    We are getting better but haven't beaten any quality sides.

    I have had a good feeling about this game all week. Barrass out is huge. Hawks will be well off their best 22.

    This needs to be a statement game for us.

    Feeling quite optimistic about this game. I think we can get it done and if we do it'll be a huge statement, hopefully a galvanising moment for the rest of the season. Viney to go ballistic.

    The Dorks have only beaten GWS in the top 8. Not sure there playing as well as people think.

    A lot of our game has been to stop teams using overlap handball to breach defences. We are a work in progress but I suspect this will suit playing the Hawks.

    Agree Jnr.

    Hawks look good on paper and ladder position but haven't really demonstrated they're a legitimate contender yet.

    They may stamp themselves at some stage this year though, hopefully it's not this week.

    Unbiased commentary on Dees radio? What, is it being hosted by Demonland posted?

    "We are terrible. We can't kick goals. Simon is not the right guy".

    I reckon listening to Dermie is sometimes less depressing than reading Demonland.

    Last time we had Dees radio, Tom Morris was on commentary, with Lilly Mithen and Robbo special comments.

    I'd imagine the ox will be there, who else?

    I thought the last time we had Dees radio was the 2023 SF against Carlton. I still have nightmares about that game and Viney's kick to Weitering.

    It's the last time I remember. It was 2022 SF. I'm sure we would have had it in 23. I wasn't aware.

    Best way to combat the overlap is to retreat from the mark straight away if you have applied the best amount of pressure without creating a spliage.

    Dont be a bystander in no man's land like we done on countless occasions.

    If you can't affect the play (if it's not a slow play ahead) once you stand on the mark they are they have opened up countless possibilities going forward.

    We are starting to do this well enough, always room for improvement.

    Hopefully we are set up in the areas we want them to kick it into i.e corridor and we are ready to pounce.

    What we don't want to see is this chippy little link kick down the wings without any rolling defensive pressure.

    These all open up overlap opportunities to rebound into our 50.

    Apologies if I have missed something and this has been answered before (numerous times), but have we not had any training reports this week? I see Training Reports have their own page now, accessed from the side menu, but the most recent item is from the 8th March.

    They didn't have a recovery session at Gosch's, earlier in the week. Therefore no reports from the City track watchers,@BigFez.

    They had full training, Tuesday on Casey.

    I assume, a main session at Casey today.

    There is a captain's run at Gosch's tomorrow.

    Home game, Saturday arvo, no issues with the weather... etc.

    It's also a replacement game for Hawthorn home game members so that lot should be there too.

    I'd be disappointed if it wasn't at least 60k

    I'm a big believer in history when predicting a crowd and most Hawks/Dees crowds have hovered around the high 30's/low 40's. Even when Hawthorn were flying in 2012-2015 the crowds were in the 30's so it's a tall order to suddenly expect 60K for this one, even with Hawthorn being back.

    For reference we got 50,000 to round 23 2023 on a perfect Sunday arvo, our home game. I believe the crowd may have been inflated due it being a BCNA game.

    Now - Hawks are up and about but we've been a disappointment for most of the year, so that balances things out.

    I would suggest high 40's on Saturday and for goodness sake can they open the top levels of the Southern and Ponsford stands which they often don't for our home games.

    I’m lucky. My boys basketball game is at 10.30am so we’re good to go to the game

    The 1.20 time slot is very early

      There was a time during the current Melbourne cycle that goes back to before the premiership when the club was the toughest to beat in the fourth quarter. The Demons were not only hard to beat at any time but it was virtually impossible to get the better them when scores were close at three quarter time. It was only three or four years ago but they were fit, strong and resilient in body and mind. Sadly, those days are over. This has been the case since the club fell off its pedestal about 12 months ago after it beat Geelong and then lost to Carlton. In both instances, Melbourne put together strong, stirring final quarters, one that resulted in victory, the other, in defeat. Since then, the drop off has been dramatic to the point where it can neither pull off victory in close matches, nor can it even go down in defeat  gallantly.

      At twenty-four minutes into the third term of the game between the Casey Demons and Footscray VFL at Whitten Oval, the visitors were coasting. They were winning all over the ground, had the ascendancy in the ruck battles and held a 26 point lead on a day perfect for football. What could go wrong? Everything. The Bulldogs moved into overdrive in the last five minutes of the term and booted three straight goals to reduce the margin to a highly retrievable eight points at the last break. Bouyed by that effort, their confidence was on a high level during the interval and they ran all over the despondent Demons and kicked another five goals to lead by a comfortable margin of four goals deep into the final term before Paddy Cross kicked a couple of too late goals for a despondent Casey. A testament to their lack of pressure in the latter stages of the game was the fact that Footscray’s last ten scoring shots were nine goals and one rushed behind. Things might have been different for the Demons who went into the game after last week’s bye with 12 AFL listed players. Blake Howes was held over for the AFL game but two others, Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin (not officially listed as injured) were also missing and they could have been handy at the end. Another mystery of the current VFL system.

      Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.
