With today's result, Casey gets next week off. Unless it cancels eligibility, there is no reason for a Casey boy not to play in the seniors next Friday indeed, it may be good prep for the following week. The extra week means Sestan should be right for the VFL elimination final.

And let’s face it, bad things always happen we play Collingwood.

Generally deliberately too.

Sparrow and Sharp get games

SMH

I don't think its completely fair to pile on Sharp, we all know his capabilities and limitations. That being said, giving him a go over Laurie or Mentha Jnr is puzzling.

You'd love to see us make this one a bit more fun by picking Kentfield and Adams, but I can't really see that happening.

I think this game will be a send off for some of the older and more disgruntled players.

Who will improve by 10% in the off season to be at the same level they were at this season?

I do think Melksham will go around again, though not sure about TMac (unfortunately).

I do think we will lose one of May or Lever, and one of Trac or Clarry.

I'd hate to see it but it'd be an amazing spectacle if Trac leaves the game by walking into the Collingwood rooms.

Was T Mac injured or tactically subbed out?

I think tactical. Hopefully not his last game. Deserves much better than to be subbed out to end his career.

Interesting given May, Turner and Howes were all at sea and T Mac has been our most dependable defender this year.

We looked woefully slow behind the ball, which I think is why Tmac was taken off.

He would have a better match up this week in Membrey, and I imagine May will play on McStay.

Sparrow had 23 disposals at 80% efficiency, plus 4 tackles and jumped at the ball to bring it to ground vs bigger opponents a few times.
Hasn't had a great year but he was good v Hawks.

If we're selecting on form...

Outs

Sharp, May

In

Tholstrup, Kentfield

Petty can be moved back in case of emergency.

The margin will be interesting in this game.

Hopefully we can keep things respectable and deny the Pies a top 4 gig.

Very rough calculations but if the Pies beat us by 60, then the Suns would have to beat Port and Essendon by an approx combined 120 points.

If they beat us by 40, then the Suns would have to beat Port and Essendon by an approx combined 100 points.

Fair to say if we can keep it within 20, the Pies supporters won't be overly happy.

The line in this match is 19.5 so if we make our line we can claim victory!

GO DEES 🔴🔵🔴🔵

Their key forwards are horribly out of form. Single digit touches for nearly all of them for 3 weeks now. 15, 15 and 16 scoring shots as a team.

Meanwhile, ours are actually looking better. Either we play them back into form (so Melbourne) but i think if we win our fair share of midfield ball we are a huge chance to snatch this.

given the vfl finals its either out tmac/howes in kentfield push petty back or out howes in fullarton for mine i know they arent super tall the pies but u have to change something and howes clearly isnt an afl standard defender

Using the Goody play book I would only expect changes based on injury. Would like to see May and Kentfield play forward................ Cannot see it happened. With Buckley as the next coach, May and Petracca will play forward.

No Bobby Hill helps our chances I think. His speed troubles us. If somehow Howe doesn't get up I'd almost be confident of a win.

If this team wants to win back it’s supporter base. It has one option and one option only.

Come out next week and get F’ing physical, they can’t afford to get suspended. Get in their face and make them bleeed!!!!!!

Yeh i agree with this. There is absolutely nothing to take from this game aside from thumping the shiite outta this mob.

If they come out and play like pussys two weeks in a row and AGAIN against the Pies you can forget any resurrection in 2026 and i'd very much doubt we'd see Buckley coming anywhere near us.

Not that that's a certainty or a must (some might be pleased with that outcome) but i can't see him bothering if the players show they couldn't give a flying [censored] about the club two weeks running.

Do you seriously think Buckley would base such an important decision on the result of one game, or even two?

And do you seriously think losing to Collingwood - or as you put it, playing like pusseys [sic] - means writing off 2026?

Death, taxes and Melbourne making Dan McStay play like the second coming of Wayne Carey.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
