Attempted to ruin Jordan Clark’s career by refusing to play him and didn’t get on with the other coaches.

The next year Scott implemented a team first policy among his assistants and won the flag.

He’s a local footy coach with a champion players resume.

Scarlett was running the match committee was he?

Scarlett is well known around footy circles to be quite 'difficult' to deal with, hence why hes no longer in the afl system. Have spoken to a few past players about this that played with him, one coached by him. id steer clear.

King would have a fair idea whos good and whos not from the geelong boys anyway so will let this play out :)

Yep, this is a fair summation.

I don’t know why Scott didn’t overrule him but ultimately Scarlett and Clark both left Geelong.

Clark down plays the riff but confirms he was moved to the midfield when he’s clearly a natural attacking half back.

“My personal relationship with Matthew Scarlett, there’s no animosity between us two. We can easily have a conversation and get a long really well,” he told SEN Afternoons.

“Like I’ve said many times, he’s a really good coach and was a really good player at a very successful club.

“He runs a pretty tight ship back there and I had to go away and work on a few things in my game. He was one that was really honest with me at times.

“In the end, I moved up into the midfield and played a different role. I couldn’t quite break into the midfield at that time.

Chaplin was an excellent defence coach and I would love for us to hang on to him. Selwyn is a bit underrated IMO - his record in avoiding injuries is outstanding. If we could get Burgo back, great, but otherwise I would stick with him.

Don't know about Chunk. I was NOT impressed at first but the Jeff White analysis of our midfield work in a game (can't remember which) made me rethink a bit.

The big question is: who will be the forward coach? Hawkins maybe?

I like the Hawkins idea but unfortunately, his interests post football lie elsewhere. Tom's now working for/with an agricultural company (started this year) and has his own hobby farm near Geelong. So I can't see him coming back to a full-time coaching role anytime soon. He's got his little foxtel commentary gig on Saturdays as well.

Maybe we could get him in as a goal-kicking consultant at least perhaps.

Of course he does.

Might be exactly the type of person a few of our blokes need then.

I understand the Dees inadvertently and unintentionally played a role.

Does anyone know if Luke Breust will be moving into coaching?

Does he live in Geelong? Driving to Casey would just about be a day trip.

Not if you time it perfectly to jump on the queenscliff ferry? Then it’s only half a day

No worries mate!

Great interview with Ooze on Garry and Tim's show today on podcast. He seems a ripper. Anyway he did confirm that Chappy has a year to run on his contract and will be staying at MFC.

Then if we are chasing Scarlett then he remains fwd coach, which isn't ideal.

I am not sure how true the Scarlett info is.

He has been out of the game for a while, and he has some detractors.

IMO King will look to poach assistants who are currently working elsewhere, be it other AFL clubs, VFL or other league levels

Now mayzie is gone, scarlet doesn't come in.

Have King and Cam Bruce crossed paths coaching-wise?

Saw Cam on post game for Brissie.

A candidate?

Guerra said on Radio this morning - we will move forward with our “TWO” assistant coaches.

Assuming 1 is definitely leaving…

We’ve heard Richmond are into Chaplin

Has anything been announced?

Jones and Chaplin is 2. Bassett and Radford gone already.

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
