I'm not confident a casual stroll around the tan will be enough to convince Humphrey to push for a trade to us.

The red carpet needs to be rolled out and a serious charm offensive is needed

How about suitcases full of cash?

I can’t imagine we are selling him good vibes and Casey as draw cards.

Stupid money will have to come into it.

Edit: maybe we offered less for Flanders than Saints because we want to go as hard as possible for Humphrey

Mate you only saw a snippet of their walk around the tan.

They boarded the Colonial Tramcar Restaurant around the back and no expense was spared.

Humphrey apparently blown away by the experience of taking in St Kilda road sites will chowing down on reheated Chinese dumplings.

Humphreys is A grade talent yet to reach his peak

Trac is A grade talent who doesn't have many more years left at the top level, if in fact he can ever get back to that level post injury

it'll be trac plus a decent pick for Humphreys i reckon

Proven talent always trumps Potential. We have seen so many players fizzle out that had potential. Trac still has 5-6 years of his career left.

In the end, GCS don’t have to do anything but they need upgrades to their list to compete in September. Proven match winners . Humphries may become that he may not.

The other thing to remember is GCS won’t be able to hold this list together for ever.

I’m usually in the camp of letting unhappy players go, but if we can’t get Humphrey and don’t have another big fish on the hook, I think we need to hold Trac otherwise we’re getting a raw deal and can just about lock in bottom four next year

This is the hard bit. I'm the same. Moreso with Petracca, who has now done this twice in a row. But getting picks in THIS draft or some uninspiring B-grader will be more than deflating.

I'm going to be optimistic once again, against my better judgement, and suggest that the club could not possibly so incompetent that they would publicly declare their willingness for both Petracca and Oliver to seek a trade and not be EXTREMELY confident of getting something really good in return.

The other plausible possibility I see is not incompetence, but simply that King has observed from an opposition coaches' box, done his homework, spoken to the right people, and decided Petracca and Oliver need to go no matter what. He's basically starting again, with just the single, now ageing out-and-out star (Gawn), the young A-grader (Pickett) and - let's be honest - just as many promising kids as all the other clubs. This would fly in the face of the whole talk about him being enthusiastic about the list, but that could easily be something they consider necessary PR. I would hope that if this is the option, we're looking at several picks in the first round and that Jason Taylor is confident of landing a couple of beauties, in spite of all the talk that this draft is a shocker.

I guess the third possibility is that the list is FAR better than I, and many others, think, and that King feels he can bring a modern edge to the gameplan and have the team, minus troublesome champions, competing again very soon.

Humphrey in his first press conference in a red and blue polo: "They had me at 'HELLOOOOO'!"*

* If anyone gets this extremely deep cut, I'll be chuffed.

There is no player in the AFL with the surname Humphreys.

True. But there are several with the surname Humprhey's, and I think that's where there may be some confusion.

Yeah. But it’s all about “show me the money”

We’re pushing Oliver out for what is surely a mix of culture, game plan, contract concerns. There’s no expectation of replacing him with anything.

Tracc seemed to bail somewhat unexpectedly. You can’t keep a guy who wants to leave 2 years in a row if you get a fair offer.

If we can’t replace with quality that will suck but what’s the alternative?

We can keep Trac. It’s simple. You tell him the Suns had the choice of you of Humphrey. They didn’t choose you.

Worth trying right up until the trade deadline but if there’s no movement from the suns and a fair package of picks on the table I’d settle for the picks.

I prefer…

Hello there…

If we get Humphrey it will likely be a 10 year deal on crazy money.

Just giving you all some time to loose your [censored] over this reality

We either want him or not

He is 3 times the player Flanders is imo. potential wise at least

I was reading we offered 3 1st rounders for essondon's pick to get him at the time before the suns. We obviously really rated him.

Doesn’t mean he rates us though dd and that could be the problem.

With no Flanders and potentially no Hump we could have a sizeable amount of egg on our face. Hope that’s not the way it turns out but time will tell.

It’s well within the realm of possibility. But if Clarry goes and Trac stays I’d expect Trac to have a better year at MFC that 2025.

He polled Brownlow votes in 10 games this year. But somehow some think he had a bum year. Extraordinary.

This absolutely. And we need to leverage that in our dealings. He also polled coaches votes in 10 games. That's a very good season in anyone's language. The media are doing their best to water down our bargaining position but the numbers don't back it up at all. Still one of the highest rated score involvement players in the competition.

And coming off a year/preseason where he was building up his tank after his injuries last year. I have no doubt Petracca will return to his best next season.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.

Salem proved to be a valuable contributor as a reliable and solid one-on-one medium-sized defender in what was undoubtedly his most impressive season since the premiership year. He remains a highly capable rebounding option for the Demons as he approaches his 200th game at the club.
