Oliie Sestan appeared on the cusp of senior selection midway through his third year at the club when a hamstring strain and then a facial injury sidelined him from round ten until the eve of the VFL finals, leaving him with insufficient time to impress the club’s list managers enough to warrant further consideration for a place on the playing list for next year.

He can count himself a little unlucky to have been delisted given his late season injuries, but ultimately he has been on the list three years and hasn't progressed sufficiently.

We need to get better at turning over the list and not just hoping that something clicks for players in their fourth or fifth years.

I followed Ollie from his drafting and have to say I was extremely disappointed that he did not have his contract renewed. He was always a speculative pick and a natural footballer. As he didn't come through the normal pathway, he needed his first 2 seasons to get AFL fit. The change in his body shape was a credit to how hard he trained. At the start of the 2025 season, the coaching staff moved him down back where his kicking skills started to shine. Despite being on the list for 3 years, he has, in reality, spent less than a season developing as a backman.

He was an emergency for the first game and desperately close to selection when he pinged a hammy and had an unfortunate accident at training when he was primed to return. He was pretty good in the first final, and against Frankston, he was actually tagged, such was their respect for his influence.

I thought he deserved another contract, given that he was still being developed as a back. Unlike some others, he can hit targets and handle the ball as a one-touch player. I hope he gets offers elsewhere

Sure gonna miss seeing him around the traps. Often he seemed on the precipice of a seniors debut but various circumstances denied him the chance. He was patient though. He knew his time would come; such a shame it never did.

Love and big hugs to my Italian/Macedonian son Sesto xxx

Strange decision given the way the modern game is played.

Sometimes you just have to trust Management.

Our VFL development plan has not produced many contributors. I think we slavishly mimic the senior team and worry too much about winning than development. At least the years of boundary line play are receding.

Who knows… Sesto might do a Deaks; in 2023 we delisted Deakyn Smith and now he’s captaining the Casey side.

Whatever Sesto ends up doing, I know he’ll do it well. He sets a high standard for himself and he has a great attitude. He deserves success in whatever life has in store for him.

I was very surprised to see him delisted and curious what the footy dept didn't see in him; speed? endurance? attitude? With elite foot skills at all distances, strong overhead and good footy IQ I felt he had significantly more to offer than some still on the list. Along with Mentha and Kentfield he formed 3 uncapped players I was very excited about
