Wow I guess I retract my previous post suggesting people need to relax 🤣

Would hope that if we were paying up to $700,000 of his wage we’d be asking for a high pick in return

Genuinely surprised we seem to be open to moving on both Trac and Clarry in one off season

I’m not against it at it’s clear we’re not a contender in our current form, but geez you’d hope we’d have a plan to bring in some best 23 players in the next year or two or we’re going to be in for a lot of pain

There's a non stop trade radio show that needs constant content and player managers who love to fill it.

But yeah, Clarry shoud've been told earlier. The only explanation is that King has a lower value on him than our footy department and has re-evaluated the plans. But even then the nonsense about a new role and wanting to coach him make King look like an [censored].

Me either.

This whole new approach is an absolute breath of fresh air.

Kingy doing something in a space of 12 minutes that Goodwin couldn't do for the past 3 years with Oliver.

Honestly…just go back & listen to Kings interview this morning. He stated quite clearly that he had spent his first day with the coaches that are still at the club & also the list management team , talking about the list..where they saw it ..what we need etc.Does anyone honestly think he made this decision without in-depth conversations with people that know Clarry very well. He also talked about the game plan of teams now & how the inside mid is not a big thing anymore . Don’t automatically default to Goodwin. He has moved on ..we need to move on & put our trust in the new coach (until we don’t). I will miss Clarry probably because he wants to play for us but I’ll be the first one to say..none of us really knows what went down with him or what has gone on with him.

Amazing how the media are already lining Clarry up for the usuals - Geelong, Collingwood etc. No doubt the narrative will be a 4th round pick is enough.

Biggest bunch of nuffies outside of Pies fans. They really are a joke.

This is exactly how I believe the conversation would’ve gone.

Clarrie wears his huge heart on his sleeve. Had the meeting gone the way the journos want us to believe, you would NOT see a funny post from Clarrie. You’d see either an angry post or total silence, the latter being the most likely of the two.

I truly believe Clarrie would sooner change roles or play for Casey than move to another club. When he says he loves the MFC, he means it.

Hes on the plane to Sydney so i dont think its as straightforward as that.

I’m starting To think we should hold onto Trac unless the deal is too good to turn down. Just cut clarry loose. Too much change might be a bad thing especially with a new coach.

We don’t need to be (and most likely won’t be) competitive in the way people want, for 26.

We want individuals that can perform specific roles that SK wants over the next 5 years that aligns with his philosophy on this project.

The class of ‘21 is done. The game evolves every 18 months. This is the process that gets that occurring.

It’s exciting times.

Change is hard and emotional though. 😢☺️😇

I think there a couple of conspiracies in play.

1: As a part of the AFL equalisation fund, we need to provide AFL trade radio with enough content to keep the station afloat. No content, no payments! This has to explain our ability to generate headlines! We are elite at it.

2: The MFC just informed me yesterday that my membership has automatically rolled over into 2026. Less than 24 hours later we tell Oliver, my favourite player of all time, to look elsewhere! Can’t tell me that is a coincidence!!!!

#itsthevibe or is it #Illuminati

Either way, I’m not happy and going to have a glass, yes a full glass, of my favourite Oban.

I think the other side of this is i think Petracca, Oliver and May to some extent have been masking how good our youth actually is and that's where it's going to surprise a few next year

Lindsay, Langford, Kozzie, Turner, Windsor, Tholstrup, Rivers, Bowey, Chandler, Van Rooyen and so on is a really good group

Typical of these threads. None of us have any idea why he has gone ot Sydney. Did GWS tell him if you ever want to leave MFC, just hop on a plane immediately - maybe check if we are available. Or did Oliver fly up hoping to sell himself with no notice? Both seem unlikley - so reading anything into it is a stretch.

Wasn't this the reason we sacked Goody?

This is my biggest concern around game style and the sort of player we want and need. Contest will never die. It worries me if we're shipping off all/most of our contested ball winners.

Correct.

JVR is another who has said he hates it in the ruck which is fair but he really really needs to step up and prove to us that he is too good to be taken out of that forward line. Once he starts holding them marks our forward line will change dramatically and actually give us time to set up defensively if he misses instead of the constant quick transition from other teams.

We went that far off as a club… specifically with our playing list. We needed to make changes either the game plan and style. These players changes are drastic and weren’t necessary

Correct me if I am wrong, did Guerra not say in a radio interview that Petracca and Oliver were both listed as best 22 players in Steven King's coaching presentation? The last week would suggest otherwise. So who is talking rubbish? King in his coaching presentation, or Guerra in his radio interview?

54 minutes ago, DeeSpencer said:

Guerra actually said best 25.

King seems genuinely disappointed in Tracc not giving him the benefit of the doubt to stick around. Same as Judd.

Oliver might well have been 25th of 25. After meeting with the assistant coaches and fitness staff King might've had his opinion on Oliver lowered. That's not unreasonable.

'When the facts change, I change my mind - what do you do, sir?'

Wow so our once midfield that went bang bang bang gone! Who’s going to replace Trac & Oliver??? What is their strategy as unless if ur replacing them with ready made talent we are finishing at the bottom!

Not sure if you've been paying attention or not. But that game style died long ago

So that has me wondering about the discussion with Viney. He is the player that I thought the modern game has moved on from. He is the one I thought would not be first pick and needed a role change, perhaps to a defensive forward role. Looks like he will now be needed full time in the guts.

Viney and Oliver basically fill the same role. Viney is also a leader so club clearly happy to keep good old heads around.

Trac was relatively open with the club that he was dissapointed with the culture and professionalism of Clarry. and was one of the reasons he wanted to leave last year, wonder if we said to trac if we get rid of the "trouble" would you stay.

*this is only rumor mongering but thought about it today

Yes, that's what people are missing here. Petracca, Oliver and Viney just can't kick.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 2 Jacob van Rooyen

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.

Salem proved to be a valuable contributor as a reliable and solid one-on-one medium-sized defender in what was undoubtedly his most impressive season since the premiership year. He remains a highly capable rebounding option for the Demons as he approaches his 200th game at the club.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #4 Judd McVee

Following an injury-interrupted start to the season, McVee struggled to maintain the standard he established in 2025 as he pursued an expanded role within the team structure. He remained a firm fan favourite and the club had hoped to negotiate a new contract with the former rookie selection from Western Australia, whose partner, Lily Johnson, plays for Melbourne's AFLW side. Those hopes were dashed when he expressed his desire to return to his home state and play for Fremantle. Like all players who have worn the red and blue and are leaving this year, we wish him well in the future.
