes he was a match winner from time to time still but he was lesser and on the decline. Trac is coming from further back so unless he can pull a Benjamin button we have likely already seen the best from him.

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.

Salem proved to be a valuable contributor as a reliable and solid one-on-one medium-sized defender in what was undoubtedly his most impressive season since the premiership year. He remains a highly capable rebounding option for the Demons as he approaches his 200th game at the club.
