Round 7 gets underway in iconic fashion with the traditional ANZAC Day blockbuster. The high-flying Magpies will be looking to solidify their spot atop the ladder, while the Bombers are desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top eight.

Later that evening, Fremantle will be out to redeem themselves after a disappointing loss to the Demons, facing a hungry Adelaide side with eyes firmly set on breaking into the top four.

Saturday serves up a triple-header of footy action. The Lions will be looking to consolidate their Top 2 spot as they head to Marvel Stadium to clash with the Saints. Over in Adelaide, Port Adelaide will be strong favourites at home against a struggling North Melbourne. The day wraps up with a fiery encounter in Canberra, where the Giants and Bulldogs renew their bitter rivalry.

Sunday’s schedule kicks off with the Suns aiming to bounce back from their shock defeat to Richmond, taking on the out of form Swans. Then the Blues will be out to claim a major scalp when they battle the Cats at the MCG. The round finishes with a less-than-thrilling affair between Hawthorn and West Coast at Marvel.

Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?

tipping:

  • us?

  • filth

  • crom?

  • bears

  • pear

  • gw$?

  • gc17?

  • puddy tatts

  • dingley

best results for us are probably not too different; we need teams in that 8-16 range (those who are two wins above us) to not get a 'break' on us

i look at the 8 at the moment and i wonder how close it is to being set - hard to see anyone outside of flagmantle, the pear, and the bloods pushing up into the top 8

Hmm interesting round of footy.

Us V Tiges. Tiges play a pretty consistent standard from what I’ve seen. It’s not a super high standard (yet), but it’s clearly enough to win if you don’t take your chances. This is ours to win or lose and I’m putting faith into the team that we won’t regress to full blown trash. Us but it will be close.

Coll V Ess. Coll. Obvs.

Freo V Adel. Crows haven’t beaten them in WA since 2016. Bad signs for Freo if they drop this one. Can Adelaide become a Top 4 contender? I’m backing the Crows.

Saints V Fitzroy. Saints doing their yearly ‘oh wow saints look amazing’ to ‘oh, wait what? Do they suck?’ Why does it feel like for 5 seasons, saints have the biggest gap between their best and worst footy of any team? Fittezroy.

Port V North. Port.

GWS V Doggies. Darcy out is just too big for Doggies. I expect GWS to bounce back. I don’t reckon they’re playing at their best either and these 2 obvs dislike each other which is GWS advantage. The meaner GWS are the better they are.

Suns V Sydney. Expect Dimma to have the Suns coming out breathing fire after the Richmond loss. King had 2 kicks for the game I think. Big day out for him.

Carlton V Geelong. Geelong but, I feel like Carlton are going to smash a good team out of nowhere soon, go back to being mid. Wouldn’t be shocked if it’s this game.

Hawks V Eagles. Hawks.

I feel like the chances of Pies beating Essendon VS us beating Richmond should be a lot more than 7%

If nth get done by 85-100 points, look out clarkson

Is on a five year deal to the end of 2027.

In a letter to members on Friday morning, president Sonja Hood said Clarkson's signature was a "real watershed moment for our club".

"Our former number 23, Shinboner #781, and four-time premiership coach will lead our talented, young group from 2023 until at least 2027," she wrote.

If North have to pay out more than two years of Clarkson's contract, which must have been pretty solid to lure him to what was a bit of a basket-case, it could wreck the club. How would it be processed under the coaching soft cap? Even the simple bottom-line of effectively paying the salaries of one ex coach and the new coach for two years would be massive for a club operating on very tight financial margins.

Of course, if Clarkson has lost the players and/or the plot, keeping him on for the remainder of the five years, right into Tasmania coming in, could quite literally end the club.

Imagine the tension in the air at Arden Street.

The pressure to turn things around right [censored] now.

This is a case for mine of some of the media laying the boots in to a team/coach, wayyyyy too early.

They had 5 different coaches between the end of 2020 and 2023 so guaranteed player development in that time will be stuffed. Clarkson has only had this group (which is the youngest list and 3rd most inexperienced for games) continuously since last year.

Clarkson can’t fix years of lost development or years of playing under different coaches, in 1 and a bit seasons.

Our percentage is woeful but we might make it a little better over the next two weeks.

We need teams 8-12 to lose which would then put us one game and percentage behind.

It's a very tough mountain to climb from here

Hawks losing to the Eagles wouldn't hurt assuming we can beat both the Eagles and Hawthorn

Insufficient intent has gone completely insane

Losing interest now.

Collingwood winning is boring and joyless and only Essendon being humiliated could give it flavour.

Time for a nap and then some history of early modern medical-botanical science in the Netherlands.

Is something only Demons fans say.

Umpires definitely giving Coll the benefit of the doubt many times. I've seen 3 or 4 throws and a couple of insufficient attempts not paid to the bombers. Wet weather or not, they should be paid. They usually are to Coll... surprise, surprise

Looks cold and miserable down there today. The pies supporters are going to have to huddle around the meth pipe to keep warm

Could be super embarrassing for the Peptides here.

They should thank their very few stars that it's raining or they'd be looking down the barrel of 100 plus defeat imv

2 x Howlers from Howes = 1 Turnover Goal 👏

I know a lot of Melbourne supporters like to downplay Collingwood’s prospects, probably because of recent history between the 2 teams.

However, which team would you be confident of beating Collingwood on prelim or grand final day at MCG?

Perhaps Geelong?

Duursma has been a woefull addition to the bombers. What did they trade to get him?

Was it not Zerk-Thatcher (or however you spell his name)?

Agreed he’s not a player that matches his high draft pick but he probably played a blinder at Gather Rd the other week.

Might have to eat my words here. Peptides have found a spark

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

When looking back at the disastrous end to the game, I find it a waste of time to concentrate on the final few moments when utter confusion reigned. Forget the 6-6-6 mess, the failure to mark the most dangerous man on the field, the inability to seal the game when opportunities presented themselves to Clayton Oliver, Harry Petty and Charlie Spargo, the vision of match winning players of recent weeks in Kozzy Pickett and Jake Melksham spending helpless minutes on the interchange bench and the powerlessness of seizing the opportunity to slow the tempo of the game down in those final moments.

  • CASEY: Sandringham

The Casey Demons rebounded from a sluggish start to manufacture a decisive win against Sandringham in the final showdown, culminating a quarter century of intense rivalry between the fluctuating alignments of teams affiliated with AFL clubs Melbourne and St Kilda, as the Saints and the Zebras prepare to forge independent paths in 2026. After conceding three of the first four goals of the match, the Demons went on a goal kicking rampage instigated by the winning ruck combination of Tom Campbell with 26 hitouts, 26 disposals and 13 clearances and his apprentice Will Verrall who contributed 20 hitouts. This gave first use of the ball to the likes of Jack Billings, Bayley Laurie, Riley Bonner and Koltyn Tholstrup who was impressive early. By the first break they had added seven goals and took a strong grip on the game. The Demons were well served up forward early by Mitch Hardie and, as the game progressed, Harry Sharp proved a menace with a five goal performance. Emerging young forwards Matthew Jefferson and Luker Kentfield kicked two each but the former let himself down with some poor kicking for goal.
Young draft talent Will Duursma showed the depth of his talent and looks well out of reach for Melbourne this year. Kalani White was used sparingly and had a brief but uneventful stint in the ruck.

The Demons return to the scene of the crime on Saturday to face the wooden spooners the Eagles at the Docklands. Who comes in and who goes out? Like moving deck chairs on the Titanic.
