The Tan meeting was deliberate to make the "Noise" with the media kick up a notch.

I'd be surprised if that's accurate, and concerned if it is. Personally I think it would have no influence on BH ultimately being traded, and in my opinion is just not a great way of going about things for a whole host of reasons

Apparently the manager thought it hampered any efforts to get him to Victoria because GC were unaware of it which could have blown back. And thought it seemed like a stunt to appease restless supporters.

This is where i think the trade week fun and games makes everything go really confusing.

BH upsetting his current employer by meeting with multiple prospective employers is a totally pointless exercise unless his current employer has expressed some openness privately to a move being at least possible.

Otherwise this sort of thing just erodes trust with the player, the club and the manager and noone wants that.

I am certain we asked for Bailey Humphrey and the Suns knew about his personal circumstances and gave their blessing for him to meet with us, they're driving a hardline on him, we are on Trac but i honestly believe this is all or mostly optics and posturing.

I wouldn't fly to Melbourne and meet with prospective employers if there was zero chance of the job being possible, just wouldn't waste my time like that.

He was already down to visit family.

Agree.

I'm a huge fan. Have been for a long time.

I wouldn't call him Petracca, because he moves in a different way, but I can see why some would do that. If I were to have a go at a comparison in style, it's much more de Goey. Petracca plays his power game more like a basketballer, whilst Humphrey uses his power more like a meat cleaver. He's not spinning around, he's just hitting the ball at speed, busting people out of the way, grabbing it first time and moving it on.

He's a pretty straightforward footballer, but in the best way. Less razzle dazzle and more 'big boy' football. The thing I like the most about him is his hands. He's so clean with players around him that he only needs one touch. It's just good, simple footy that does really difficult things pretty regularly in a way that doesn't look that difficult. Nightmare forward matchup with his ability overhead and one on one.

I'd do Petracca for Humphrey straight up in a heartbeat. The only thing stopping me adding a future first is the thought that we could be very early last year, but I certainly wouldn't rule the possibility out. He's one of my favourite players in the AFL.

Can confirm his drop punts, spin end over end… and he doesn’t have a 6ft ball drop…

All this is a bit reminiscent of Ryan Griffin being traded to GWS who refused to deal Tom Boyd "under any circumstances"

In today's hun. paper version only, can't find in online version. decent sized article 1/4 page.

Suns rise to fact 'untradeable' player may want to leave

lots of quotes from cac, all suggesting a definite softening re bh and his situation.

I'll try a take a picture and post it shortly

Yep. When Cameron was asked by Twomey a day or two ago whether Humphrey had requested a trade, he didn't say "no". He said "not in so many words".

Trac and Clarry for BH and 7.

Fair enough?

yes, but this article tends to portray much more softening. hope it's a positive sign. have just posted pic.

In the article, Suns list boss Craig Cameron is still saying “we’re not trading Bailey Humphrey”, but the tone is noticeably less absolute than in the past. A few signs point to a softening stance:

  • Acknowledging reality of the market: Cameron admits this isn’t a “normal trade play out” and stresses that clubs need to “accept that’s what the landscape now is,” with players weighing up moves. That shows they’re preparing for the possibility.

  • Shift in language: Earlier, Humphrey was branded “untradeable.” Now Cameron is talking more about supporting him, making him a good footballer, and navigating awkward situations — that’s not the same as a hard “no.”

  • Two-way street message: Cameron even says, “if he comes back, we’ll be fine… if he doesn’t, we’ll work through that.” That’s effectively conceding the Suns will manage a trade outcome if Humphrey decides he wants Melbourne.

So while publicly they’re not officially putting him on the trade table, the Suns do appear to be leaving the door ajar — almost preparing members and fans for the reality that a deal with Melbourne could happen if Humphrey pushes.

BH at the Dees and Stevie G back with the Teddy Bears. What a time to be alive.

Yup. Draft picks alone cannot lift or sustain a club. Have to be able to trade in good players too which we a bereft of.

Humphrey, not draft picks.

This goes both ways

Gold Coast knows that they’ll never have a problem accessing draft talent

But they may NEVER get another opportunity at Trac

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.
