It takes 3 years to learn this…??

They're un-learning to an extent. Goodwin talked about a sophsiticated version of "just kick it" several times during press conferences in 2021.

Yeah Ryan was there. He’d go to Mars to watch our beloved Dees. Ryan doesn’t look it, but he’Il be 43yo in July. He also doesn’t act it and he’s the first to admit it 😊). As @Katrina Dee Fan said, he’s the most gracious beautiful person you could ever hope to meet. Every week we see little kids watching him and trying to emulate him. It’s heartwarming.

Is Ryan the blonde guy who’s always front and centre of the cheer squad

That’s him. And he doesn’t need a gold glittery jacket, or five hours of makeup application (looking at you, Catman) to stand out. Ok, the hair is a thing but he chooses to colour it anyways, not just for the cheer squad.

Any word on Lindsay?

Ghostwriter mentioned on the training report that Lindsayis ok.😁👍

How good is it that 2 weeks running we've had two first year players that you could legitimately stake a claim as being the Rising star winner.

These two fellas are genuine AFL ready and we could and probably will have two top 5 place getters by season's end. Lalor is the most talented of the group and Reid has been consistent but Langford and Lindsay are well and truly in the frame.

Not sure the lyrical content of Angel of Death would pass muster.

Raining blood tho... thats what we should run out too each game.

Did make me think, what song would I choose... it would be so hard to chose only one...

Be funny if someone chose party cannon and because of the logo they thought it would be fine... then it played... ha ha ha ha

The design of the Lions jumper at the back looked like they were showing their bum crack.

I’m glad I’m not the only one who thought that! Constantly appeared Harris Andrews had been dacked due to Melks close attention.

So ya met Ryan huh? And while you were there talking to Ryan you didn’t think to widen your view a little, say, to the row in front of Ryan, almost directly in front of him? Clearly not, else you could’ve met another DA member, one who was running on three hours sleep and five Red Bulls, one who felt like setting her friggin flogger on fire coz her biceps were crying in pain.

Don’t be a stranger next time! 😊

I don't exist? I was literally only a few seats away from you, GW!!

That's him! He also has an events company Slater and Swann, he's the one running the Todd and Jack Viney at the Sporting Globe in June.

Yeah, plenty of bum crack jokes happening in the Demon Army bay on Sunday!!

He’s been at every game I have attended in the last 25 to 3 years in Melbourne or Perth

AJ’s game against the Giants in the opening round was a ripper, and I’m glad he’s getting more time to adjust to AFL. He’ll offer us plenty this year if he can secure the role as Max’s relief. Much prefer him to all the other options.

Clarry was showing great signs today. Well and truly kept the lid on Neale and displayed a renewed sense of desperation and tenacity.

Sparrow is also slowly turning up the heat. Stats don’t flatter him, but his off-ball/pressure game is underrated.

Our freakish captain aside, the lack of big standouts was down to a whole team rising as one. Swans should be worried.

Good to see Max resting a little early in the 4thqtr, then onto the field again serving the dollop of cream to our game and its responsibilities upon the heads of a fairly inexperienced team profile ... and yes, Sparrow's heat was noticeable, for me, lasting across the game with some impact and deterrence. Spargo worries me, not quite up to the mark at this point often leaving our whole team half-a-man short in terms of impact. I noted the conferencing between Maxi, Ollie and Tracca in that last quarter, when possible, reminding me of the Grand Final 4thqtr in which the gameplay became refreshingly unbeatable.

Ko, the Zork still has one coming against us ... expected it Sunday, can wait for a bigger occasion though. Debts can be paid on delay; let us not forget the mongrel in us all, an unexpected flurry would do just nicely.

Since I’ve been in the DA Ryan’s only missed attending one game, opening round last year and that was only because his flight was delayed.

The previous night on channel 9, Hird was saying that he moved him from the wing down forward and Melky was a much better player now.

Sounded a bit like he was taking credit for Melky‘s growth as a player?

Among the many advancements of Western civilisation to which we owe JH? I await the book.

Haven't really got a problem with that and also JH would think of how good was Goodys coaching

This just popped up in my youtube feed. Never seen it before.

Just watching the replay now for the first time and I think Gerard Healey is losing it. To quote…

6.47 left in the third after Brisbane kicked a goal “there is a significant gulf between these two sides”

6.01 “great defensive stuff from Melbourne they are so close (to Brisbane) it’s not funny”

Must’ve been a big 46 seconds of the game 😂

That's a complete myth. Started off on Neale at bounces / ball ups as a reference then they went their separate ways.

Clayton was back to his best (in terms of his best form this year which is pretty good but still a fair way off his top end from 21 - 23) because he did not play a close checking role he was asked to play last week and which resulted in a decent gain to the Hawks / Newcombe on the day.

Most player ratings had Newcombe a fair way in front last week and Clarry just pipping Neale this week, even though it wasn't a head to head shut down this week like last week.

No its not, as Pates suggests, he definitely played a shut down role.

I guess it's semantics, but whilst i agree he didn't tag neale (which i assume is how you're defining shut down) he was given a shut down role on him, with, as you note, the goal of blunting Neale's influence at stoppages.

And he was super effective in that role.

It's interesting because clarry's weakness at the moment is he is lacking his speed from a standing start.

That has been a problem when he has been a purely offensive mid at stoppages this season because if we don't win first possession his lack of acceleration makes it hard for him to switch to defence, making it easier for opponents to win clean clearances.

But having a job on an oppo gun mid means his starting position and mindset is defensive from the get go.

That reduces opportunities for the oppo to get quality clearances but still keeps clarry close to the coal face where he does his real damage - close quarters and winning the hard ball.

Watching this, kudos to the coaches and players. So much playing out there in terms of planning, but especially in execution.

You'd wonder if he'll ever get it back. Perhaps just needs another pre-season.

That's not even the half of it. There were weird comments all night.

In all seriousness i thought some were borderline concerning.

Just one example.

Melksham was lining up for his FOURTH goal and Healy said something like, 'Melksham lining up for, what his second goal?'

I mean he is a professional caller and he thinks Melksham, who kicked the first goal of the match inside 60 seconds has only kicked one goal late in the game?

It's so great.

I said on the pod that I thought our defensive structure was really good, particularly in the last quarter.

But that was really almost a feeling based on the limited vision you can see watching on TV and the evident fact that we made it difficult for them to chain up those short 30-40 metre kicks the lions love to use to transition the ball.

It was awesome to see that defensive structure and sytem demonstrated so clearly (with pretty basic tools - just shows it doesn't have to be super high tech to be effective).

It was also terrific to get an insight into how zone defences are evolving and the concept of depth perceptio.

The vision of our players lining up on the diagonal to block the oppo kick from the pocket was fascinating, as was how much direction and talk we do to maintain structures.

Also loved the fritter pump up and the vision of fritter and koz working super hard on transition in the play that ended up with koz spotting up Friitter for a shot from 45 metres.

Oh, and also loved the set play vision at the end with White highlighting how pumped tracc and maxy were when it came off.
