Mind blowing that Petty is not playing VFL, dude canโ€™t read ball drop, slow, weak, blames others when caught out of position. Drop and trade him while heโ€™s got any trade capital in him.

This doesnโ€™t make sense nor does dropping him against Fremantle

Hi name is Culley - not with an "S"

Goodwin backs his program, the problem is we are 0-5 with a totally DELUSIONAL coach that has overt grandios opinions of his ability that he has a master plan! Sorry his time has come and gone with 1 lousy flag to show for it! Nup not buying!

โ€œ1 lousy flagโ€ has to make it into the Demonland โ€œhot takesโ€ Hall of Fame.

Iโ€™m having a good chuckle to myself imagining demons supporters crying tears of joy after waiting a lifetime to see the Dees make it to the pinnacle of the sport and youโ€™re just like โ€œwho cares itโ€™s one lousy flag!โ€

It wouldnโ€™t be his only entry in the hot takes, in similar fashion to Jeremy Howe regularly featuring in mark of the week. Every week he provides comedy gold

Fritsch is gone, who to blame for this loss?

Relax, Sparrow is still there

Actually I wouldnโ€™t have minded if they gave Sestan a game this week - omit Melksham. Sestan needs to be given a chance.

Actually I wouldnโ€™t have minded if they gave Kynan Brown a game this week - omit Spargo. (Spargo had 1 tackle and 4 missed tackles last week ). Kynan Brown knows how to tackle and needs to be given a chance.

Both or either of these changes would have been okay by me

I know its been slim pickings but our named forward line has kicked 8 afl goals between them for the year.. thoughts and prayers for the Fremantle backline.

You could have dropped plenty of other players. Perhaps it is a little too late. Freo to win , Goody to get sacked surely !!!!

He probably means one โ€œlousyโ€ flag because most of us didnโ€™t get to see that one flag, and wonโ€™t have the opportunity to see one anytime soon.

Itโ€™s not always about who replaces them. Viney doesnโ€™t warrant a game atm, thatโ€™s the statement Iโ€™d make. Give Culley a run.

100% agree, and that was my underlying point.

I just don't understand how after all the outrage about certain players getting a game, there is now even more discontent about who replaces them when they are dropped

We have to field 22 players. If we are going to drop guys like Fritsch, JVR, Petty, Viney, Sparrow, Rivers or Spargo it shouldn't be a surprise that inexperienced players from the 2's will be coming in.

Good on Omac for a return to the the Freo seniors. Good luck to him.

I read this a lot.

First of all, if you think the flag was "lousy", I can't help you - that's on you. It was, for me and I dare say the majority of Melbourne supporters, the complete opposite.

But out of interest, how many of us do you think would have actually got a ticket to the G on Grand Final day?

I personally didnโ€™t find the flag to be โ€œlousyโ€ but itโ€™s lousy to think many of us missed the flag live and at the same time cannot see any prospect of seeing one in the short to medium term.

In answer to your question, I would say 22,000 MCC members (there is purported to be about 24,000 MFC supporters in the MCC), 1,000 AFL members, 16,000 club members and a number of supporters that wouldโ€™ve scored via the corporate allocation.

Plenty.

I reckon he probably had just on half a match tops Roost.

He did a few very good things but it wasn't a serious hit out and he was off and on a fair bit also.

He needs more time imv both for his own sake and i would guess for the FD to take a good look and asses where he's at physically and in a form sense etc.

Really hope he comes on quickly also. Could be a beauty

Yep,so the blame is the forward line and forward line only, should have made a statement and dropped the turnover king,Viney

What a silly call from this poster calling Fritsch a 0% chance of getting dropped this week.

Of course heโ€™s going to get dropped after his best game of the year and kicking a goal that electrified the side for a few rare minutes.

Who do you put in to the midfield instead..? Thereโ€™s nothing there..

A statement was made, on players that we all acknowledge were out of form. At least the midfield will have something new to kick to, maybe itโ€™s the spark.

If you can't mark the ball when the midfielders do get the ball to you, then you should be dropped.

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Hawthorn and Melbourne. Two teams with impressive form from last week but with seasons that are travelling on different trajectories meet in Saturdayโ€™s twilight game for what could well be the most intriguing contest of the AFLโ€™s penultimate round. Sadly, the game has been relegated to that unappealing time slot in the weekend when Melburnians are typically preoccupied with activities other than football. It falls between the morning's shopping, afternoon sport and recreation, and Saturday night fever. A time usually reserved for relatively insignificant events but this one is not a nothingburger for either of the clubs or their fans.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterdayโ€™s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown andย  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
