I think potting Maysie is just buying into the media pile-on. You can't do much when there's no pressure being applied further up the field and the oppo are firing darts to your opponent. Giving away a bit of height today as well. Not that I rate Ben King that much.

It should have been May dropped instead of Lever. Has gotten absolutely smashed by his opponents the last few games and has just seemed to have lost it. If the selection team had some sense, TMac would be in next week in his place,

As it turns out he will have a holiday for about 2 weeks for that hit!

On one hand, you can make a case that Goody and his match committee are not up to it.

The decision to go super small backfired spectacularly when Petty went off along with our third tall defender - Howes.

The decision to take Viney out of the middle in the first quarter and play him forward meant we were completely mauled by Rowell and Miller.

The lack of spirit early coming off a bye was a worry, did players abuse their licence during their break?

Then on the other hand you have to give Goody plaudits for:

Sending Viney back into the middle which saw us return to winning the majority of the clearances that Rowell didn't get.

Instructing the players to chip and go sideways whenever they could, before breaking through the middle to given Melky and Fritter a chance to lead into space. The argument though is whether our smarts with the ball came about because it dawned on the players that with only Melky and Jeff as tall targets, it was a mega dumb ball to bomb it long.

Sending Rivers down back, which meant we had all the hard nuts in the middle and fewer [censored]-ups.

Let's see how Goody and the match committee go next week.

Delusional

I donโ€™t blame Goodwin for all of our problems but we simply canโ€™t be heaping any praise on that performance

It was unacceptable - full stop

Itโ€™s this kind of delusion thatโ€™s killing this team and will stop us making the changes we need this off season

I thought he looked and sounded defeated. I think the reality bus has hit and he knows his foot is on the banana skin.

IMO it would be good to leave Jeffo in the side for the rest of the year. Then we'll have an answer about his ability at AFL level once and for all. He was very, very quiet today, at half time I wasn't sure he was playing ๐Ÿ˜ณ

The Ball didn't get down to him in the first quarter but started to work into the game, who would have expected him to Ruck?? Not him surely, Yes very quiet but was burnt twice by Selfish Fritsch and once by Melky and Sharp! Agree needs to be played next weeks for a number of reasons, but given our injuries and likely suspensions to May and Viney today I can see at least 4 to 5 changes.

Been over since the opening 5 games. Just has.

But it's not all doom and gloom. Is a lovely sunny winters day up here in Qld. Apparently all but an hour away some clown mob in red and blue played at playing football. Alas...no chocolates.

The Dees wouldnโ€™t come to the party but I had one , well a very nice lunch at Ciao Papi on the Brissy River with family and friends. See....you can enjoy football. Just don't watch us !!

Insensitive some might protest. Well not nearly as much as the contempt shown by Melbourne to it's supporters. I truly salute those that ventured down the road. I do.

You'll excuse me , I have a dinner to get ready for.

The players got their just desserts ... I've yet to ponder mine. Maybe Tiramasu or a moorish Creme Brulee ...mmmmm

It's a Grand ol' .. It's a Gฬถrฬถaฬถnฬถdฬถ oฬถlฬถdฬถ team... just, barely..

Anyone recommend the replay ?

Yes, I know, youโ€™re entitled to your opinion. But name-calling is disrespectful and unproductive and childish. And thatโ€™s MY opinionโ€ฆ to which of course Iโ€™m entitled.

PS: your unbridled joy at the loss is nauseating. Could you at least afford true fans the decency of trying to rein it in, at the very least, could you look like youโ€™re trying to rein it in?

So was the Thug from False teeth lands. We all know how this will turn out!

The first quarter was unacceptable; we all accept that. But it's not like this hasn't happened before, 6 goals down at quarter time. The concern is that both Howes & petty will be in concussion protocol, Petty for the 2nd time this year. I hope they throw the book at Fiorini that is precisely the bump they are trying to take out of the game.

I cannot stand Fritch not tackling, and in the 1st quarter, Noble, his opponent, got leather poisoning. I don't know where Langdon was today, but the time he dropped his heady and fumbled was not his finest moment. Leaving it to Langford, Kolt and Lindsay to contest is a big ask of three 19 year 19-year-olds.

The remainder of the season is time to try every youngster on the list. Leave Jeffo up forward, he wasn't the worst today. Give Verral a go so Max has a recognised ruckman as his backup. We need more run-and-gun from halfback. You only have to look at GCS halfbacks and how many score involvements they have. The gaiun meters with their run and kick. Sadly from what I saw today there was no one at casey busting the door down to get a game.

Itโ€™s been a terrible year, all over already and the players know it.

All we can do is get games into the youngsters and try and develop some sort of forward system consistency.

Looking to next year. Our only hope is for strong pre seasons for Trac and clarry to try and get back to near their best , for the continued development of the young guys and somehow find a decent forward in the off season.

Langdon did tag anderson and thought he done a good job.

The incident when dropped his head, thought rivers should of been talking behind, but gave him crickets !!!

I feel like you could have said the exact same thing going into last off season ๐Ÿคฃ

Bigger change is now needed in my opinion

I'd leave Jeffo in for next week. He competes aerially and follows up at ground level at an ok level for a skinny 3rd year player. Having him as a solo key forward with limited rotations did him no favours. Pair him with JvR next week at the bare minimum.

I'm more concerned about Sparrow having one touch to half time, Langdon turning to water with nearly any disposal, the deterioration of May and the numerous injury concerns we copped throughout the game. Not to mention the overall skill level of our senior players.

It's a shame none of our Casey players really stood up except for Billings.

I also think we need to seriously look at if our main training session 2 days from gameday is contributing to our poor performance in any way. If I'm not mistaken we always used to have it 3 days out and I believe most other clubs have it 3 days out also.

Did you watch Lever and McDonald play for Casey today?

You would be forgiven for feeling like a total stupid moron for thinking that this team would use the bye to their advantage and then come out with fire in this game. For a few years running they come out of it looking like they're at the beach.

As bad a first quarter as you'll see. Only Melbourne could let the other side be inaccurate for a change and not take any advantage of it whatsoever. 22.6 inside 50s for GC was the limpest effort seen for a while and that's saying something.

We finally bring some effort in the 2nd but aren't able to make enough in-roads because you know, when you give the other side a 6 goal head start, it apparently puts you on the back foot. We did have some unfortunate moments, the Howes and Petty concussions were very unlucky and hurt our rotations for the rest of the game. Plenty of MRO work this week and I'm actually sick of seeing these guys get into fights off the ball. Remember when we were system first and nothing else? Remember when it was too hard to fly the flag for a team-mate who got polaxed because were were guarding grass or holding width or whatever fanciful term you want to use? Those days are completely gone now and we are a very, very undisciplined team. People will point to umpiring and have at it because I'm entirely sick of having that discussion with you. The unsaid truth is that we actually give a lot of free kicks away, whether they be dicey or correct. Tackles that slip a little high, carelessly sitting on an opposition player's back when they're on the ground. We do it to ourselves, we don't create our own luck and we like to play the game against the grain.

The game plan is in flux. We do not look like we know what we're doing and it is impossible as fans to see what we're trying to achieve.

Big decisions needed at the end of the year, need to get bold at the trade table, possibly move on a great servant and improve our list. People were rightfully overjoyed when Kozzie signed but the list is no longer in a position to rest on its laurels. There is very good talent but there are holes, big holes.

The coaching staff needs a revamp, some good experienced minds to ocme in. Not first year coaches fresh out of the game looking to learn their chops.

If the rest of the season is this carp week after the week then its going to be very very hard watching.

I did watch most of the Casey game. It wasnโ€™t the best game for either of them, however they competed more and did better than May

Congrats to him but shame that Melksham kicked 5 goals. He's not the future

He is the near future and his natural forward instincts and ball control should be celebrated rather than dismissed to the rubbish bin, like so many have done to Melksham over his career!

The stock answer given when a team improves considerably after a disastrous start.

I have to respond- 100 % correct.

Gameplan is cooked, players look uninterested or not up to it, forwards constantly looking for cheap kicks out the back, midfielders playing undisciplined footy and giving away dumb frees, team selection is abominable etc etc

This club needs a circuit breaker, not sure how many games I'll attend for the rest of the year but unless the kids ask to go I won't be bothering. Waste of time.

See ya!

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... itโ€™s time to discuss this weekโ€™s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliverโ€™s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line โ€ฆ Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
