Apparently just announced on SEN

Can one delist an contracted player?

Or is this more a delist in practical terms by saying no guarantee on games and look elsewhere

  • Demonland changed the title to Steven May Told to Find New Home?

thanks for 2021 Maysie but i welcome this news!! best of luck

Jake Levers must be feeling the pressure too.

Petty - Disco the new defensive duo.

Who'll be the third member?

I can understand it. we probably want to get games into Turner, Adams, Derksen and Petty down back and May still a good player could elevate a team like the Bulldogs chasing a flag

sometimes these things aren't bad, it's a win-win for all involved

One of the best Demons players I’ve ever seen. 2020-2022 May was an absolute colossus and I don’t think 2021 happens without him.

But the time has come, and that’s not even factoring in the off field stuff.

I was in favour of it at the time but signing him up for 2026 before a game was played aged like milk.

I think once Goody was sacked, May was in trouble.

Not sure if it’s true but wouldn’t surprise me.

So not delisted. Didn’t think we could do that.

TM’s story is accurate. We don’t want anything in return really. This story started earlier this week.

Ghosty you threw me a curve ball when you said delisted.

Agree with this.

Unfortunately the "unofficial" announcement didn't draw any takers a few weeks back but with the right salary subsidy we might get some interest.

Bulldogs would be mad not to take him at the right price.

Amazing how quickly he lost touch

Good post. Just loved watching him play during the period you mentioned. Loved his passion.

Sorry. I wasn’t thinking straight. I know footy’s a cutthroat industry/business but I’m shocked and a little sad

May was a pillar for us, and nothing got past.

Now he’s sloppy, slow, and has little impact.

He’s gone from a guaranteed spoil, or intercept and now It’s usually an opposition mark.

He’s appears to possibly be a problem for the club as well, with issues with on field (Gawn issue (albeit downplayed)) as well as off field.

I wish him well, he will always be one of my favorites, but time to go.

Howes

One of my favourite players. Always played with heart😢

No May no flag. He was enormous for us for many many years. He’s reaching the end now, and if he can get himself a longer deal elsewhere to secure a better future for his partner and child, then I wish him all the very best.

Loved everything he brought to the club, including his unapologetic attitude to success.

Tough, but correct decision.

Pleasing to see it looks like we're starting to make some big decisions regarding our list. There may (ha!) and should be more to follow, I'd say.

Will miss May, agree with posters above that our flag does not happen without him.

Probably won't miss the fist fights, occasional on-field melt downs (I love his passion, but the Gawn dress-down etc, no) and the soundbites he gave other teams (shoulda smoked them, etc. - even though I, too, believe we should have smoked them) but I will miss his immense presence down back. This year wasn't his best, marred by injury, inconsistence, lack of speed (odd how quick this happened), but I hope he sees some more good footy, but not against us, of course.

Big opportunity for Disco/Petty/Lever and others to step up and form a new brick wall.

A player can be delisted if under contract. The club pays out the contract and takes it up in the current year sal cap.

It is what we did with Hunter.

I think we go and get Wade Derksen from GWS. He steps straight in !!!

He was the best defender in the league from 2021 to 2023, the immovable force.

One of the great gorilla defenders of modern times.

Premiership defender and tough as nails.

He served us well but even man's time comes in this caper, safe travels Maysie.

Hunter retired. Very different.

I don’t think May will be delisted. He would have suitors who for the right price will take him and his salary on. It wouldn’t be a massive salary anyway given he extended for just one year.

Hunter 'retired' vs 'delisted' is semantics to manage the optics and save face for Hunter.

I wasn't suggesting May would be delisted; I was simply answering the general question about whether a player can be delisted nd how the contract $ are treated.

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 2 Jacob van Rooyen

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
