Luker probably needs a full pre season before a run in the AFL. The pneumonia really knocked him around and he would not have strength and endurance he would have if he got through a full preseason including gym.

The way Luker is playing is a credit to him.

We have seen how injuries have effected some senior players this season. McVee and Lever have not been able to recapture their best .

Exactly the opposite.

Keep him the hell away from Selwyn - I’m convinced he doesn’t know what the [censored] he’s doing.

It’s a plot to ruin us by putting him here.

The only ones playing any good are the ones that didn’t do a preseason with him.

Kentfield probably deserves a debut game. I think he will compete and give us more than Jeffo as a key forward.

Very close to calling Luker the next big thing. Had the MFCGS malady like most of the Casey forwards. 4 behinds up to half time. 2 terrific pack marks and goals in the last qt. An exciting prospect wonder if the FD are paying attention?

Luker could have had 6 goals had he kicked straight, most were more than gettable. I have no idea what his conditioning is like post his illness but I wouldn't be opposed to him having a crack in the seniors after another game or two like that.

Unfortunately I think Jeff is a 2nd/3rd tall - think Gunston type. Problem is we don’t have a first or second tall.

OLD SAYINGS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons returned to their home ground which was once a graveyard for opposing teams but they managed to gift the four points on offer to Coburg with yet another of their trademark displays of inaccuracy in front of goals and some undisciplined football that earned the displeasure of the umpires late in the game.

The home team was welcomed by a small crowd at Casey Fields and looked right at home as it dominated the first three quarters and led for all bar the last five minutes of the game. In the end, they came away with nothing, despite winning everywhere but on the scoreboard and the free kick count.

The Demons dominated in the ruck through Tom Campbell who finished with a massive 40 hit outs and his understudy Will Verrall was next with 10. They gave their team a great run at the football in the early proceedings and virtually whitewashed Coburg in the first half.

I appreciate the old saying about “would have, could have etc” but the half time lead should have been 50 points and not 20 so badly did they butcher some of their shots on goal. Their only reliable player in front of goals was Mitch Hardie who kicked three in the first half and had four of the team’s 5 goals 16 at the final break.

There’s another saying that “bad kicking is bad football” and that applied to the remaining 22 in the side. It all came home to roost in the third term when the visitors found their feet and started to reel in a 27 point deficit from about ten minutes into the second half. The Lions were insipid up to that point in the game but the Demons had opened the door for them and, as often happens, they rallied to boot four unanswered goals and by the final break were only three points in arrears.

The final quarter saw a seesaw battle in which the Demons discovered their kicking boots for four goals with two coming from strong play from young key forward Luker Kentfield who had been one of the culprits in the first half with four behinds. When he clunked a mark and converted to give Casey a 9 point lead at the 25 minute mark the game appeared safe but the gods were smiling on the Lions who took the advantage of the umpiring and showed why an accurate shot on goal which is worth six times a lesser effort can be of supreme importance in our game.

Riley Bonner and the goal kicking Hardie were again impressive for the Demons and veteran defender Tom McDonald joined another veteran in Campbell among his team’s best. Apart from Kentfield, there was little for Demon fans to enthuse about in such a disappointing result.

Hold up…. We have a forward… that can convert… BRING HIM UP

2 times out of 6 🙂

I jest, positive signs from Luker. It would be good to see him play for Melbourne before the end of the season but also appreciate the argument to leave him be until 2026

DiscoStu17, I think that JvR is our No.2 and Petty will hold down No.1 until we find a suitable replacement, so Jeffo could be developed as our No.3 to let him find his feet and add the extra height in the forward line. Who knows Kentfield may be well and truly ready in 2026 to add to the mix. Has Jed Adam’s ever played forward? Just thinking out loud but Verrall needs to be developed as a fwd/ruck as well. Interesting six months ahead I believe.

Good to see Spargo maintaining his stellar scoring record from the past two years, even at the lower level. Only one tackle as well. But we know Goodwin loves him, so no doubt he'll be back this week.

You’re right. But without petty yesterday, Jeff was #1 while JVR was in the centre.

There are plenty of options if they want to try any.

For the more regular Casey watchers, I have a question.

How much game time is Verrall actually getting? Is the amount of time TC is spending in the ruck actually limiting Verrall’s involvement and therefore his progression? From reports, Verrall played well when TC was injured. As he is the future, shouldn’t we be doing more to develop his game?

Agree NC why isn’t he playing in the fwd line and using his 199cm to mark or bring the ball to ground, feels like he is being wasted.

I think it was around 40 minutes last week, and probably about the same this week.

I will say that I have not seen the replay as yet, as I was at the AFL game.

Someone told me today that Verrall and Fullarton were doing extra runs around Casey to make up for lack of minutes – the same as they needed to do last week after the game against Gold Coast.

I would guess that the FD has requested that TC was given an intense loading as he missed the previous game against Essendon – and then of course we all had a bye. It looks like he is their second banana in case Gawn gets injured. The only problem being that he is also 34, and has had 2x Soft tissue injuries this year so far. I wouldn’t be confident on him not doing another one in an intense AFL game.

Not sure why both players could not have been on the field at the same time a bit more often? Especially with JVR and Jeff in the firsts.

It's embarrassing at any number of Demonlanders appear to be better list managers than our paid list managers.

The fact that Laurie, Verrall, Henderson & Brown is obvious to everyone except the MFC list managers.

PS - And Jeffo is less likely to succeed than Weid was.

depends. were they making the calls when these guys were recruited ? I do agree on Jeffo, after 3 years he is way off it.

The worrying thing about Casey in recent weeks is that they have failed miserably in implementing the gameplan.

You can see that they are instructed to handball at risk but it's constantly coming unstuck. Low kicks are the norm but they're falling short with players not being able to make clean pick ups.

I liken the team to a bulldozer rather than a rapier. It is the latter which the modern game demands.

We do need a smaller quicker player in the forward area.

Anyway we watch in hope. A few weeks back I thought I saw green shoots so who knows

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • AFLW REPORT: St. Kilda

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
