Scouting Report 30/10/2025

Latrelle Pickett

Latrelle Pickett

Forward

An overage prospect who is a cousin of Melbourne’s Kysaiah, this South Australian kicks goals for fun.

Club Glenelg

State SA

Height 182cm

DOB 28/12/05

Speed / X Factor / Scoreboard Impact / Mobility

An overage prospect, this elusive goal sneak was originally draft eligible in 2023. He had been part of Port Adelaide’s Next Generation Academy, but featured in only three under-18 games for Norwood in his draft year. Most of that season was spent playing local football for Tumby Bay in the Great Flinders Football League. Pickett continued at local footy level in 2024, kicking 28 goals from 15 games for Tumby Bay, before shifting back to the SANFL to join Glenelg this season where he caught the eyes of AFL recruiters. He showed some similar traits to his cousin – Melbourne star Kysaiah Pickett – with his speed, agility, leap and smarts in the forward half. Pickett also proved to be a consistent goalkicker. He kicked three majors in a standout U18 v U20 South Australian game early in the year and bagged four goals from 16 disposals in an eye-catching senior SANFL debut in round 19. That was one of three senior games for the year, with Pickett playing 18 matches for Glenelg’s reserves side for a return of 32 goals. He booted four majors in the reserves Grand Final in September, showing off his dancing feet and elite side step and candy-selling abilities. Pickett was invited to the state draft combine.

2025 SANFL 66 ranking points, 10 disposals, 1.7 marks, 1.7 clearances, 2.3 inside-50s, 1.7 tackles, 4.3 score involvements, 1.7 goals, 1.3 score assists (3 games)"

Is there a world where - if we manage to trade for an additional first round pick to take Pickett - we select him AND Dovaston?

A position of weakness for us would immediately be significantly stronger if we could bring both in

Edited by demoncat

Just pick him at 8 then. Or trade down a few picks and pick up a future pick of decent value

The romance is hard to resist and as #demoncat says, he and Dovaston could immediately change our forward mix. The BUT is, is he the best available at what is a pretty high pick, albeit in a weak draft?

If we are keen, I'd trade Pick 8 for West Coast's Pick 13 and a future 2nd round pick

Hawks have 10, the article says they’re interested if we can believe what’s written.

I couldn't care less about the romance. If he was Pickett's Brother I couldn't care less.

Is he any good is the only thing that should matter.

Where's the fun in that tho?

But if he is good and Kuz of Koz, then - Lattrele, come on down!

If we rate him at pick 7 or 8 then what the phantom drafts say is irrelevant.

the idea of another pickett in the Melbourne team is pretty exciting, admittedly i know very little about him though

As an asides, the was SoS (Son of Serge), we could have Kok

Except Kousin is spelt with a C.

The romance and positional appropriateness of Latrelle Sumner-Pickett, combined with my liking of Thredgold, keeps bringing me back to live pick trade shenanigans. Lots of scenarios where we downgrade either or both picks and gain useful 2026 draft position as the premium.

The top players I get excited about would need to have a surprise slide even to reach 7 and 8, while on the other hand there seems to be a bulge in the middle of the draft. The first round is allegedly disappointing compared to other first rounds, but the second round might be one of the better second rounds, if you follow my meaning.

There might not be a Langford, but there could be a Bowey, Rivers and Fritsch.

Jason Taylor and Tim Lamb won't be doing Cinderella dress ups first night of the National Draft. Although some may think they'd be wicked as the wicked step sisters.

Watchers at Casey Demons would of course recall Uncle Roy George's debut. Afterwards the hyperbole was almost palpable on the DL boards, quote "I am very excited to hear that Roy George has been granted permission to train with us over the pre season for a Cat B spot." Alas no fairy tale ending, he ended his season at the Fitzroy Stars.

Is Latrelle Sumner-Pickett ready for the AFL Ball? His video highlights are seductive but will Prince Charming fit the missing footy boot?

Ended his season at Port Melbourne

If we took him with one of our two top ten picks, we'd need to be very very sure he had the work ethic and discipline to transition to AFL requirements. He's a mature age player who went undrafted the previous two drafts. He was on port's NGA, so they got a good look at him and didn't even bother taking him as a freebie rookie. I know some mature late, but I doubt an elite talent would float by and not get drafted for years.

If he's there at our pick 37, sure you'd take the risk. Picks 7 & 8 need to be guaranteed 200+ game players, and hopefully stars. I don't see that with Latrelle, and there are other more proven small forwards who have stronger athletic attributes. If his surname wasn't Pickett, I doubt he'd be getting any attention.

Pickett has maybe already made up his mind who he wants to play with.....

Have to trust JT here. I think we have a real need for a small forward. Have to decide who is the best small forward Dovaston or Sumner - Pickett. This aint Mills and Boon. No time for romance. Then come up with a plan to make it happen.

Zero chance we use 7 or 8, his highlights show flashes of kozzie-esque movement but not too much else.

Imo it's not between him and Dovaston - Dovaston an early first and Sumner Pickett a more speculative late first/early second.

Dovaston cake Latrelle cherry on top.

Kysiah was a pick that we reached for. I am sure it took our ‘grade’ in the draft from the experts down to a ‘B’.

Pretty glad we had such poor judgment at the time tho

Exactly. Would we have taken Billy Stretch, Kynan Brown and Taj Woewodin had they not been F/S?

How did that work out?

What pick did we get Jack Viney for again?

Carlton's pick 11 for 37 & GCS' F1 if we're desperate to jump the line for him

Pick 26, which was after Port Adelaide bid pick 7 on him, as he was highly rated by many clubs in that draft.

This information is pretty freely available, but I hope that helps.

A month ago this draft was so bad we traded out of it, now it's on our doorstep we're selling the future to have more pics in it...

We have to make up our minds 😂
