Does anyone know who we were aiming to draft when we traded up and got Tholstrop?

At the moment the only thing that suggests that we weren't going to get Tholstrop is that we did a late dash to his home in W.A which suggests we got word that our target wouldn't be available.

2 reasons.

1) we never wanted to use that pick. It was the highest pick we could get and the trade was Windsor, Kolt, and Langford picks for pick 1 (Reid). Im not sure in hindsight it was worth it, but we don’t end up with pick 5(?) in the Langford year if we had Reid. We had too many close games he would have had an influence on.

2) Taylor believed (and so did everyone else) the pool became very, very shallow after pick 15. And that’s borne out to be true somewhat bar a few notable exceptions. Remembering we turned down the offer to trade down from the Windsor pick as Adelaide wanted Curtain. Leake was also in our sights at the Kolt pick if he was off the board. Not sure why we didn’t have Wilson up there.

I'm surprised so many people think Oliver can get back to the player he was. I was hopeful at the start of the year but we're now two and a half years since seeing him play at a consistently high level. His best this year was just okay and I tend to think that's the player he is now.

I hope King can get him back but I'm not holding my breath.

I'm the same. I think the best we can hope for is about the same but with much less nervous nowhere handballing.

If we look at his last couple of games this season there was a marked improvement.

A clear preseason and there's no reason Clarrie can't get back to his best.

It was always going to be a couple of year project...

Clarry's last few games, from about Round 20 were getting back to his extraction standard and his ability to wrack up possessions and tackles, which is not surprisingly linked with fitness.

If he has another uninterrupted pre season, Clarry will be back IMO. Bookmark it.

SOS is cluelessly delusional, but we already knew that.

The chicken man Colonel Sanders?

Breaking news!
both the MFC and Christian Pettruca have anounced pettruca will agree to be traded to half the competition, if not this year then the next and the next year until the end of his contract!

List on Zero Hanger states that Darcy Gardiner has been delisted.

Unsure if this is true or not, because everything else I found says he’s contracted for 2026.

If he is delisted, wouldn’t be a bad look in for another tall swingman.

Agree with you both. Just raising what the site says. I am not sure it’s right but if so, a decent option.

Zero Hanger is called Zero Hanger for a reason… Zero credibility

No one does until it comes true in fairness.

Everyone speculating.

Do they keep their plane in a Zero Hangar?

Is it possible they do indeed drive a Mitsubishi?

The Demon stalwart surpassed the number of his father's appearances for the club towards the end of the season. As he approaches his thirties, his pace is inevitably slowing, and he is likely to explore alternative opportunities beyond the team's midfield.

“Disco” took his time (four seasons) but the mid-season draftee has been a shining light of Melbourne's campaign, improving to become a versatile option at either end of the ground. He has great marking skills which allows him to play as a marking target up forward or an intercepting defender down back.

The skipper delivered another outstanding season, leading the team from the front, participating in every game, and earning club champion honours, while also securing an equal record eighth All-Australian blazer as a ruckman.  Max Gawn is arguably the greatest exponent of ruck skills in the history of the game; an exceptional leader who has guided the club to a premiership, through the challenging times that followed, and now into the next phase of its storied history.

It was a frustrating season for the former number 13 draft selection, who failed to build momentum in his second campaign; Tholstrup played only nine games, having been omitted twice and substituted out three times. However, he demonstrated promising signs in the midfield at Casey towards the end of the season, and big things are anticipated from him in the coming years.
