I don't mind the club sounding out potentials, but in recent times clubs courting coaches (Lyon, Clarkson) hasn't led to success. I don't believe Buckley is the man, but if he is then he should go through the same process as an assistant at another club who is hungry, if only to prove that he wants the job and has the new ideas needed - it's easy to point out the flaws from the outside, 2/3rd of this forum can see what's going wrong with the team, doesn't mean he can fix them.

If the club runs a proper process and Bucks is the choice, then I'll be much more confident in him than I am now. I've still yet to see the logic as to why we need a veteran coach though, in recent years the path to success has been through former assistants with new ideas.

Someone further up the chain here made the comment there's a few posters regretting wanting Goodwin gone with some of the alternatives being offered, even if we end up with Buckley I'm not going to be one of those. My impression of the team's direction was we'd continue to bob around between 9th and 14th for a few years before retirements had the wheels come off, bleeding supporters as we did so. I'd rather take the risk of blowing it up quickly and starting again than just watch us slowly decline.

I made this precise observation a few months ago. Also wrote an article in support of this position that was published on The Roar. In the end, the man's grip on reality was tenuous at best. The board no doubt could see this as well. A tragedy of near Shakespearean proportions.

Agree with your observations about On the Couch @At the break of Gawn. For me, the most interesting part of JIGJAM's stream of consciousness were his musings on the TPP. I recon this is the biggest tripwire to landing the best candidate quite frankly.

Know we've got some stars tided up on long term contracts, but is it possible that we've actually been able to shift stuff around a bit TPP wise, particularly with that bit of relief we were given for Gus (i.e. did it allow us to bring any back ended payments forward? etc)

To me he always came across as that parent who tries to be their kids friend.

We still have Brayshaw's salary or part thereof for the next 2-3 years?

Oliver's contract is apparently backended. Not sure on Petracca. Viney signed for another 3 years.

I'm sure overall our cap is ok but it feels like we don't have much wriggle room without freeing up one of those contracts especially with Brayshaw's salary to consider.

This is about, and only about , taking the club from A to B. Who honestly gives a flying fig about sating the media or disgruntled fans jumping up and down.

The Process..... the process need only be whatever it takes to get a successful outcome. That might be X, it might be Y . The process might also more than likely change on the fly as ppl/ outcomes/interests develop.

I would like a decent new coach for 26 and whatever. I would like to see a new look FD. I would like to see us play successful footy . I would really like to attend a winning Big Dance at OUR rightful home before I topple off.

I really couldn't be much bothered caring about things that in the end just don't matter.

There are no hard and fast rules to this 'process' . Just outcomes. Id like a good one. Not fussed how we get it. In reality it's irrelevant.

Yeah, I know it’s not going to happen because said he wasn’t interested and I guess they are looking for someone new ( which I can totally understand) but if he was asked and said yes I wouldn’t be disappointed.

I would much prefer him to Buckley.

This is just my interpretation of what Buckley is referring to and based on what is in the public domain. Note, it doesn't take into account rounding and smoothing effects - which, to my knowledge, are not in the public domain @Rodney (Balls) Grinter.

• In 2027 three people will consume around 20 percent of the TPP. One of those is used as a tagger, can't hit a target and hasn't finished inside the top 10 in the B&F in the last two years. One may not fully recover from the psychological effects of a horrendous injury (and cannot hit a target) And the third one is medically retired.

• It will also be a year when Turner, the Spreadsheet and Langford will required very significant pay increases.

• Of course some larger salaried players come out of the TPP by then as well - most notably, May.

Buckley already knows this is a potential impediment to him taking the job. Puts the drive to Sassafras in the shade as an issue.

Our contracts seem well managed.

If it hasn’t happened already, I expect one call to AFL HQ from the CEO will make Gus’ payments quietly disappear from the cap.

It bothered me when Bucks said that because it lacked mature intellect. You’d never hear Roos speak that way, he can always explain his thinking in a way that is honest and insightful.

Initially I was anti-Bucks, then swapped to all for Bucks… now I’m wavering again.

Any coach worth their salt would back themselves to get Trac and Clarry flying. Then they have the gift that is Kosi.

Gus will be handled no doubt.

And that 2027 handover timing is perfect, as you pointed out. With the cap increasing year on year.

It’s a great list and greatest historic club.

Training facilities are an issue, though there’s potentially a solution to present here too.

Not so sure on Bucks now, interested who becomes the next hot name discussed.

There is literally no guarantee that Tassie will even happen at this stage and then the concessions might make it a West Coast or a Brisbane Bears

Its been reported on DL that we have TPP space.

If so we can bring forward some of the long term contract payments into this year which iirc ends Oct 31. eg Kozzie, Max, Oliver, Petracca etc.

If willing it could be done in a way to shave a year or two off Viney's contract. Same money, fewer years.
