I think this game was the catalyst for change. From my perspective a big positive from an otherwise dreadful afternoon

Do we really need to do this? Talk about flogging a dead horse. Goody is no longer our coach. Maybe those who still wanna continue to bag him should join a Sydney forum and go nuts on that.

PS: genuine question for @At Least I Saw a Flag

Why did you elect to post a comment in this thread that wasn’t exclusively pertaining to this thread? Everyone knows MFCSS can and is mentioned in pretty much every thread.

Made it blatantly clear that we were not, as Goodwin said, "so close".

And nor were there "really positive signs in the last 4 minutes" as Goodwin said.

Meh.

We win this game and it's basically a non story. I still would have been [censored] as a supporter. Giving up a 40 odd point lead felt to win by a goal or so would have felt like a loss anyway.

Still think we are closer to a flag than St Kilda. Last time I stated that was at the end of the 2020 season.

And this is the thing. I remember at the time people asking if we really would have been happy to hang onto the win or even the draw considering the drop off was the real problem. Of course I agree, it would have been a garbage win but I do think in this particular case scraping through for the win would have been infinitly better than the result we got. The difference between a poor last quarter win and now being the butt of every joke imaginable is wide. People were talking about this for weeks after, the moment a team trailing by 40 points in the last quarter kicked a few goals this game got a mention and will continue to into next season. Avoiding defeat was very much preferable and a rare time where you couldn't take use what-about-ery or we didnt deserve to win-ery to make yourself feel better. We needed to hang on at all costs.

As quickly as I felt Max's goal after the siren (after our own comeback) lept us out of mediocreville, this game brought us back there.

If we hang on to win this, the Wanganeen-Milera debacle on Browlow night isnt even a thing either. At least it got him his pay day.

Goodness. This rings painfully true to me.

Yes, very true, Betters

We were just meandering along and then that loss hastened change

2 of the changes (losing Trac & Ollie) will take time to completely come to terms with, but time may well confirm that it was for the best. But hey, 3 first round picks in return might return 3 top players

Goodwin had run his race but he'll forever be a premiership coach and for some of us, we thought that 13th flag may have never come

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
