They would be my first two out the door to be honest

the only assistant id keep is chaplin and id put him in the backline again

Longmire was cagey in the interview over whether he would coach again or even whether he would contemplate taking a phone call from the Dees but this screenshot says different.

Screenshot 2025-08-07 at 10-18-45 Mark Gottlieb on X If John Longmire doesn’t return to coaching he’s got a long and lucrative career ahead of him teaching politicians and celebrities to dodge a question. This is an absolute[...].png

Haha no way these guys haven't been contacted yet by the club, very good deflection though and ultimately I think they just are respecting Goody because its all so fresh. Very professional.

You mean the rebuild that led to a GF and Prelim? Yes he never won a flag but got bloody close, coached in more finals appearances and never finished lower than 12th. We played in a Prelim and then finishing 17th. And backed up a flag with four straight losses at the MCG (never been done before) and two likely 14th placed finishes.

On the flip side you have Goodwin who says we have a great culture and close to a flag in what would be a contract year. He was delusional.

Some folks like kicking when you're down and they like kicking fanatically when you're further down.

Coming from someone who was willing to go to GWS back in the day, that actually concerns me.

If this opinion forms part of the general perception around the league in regards to our list, culture, home base and so on then we should probably be taking notice and getting our heads out of our rear ends.

Longmire has been asked again if he'd been keen on the job and he wouldn't comment one way or the other.

He did however stamp his foot twice. Make of that what you will.

I think others have said the same but Im starting to wonder if it’ll be Longmire as head of football operations and Buckley as coach.

Might be the two blokes who are aware that within the Media scrum there needs to be accountability when someone and something is getting kicked in the teeth ad infinitum.

I guess he'll prefer for the MFC to fold then? If our current list is not appealing enough for either a young coach with dare to show his value to the competition, or an experienced coach taking the challenge to make this club a contender again I am not sure why even try?

His point was not about the current list. His point really bears on the mismanagement of our club by the Board. I wonder how many of DL people have tried to drive to Casey in the morning and back again in the evening or midday from anywhere towards Melbourne? I regularly drive that route to further destinations and it can sometimes take 2.5 hours just from the airport to Cranbourne.

And then at the sports ground it is always windy and pretty unappealing.

If a person had a choice then a club that insisted (for various reasons) on going out to that wilderness several times a week would not be chosen.

MFC Board should immediately abandon Casey and move its operations back to the City while they work out a better outcome.

First World problems.

They get paid close to a million bucks. Driving down the Monash every morning, I would do that without blinking if I am paid that much.

Surely Longmire has to be the one. Sydney’s culture has been the envy of the comp for 20 years and he comes from the Paul Roos mould. Longmire will definitely bring some Sydney coaches/ex players into the fold, which has to be a benefit to us. We need a very experienced coach, especially with our CEO having not much footy experience .

Get Horse!!!

what i find interesting is that neither longmire or goodwin apparently really have a convivial relationship with roos anymore

again, proper process please - but as roos said, if we are not 'sounding out' horse then we are derelict in our duties

Who is Davis Jarra?

I like to think of him as the missing Shepmates triplet, but otherwise he's a tiktoker who has decent analysis on the game. I rate his opinions.

I can’t talk for the Sydney situation but Goodwin was not the choice of Roos. He was brought in by Jackson.

A couple of my mates are Pies supporters and they are in agreeance that if Melbourne sign Buckley, then the Dees will become their second team. They love him.

I used to love to hate Figjam for many a long year. Ironically I got to dislike him a lot less when he stopped coaching and admitted that he made many mistakes during his journey.

if he did end up coaching the Dees my biggest issue by an absolute mile would be facing up to a couple of my mates that are Collingwood supporters. For many a long year all they heard me was to bag out on him.

Obviously I would have to become a turncoat if Buckley got the gig.

He has no dog in the fight and what he says is true. Facilities and other issues are a big factor. That said it didn't hold Bucks back.

Watching 360 I suspect both Horse and Simpson were cagey is because Buckley has effectively declared and they wouldn't want to be seen to be in the race and then unsuccessful.

My comment stands. Who the f cares , I certainly don't, what he thinks.

Nothing he says is particularly new... or dare I say overly relevant. I say that as we've dealt with our lack of resources for a long long while. We get it. It's far from desirable. Will it stop us fielding a team ?

What matters to me more is who is coaching ( and that goes to all of the coaches )and what it is they are wanting the team to play. A [censored] polished is still a [censored], conversely an unpolished diamond is still a diamond.

Do we want a better home ? Of course. Will that happen tomorrow ? No. So we get on with things.

If it's not Davis it's some other head. So be it, matters not.

Well, not interesting considering Roosy pretty much lives in Hawaii now days.....

Does he really have to have a relationship with either Goodwin or Horse?

I highly recommend watching this. King's analysis of the downfall, the list management decisions and then the discussions on next coach is very good.

Sydney culture IMO is not what it was under Roos and Horse early days. They used to give you an audit every time you played them and that started to change once they signed Franklin. The Bloods culture started to fade a little and over time they moved away from the hard run, hard at the contest team and played a brand from 2018/19 onwards which like the Cats for a long period was good for home and away but going to be tested in finals.

That’s not to say he wouldn’t be a success with us, without Kennedy he didn’t have the inside contested beast he would have with us to compliment the way he had the Swans moving the footy in transition

Bonus points for professionalism. We sure do need plenty of it.

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, we’ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.
