casey win 7.15.57 to 7.6.48

all single goalscorers for the dees - laurie, hardie, ireland, mentha, kentfield, billings, cross

billings bog for mine; that goal he kicked was incredible

the votes from my spot on the other side of town...

6: billings
5: campbell
4: laurie
3: hardie
2: woewodin
1: bonner

you can see why bonner didn't make it at afl level; he gets a heap of the ball and really doesn't use it well enough for a player who is predominantly on the outside of the contest

I think I've officially watched the worse game of footy ever.

You clearly didn't watch the first 89 minutes of the Subway Socceroos vs Japan last night

The last 5 minutes was great though

Billings will go down in history as one of those classic “too good for VFL but not good enough for AFL” players.

Laurie probably the same.

couldn't agree more

same situation as mitchell white, riley bonner

That was never say die old fashioned football in less than ideal conditions. Thoroughly enjoyed it. A gritty win to Casey.

Yes.

Do we add Woe into that mix as well or too early? Such a terrible shot at goal. Showed something in the clinches in and under though. Was he asked to play that role tonight or is it just starting to click?

Thought Laurie, Woe & Billings were the diff in that second half.

I turned it off about the 60 minute mark.

One of the most boring matches i'd witnessed at that (world cup qualifying) level.

At least that’s one win over the filth for the weekend Go Dee’s

The goal he always needed to kick…

Big game at the ‘G in his dreams

Was it Woey2.0 that was next to the filth player that got a freebie on our forward flank. A quick jab in the guts was it. They replayed it once but I had no sound

Yes.... was a love tap pushing off his opponent. The opponent milked it big time. Should've been play on. The umps love the filth.

It was a hard watch but even harder to look away, I thought that they would overrun us but Casey are very gritty and appear to have found their belief, even with so many outs, they never dropped their heads, what happened with Adam’s and Hore gave the Pies a bit of a run on and a bit of an edge until Billings and Cross snuffed them out. Go Casey.

Missed the game tonight but just read this thread from the first bounce to the final siren.

Well done posters.

To say that you gave me a feel for the game is understating it

Thanks to all

Respectfully disagree.

Billings has played 172 AFL games over 12 seasons, averaging about 14-15 games per season. Clearly he has been good enough for AFL: he is in the top 1000 all time VFL/AFL games played (over 13000 have played at least 1 game, and only ~4000 have got to 50 games).

Has he been an AFL star or able to regularly dominate at AFL level? No. Maybe right now he fits the "too good for VFL but not good enough for AFL" descriptor, but it doesn't sum up his career.

However right now I thinkthat is how Laurie is tracking. He'll get more chances this year and next, but I suspect ultimately he will be not be good enough to play regularly at AFL level.

Noah was selected to play for the Oakleigh Chargers against the Sandringham Dragons in tonight’s Coates Talent League game.

And just for the record, Noah Yze was among the best players and had 23 disposals (8 kicks, 15 handpasses), 6 tackles and 3 inside 50s and kicked a goal for Oakleigh Chargers in their 26-point win over Sandringham Dragons last night.

I only saw the last quarter but I was pleased (?) that TMac was there. Solid , reliable, did not panic. Hope he did well the first 3 quarters

Hopefully not. I think that Bill could be a good AFL level player if he was given a reasonable go at it

Unfortunately, for us, I wouldn’t be surprised if that was at another club.

yeah, every chance

he is classique 'good, ordinary'

AFL website

Mason Cox's second goal with just minutes remaining helped seal a nine-point win for the Magpies over Casey.

The 211cm big man, who was dropped for last week's AFL win over Hawthorn, also had nine disposals, three clearances and 22 hitouts rotating through the ruck.

The whole article is written up as a Filth win. No mention of a Casey player anywhere. AFL is The Filth

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
