If he does want out we would be crazy not to go for him... even though he has had kicking issues he would make us so much more dangerous down forward and allow JVR and Jeffo to take the 2nd/3rd key talls.

We could have McKay, JVR and Jeffo as key talls next year.

Move Petty back with Turner and then the third spot up for grabs between May, Lever and Adams.

We had a huge crack at him a couple of seasons ago. Met with some players. They thought he was a chance to come across then.

I saw some people doubting him in another trade thread and couldn’t believe it - he is the prototype forward we’ve been crying out for years

I don’t think we’d have the cap space to bring him in (as it currently stands) but we’d be crazy not to go after him

He’s a great mark, a strong forward presence and an option as a second ruck - plus he’d offer great protection to our younger forwards in JVR and Jefferson as they develop

Would give up a future first and more for him

I wouldn't go anywhere near McKay.

Too expensive and tall forwards are new rucks circa the mid 2010s - overated in terms of impact.

It's all about how the ball is delivered to forwards and inside 50 now as opposed to dominant tall forwards being difference makers.

Which of course Is not to say gun key forwards are not important but they are now icing not the cake.

And I'd argue that small to medium forwards are now more important. Ah Chee, Long, Elliot, McCluggage, are the type of players I'm thinking of.

If it were me I'd target Bergman as our real need is utility types who have elite foot skills.

Bergman is exactly what we need - an elite kick who can play hb and wing and can run and carry. Would free up Windsor to go back to the wing and Langford could go into the middle, where he is sure to end up anyway. He can also play forward if need be.

I'm not sure of his contract status but I'd also try and get the Long from the Suns if at all possible. A gun who kicks straight and is a nightmare matchup as he can play small and tall.

Long could get squeezed out with all the big names gcs are trying to sign

harry mckay in our forward line to not only mark but get it to ground

kozzy and mckay with vanrooyen and jeffo and 2nd and 3rd talls seems like a contenders forward line especially with fritsch in form

I agree regarding smalls/mediums being more impactful and ball use being king - but I think that’s contingent on at least having competent tall forwards who can compete aerially and lead to space

Unfortunately we don’t have many at the moment who can do this and it’s making our smalls/mediums less impactful and making it even harder for us to enter inside 50

It’s no surpirse that Fritsch had his best season when we had BBB and TMac providing a forward presence for him to work from

Our mids also had better targets to kick to even if they weren’t hitting them lace out on the chest

You only need to look at Brisbane this year to see they’re missing Daniher’s presence (although Logan Morris is now starting to compensate for that)

So while I agree you don’t need a gun key forward, you definitely need competent ones, and McKay may be one of the only options available to us this year

I say get him if we’re a chance

Could not agree more

See Collingwood... adequate but no stars in their ruck or fowards.

It's all about delivery

100% agree. Bergman has to be the priority IMO. If he is out of contract (RFA ?) then we have to get him on the cheap.

Bottom line is we need to overhaul the midfield and get some balance in there with ball-use. We have an over reliance on the contest (same issue with the Blues atm) and teams are countering this with ball movement and back half transition.

petty for McKay seems fair

I want to hold on to Petty.

Given the ages and injuries of May, Lever and Tmac we will need him.

But definitely only as a defender. It's not his fault he's failed up fwd. He's is an athletic defender and not strong enough to play fwd.

Goodys insistence in this has cost us many games and while he doesn't have a great deal of options it has still been a huge error on his part to keep playing him in a position he is simply lost in. It's is baffling how stubborn Goody can be. To have your primary tall fwd kick around 0.7 goals per game is bizarre and a stat that reveals why we have lost so many games. But Goody keeps him there for two years now.

Poor Petty struggles to take contested marks inside our fwd line. If he is to play fwd then it should be as close to the middle of the ground as possible but even then he struggles. I feel sorry for Petty and would not blame him for wanting out.

Bergman is our target I hope

I hope so.

And if we get him, whenever he plays well I can post this:

Whilst Bergman would make us a better team, I like the intent of this thread around a KPF, given we seem to win inside 50 count every bloody week but can't win a game.

Having somebody who can clunk a mark and take his 30 seconds (and hopefully kick a goal, god knows we need a few of those) allows our forward line to setup when we inevitably kick a point.

I think we have enough medium sized players across the park to win a game. Just need a big banana up front. Have done for the last 4 years.

You'd be doubly delighted if we picked up Zac Guthrie as well. Woody come to Melbourne, do ya reckon?

McKay would be a great get but for the life of me I cannot see how we could get it done. Bergman sounds like a no brainer but our success in securing trades has fallen away over recent times, not feeling confident with our ability to trade to our advantage. Like a number of others in this site I would Prefer to see JT given a lot more opportunity to draft using more 2nd and 3rd picks.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
