I feel for him also and still feel he can make it, but clear he needs to go back to Casey for a bit.

Fingers crossed he can get a full pre-season, same for Windsor.

I really feel for the kid. Clearly very popular amongst the group and the coaches clearly think highly of him.

It's just not working out for him at the moment.

Unless he miraculously turns things around next year or in 2027, his selection will go down as one of the most baffling I've seen. I still don't see what his strengths are.

We’re entitled to say he needs more time.

We’re also entitled to say it doesn’t exactly look promising right now.

Let’s hope a big pre-season and more maturity/experience spark him.

Right now, I think we simply have to give his spot to someone else.

I couldn’t work out why Goody didn’t have him as the sub instead of Lindsay in the first place.

Just a really poor effort. Terrible. I don't care whether I go to training every day or not I can still judge. He fluked his spot on a list and he knows he is not up to it or anywhere near it. The players know too.

I think it’s obvious that they're giving the kid every chance to hopefully get going in the seniors. Seeing if there’s any green shoots… seeing what he’s got or, seeing if he’s even up to it? & yes it’s because he was high pick (opportunities).

Until now, it hasn’t yet worked out. So, he’ll be dropped.

No biggie, but just make sure to come back start of preseason ready to give it a red hot go!

We shouldn’t be gifting any young player game time. Particularly players who haven’t shown the ability to play a role successfully, like Kolt. I’ve been against that policy for a looooooooong time.

He needs experience as a mid. Pure and simple. That must happen at Casey.

As for his overall prospects, he lacks awareness, composure and isn’t clean with his gathering or disposing of the ball. As someone who did a little scouting ~ 10 years ago, the above traits were considered crucial and not something that could be improved post draft.

That concerns me.

I feel a lot more for Bailey Laurie, has done the hard yards at Casey, performing consistently well, is still young & overlooked for years

Will become a solid AFL player at another club next year

But hey Tholstrup has a good mullet & personality

But is not quick, plus his skills are so so. He was a midsized half forward who we got in the first round ??? I hope he starts to work hard to repay the faith shown in him.

Logan Morris might have been the right choice at that pick imv. (Refer 2023 draft thread)

He might still make it, but people have huge blinkers on. ANB took time, but he was an exception, a late draft pick and clearly the kind of character the club wanted around pretty early. As was his mate Stretch, as Oliver mentioned in his 200th game interview, but he just couldn't put it together on field.

Kolt has yet to show more than a handful of glimpses in 19 games, and that's the occasional goal or good kick inside 50 rather than anything groundbreaking. He has, for example, yet to deliver anything more exceptional than what Brown did on debut. It is hard to see how he keeps getting senior games, even in our current rudderless phase of the season. Jefferson also doesn't look ready, but he's a year older and dominates at Casey.

He plays on the HFF but rarely kicks goals. He is not a particularly good mark. He isn't very quick. He covers ground ok but looks exhausted by the time he gets separation. He has laid a total of 58 tackles in his 19 games, which puts him at just over 3 a game. Tackling is the one thing you can do when nothing else is going to plan.

I desperately hope the injury is the reason for his lack of output, but I can't help but feel this is a bit delusional. Right now, if you're comparing him to another one of our draft picks, its the Toump. And we really couldn't afford to mess this pick up.

100% agree on Laurie.

Even though he's contracted with us for 2026, I imagine he'll be seeking opportunities elsewhere.

If you think Not, it shows you how bad we are actually going.

People having a crack at Windsor, Kolt and McVee need to realise they’ve all had very interrupted preseasons, which has hampered their development. It takes a while to develop an AFL level body for most players. There are exceptions to the rule, but look at Bowey. It’s taken him 60 games to consistently be at the level, after such a good start. He looked awful at times last year - because injuries disrupted his development.

Have a crack at the senior players if you want to aim at anyone. They are producing 50% of the output they are being paid for, but leave the kids alone. It takes time, and they are often being asked to do more because the guys earning the big money can’t get the job done.

He's not adjusting to the speed - and that's okay....but he shouldn't stay in the team.

Needs time at Casey, he was coming from a long way back compared to fellow draftees of his year.

What I don't understand is why he's never been given a role as a mid at Casey. It'll be hard... he'll be gassed....but with his size and power (those asking for a trait - it's this), he just needs to be a mid long term.

They thought he had huge scope to improve - hard for anyone to improve as a half forward that might see the ball 10 times if you're lucky in the world's worst forward line.

Last night they asked him to play the sparrow role....Tom was given a long time to figure that out. It's not exactly a starring role anyway...one of our predicaments is Sparrow now isn't capable of being even a B grade mid. I actually think Kolt has more attributes than Sparrow and is capable of better clearance work - but he's very raw. I haven't given up on him and can occasionally see what the recruiters saw.

He'll need time, practise, fitness, and more importantly plenty of exposure to the ball.

We made this mistake with Sparrow who was deprived midfield time in order to be a tackling half forward....sticking to Oliver, Viney, Petracca in the midfield.

It's run its race. I want to see us start to blood our next midfield, including Kolt and Langford in there.

Honestly our 'big 3' helped win a flag but have a lot to answer for. Brayshaw came close to winning a Brownlow and we couldn't even fit him in there.

Kolt needs to be told unless we get a load of injuries, he is staying in the VFL for the rest of the year and he needs to meet targets for a chance at Round 1 next year.
