Colin,

I love watching you play, its pure magic - however I am a little concerned about who you associate yourself with. OK so the incident few years back with your girlfriend wasnt a big deal but wasnt exactly great publicity either, but now it appears you were with Didak before the whole "incident". Alll I want to say is perhaps choose your friends more wisely, it does not bode well for you to be associated with trouble like him. Also perhaps choose better venues other than Bar 20 and Spearmint Rhino because they dont attract the highest calibre of person. I just dont want to see you placed in a situation similar to Didak or any other troublesome footballer you are bigger and better than that. Our club has traditionally not been marred with off field controversey as many other clubs have lets try and keep it that way hey?

Loyally yours

Geez, you sound like his mum. Let him do whatever he wants as long as he plays good footy. Whilst I don't want Sylvia to go down Cousins' path. Ben showed that its possible to play footy at the elite level even if you do everything wrong off the field.

Sylvia played a good game tonight. end of story

Posted

No its not end of story. There are things more important than footy, something Collingwood has failed to recognise this week, they would rather win than act responsibly. I dont care if Sylvia is great on-field if off-field he is being a total idiot, he has a responsibility to the club and I think he needs to be careful

Just to point out that Sylvia actually didn't do anything wrong...

It was the mid-season break, he was out at the same club but had nothing to do with the Didak situation.

Were you there? Do you even know if he was drunk, or how late he went home?

That club is a filthy establishment, but who are we to tell our players where to go? As long as they are smart enough not to get lifts from strangers, punch bouncers, hit women and so on, they can do what they like. The key is moderation.

They might get paid enough to be role models, but they don't get paid enough to be prisoners of the club.

A lot of these boys are our age... would you agree to sit at home every weekend and not do anything on the off chance that you'll get into trouble? I know I wouldn't!

And I tell you something else, I've seen a lot of players out and about, and from all of my experiences, Melbourne players are always well behaved, in stark contrast to many other clubs.

Did I actually say he did anything wrong? All I said was he needs to be careful, hanging around with Didak isnt obviously a great idea. And for the record no I was not there I do not frequent strip clubs. A football career is a very short one, I do not see why for a few years they cant behave.

They can go out but I think there is a time and a place, strip joints do not attract the best people so maybe its best to steer clear of them?

so he hasnt got priors for that?

There seems to be a grwoing swell of criticism for the way Collingwood have handled this situation......

Collingwood farce all about winning

Collingwood 'a laughing stock'

Shame on Magpies and AFL

All basically say that the Pies have handled this situation unbelievably poorly, but my personal favourite is Tony Shaw having a [censored] :P !!!

Well, given that some [censored] dobbed him in, after they had an argument, as opposed to his actual girlfriend, who I believe he is still with, I'd take that accusation with a grain of salt.

What he does in his personal life is his business, as long as it doesn't affect his performance or the club's reputation.

Did I actually say he did anything wrong? All I said was he needs to be careful, hanging around with Didak isnt obviously a great idea.

Should Judd stop hanging out with his best mates Kerr and Cousins?

I'm not at all advocating players being idiots, staying out till all hours of the night and drinking themselves stupid.

But I don't think Sylvia should be discussed in regards to this situation. We don't even know if he was hanging out with Didak, or if they just happened to be at the same place at the same time.

It doesn't thrill me to know that anyone goes to those establishments, but if they are not harming anyone, we have no right to criticise them.

Sylvia had a great game last night and that is what I care about. The fact that he might not be a saint is of little consequence.

Amen to that Jaded.....

But it should be kept in mind that reputations are lost and can be traded away fairly quickly.

Especially in today's day and age of constant media surveillance where they have a tendency to turn something completely innocent into a perceived criminal act.

Of course we may have to exclude Alan Didak in this case ;) !!!

And I am failing to see any connection between Didak and Sylvia, other than they went to the same place on separate occasions..... is that the extent of it?

If you read my post I said he should be careful, and now it appears all Collingwood players have been banned from strip clubs.

And yes Judd should stay away from trouble makers like Kerr and Cousins to maintain his reputation as been a top athlete on and off the field.

Todays Age Jaded:

"Ealier, Didak along with fellow players Dale Thomas & Ryan Lonie had met Demon Colin Sylvia and a handful of other Melbourne players at King Streets Bar 20. Sylvia & Didak then went next door to Spearmint Rhino. Sylvia left soon after while Didak stayed for another drink - bough for him by Hudson."

He needs to be careful - I dont want our club brought down to Collingwood or West Coast or St Kilda level

Ahh, of course it's the boobs that make them do wrong ;) :D !!!

Don't think they need to go to strip clubs to see those.

Plenty of desperate girls who'd do anything to hook up with a footballer

BTW, Sylvia going next door and having a drink and leaving shows he is smart enough to know the limitations.

Judd is still a superstar and a decent human being despite hanging out with dodgy guys like Kerr. To rob him of his friendships would be unfair, when it clearly doesn't affect him. The same goes for Sylvia.

I'm more worried that he hangs out with bigs girls like Dale Thomas. Ugh!

NO Tess I haven't - why so touchy, do you work there?

Yeah, the pay is great.

But seriously if you haven't been there you cant comment.

Yep, read it this morning. As I said all along, he had nothing to do with the story.

But hey, in the future, we shouldn't let facts get in our way of pointing the finger at our own players!

We should defend them to the death when they stuff up on the field, but if they go out and have a beer at a strip joint, we should hang them.

You have to be joking - anyone with half a brain knows what these clubs are like - have you ever read a newspaper?

Best you phone Mr Gardiner and tell him to retract the Mother's Day comment as he hasn't been there either.

whilst waiting for my capuccino at the coffee shop this morning was reading on the front page of the age that alan was with his good mate colin sylvia that night

Posted

from what i just heard on nova news colin fell asleep then got kicked out of the club, i cant be bothered reading what paul has to say dont trust him anymore

Posted

ha, means nothing. i've got a mate who can fall asleep anywhere, and has in a club. doesn't mean he took anything or broke any rules.

besides, i'd be tired too if i played a game like his qb!

Posted

This is my favourite line re: Colin "Fatigued from a hard game of football on June 11 and a harder night of drinking, he slowly descended into alcohol-induced unconsciousness" oh and that he says colin is actually luckier than Alan in the strat of his rant.

And then eludes that a heap of players were out and about, yet can't name anyone else? "After drinking at several venues, Melbourne and Collingwood stayers, including Didak and Sylvia."

Im not going to read the entire article bc it goes for FIVE pages on teh web and im sick of the sight of it.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
