The Petracca situation I completely understand, from his point of view and the club’s.

The Oliver situation has me absolutely baffled.

Would hope that if we were paying up to $700,000 of his wage we’d be asking for a high pick in return

He's no longer worth a high pick even if we pay $700,000. This is about moving him on and building our next premiership midfield

The meeting with Clarry is to outline expectations and his role. He’s all in and so is the coach on him.

Not your best few weeks Danny

Absolutely part of necessary due diligence to assess the market for Oliver.

While i can't say I am a fan of seeing Petracca meet with other clubs and entertaining trades. Retaining Petracca and shipping Oliver will be the best move for short term on-field success.

If both are departing, we must be targeting some young best 22 players to trade in, because if we get a stack of mediocre draft picks I think it will blow up in our face.

$700k is a huge chunk of cap to shallow. I reckon we’re better off keeping him if that’s the case.

Of course it might not be true but a journo making a statement like that, which is so hard to believe, actually makes me think it might in fact be true.

This is genuinely insane.

  1. What's going on with Clarry that we're suddenly this desperate to get rid of him?

  2. How is the media getting hold of this?

  3. WTF

more leaks. Leaks. Leaks. Leaks. Has Tom Morris got our offices bugged

blow the place up … we took nearly 7 years for Roos and Jackson and JT to build the list. Now we are self destruct mode and

in a low quality draft, the Dees are pushing to off load players and potentially get picks where they get pushed back

salary cap issues wtf we have cleared the decks and added zero players in the last 3 years of any SC substance

memories here of clearing the decks and pushing out popular players like James McDonald. It took us years to recover and be competitive.

our membership numbers are in the toilet and going backwards as others push up !!?! wtf this won’t help

Tim Lamb has failed across 3 x years of trading. Only saved by JT drafting

remember Mark Neeld. Talked tough. Was the “best assistant going around”. We will break eggs he said too. And he lasted 18 months.

without Trac and Clarry, we will be bottom 3 next year. Only Tigers and Eagles to battle with

Ok I’m frustrated and angry and gutted by our fuccccj ups!!!

This situation is clear as day for me. If we trade Clarry, I don’t renew my membership, simple.

Maybe tassy draft concessions are driving these decisions. Clear the decks, collect picks and rebuild now.

If this is true with Clarry, then we've botched it. We could have shopped around in a mature way to maximise his value - instead it's exploded and we've lost positioning now. I'm not against moving him on, but it's so disappointing it happens this way and we'll get [censored] all in return for the greatest Melbourne midfielder/s in my lifetime. Only at Melbourne!

Also, King said he expects to be playing finals next year and wants them both in the team. Clarry is still at an age where if he's fit, he could be an elite inside midfielder. Why would you move him to a position that doesn't maximise his strengths if you intend for him to stay? Seems like a strange start here...

So either King wasn't honest about Oliver in his plans or they've completely botched it. Either way, this now seems untenable but also how are we meant to even get another team to bite even paying 700k a year?

Why not tell Clarry's manager to go drum up interest and we'll entertain anything they come back with. This seems like going the nuclear option after 2 years of failing the nuclear option.

I hate this for Clarry. The timing stinks. If you're going to ask a player to look elsewhere, then show him the respect of a bit more notice and opportunity, surely. May got it.

Youll renew. just like the rest of us will

I hate that you are right. But you are right

The way this club goes about things, both on and off the field, just beggars belief at times.

I'm not convinced we are capable of being a serious football club. Why is this stuff playing out in the media in almost real time?

I wonder if all parties walked in in good faith and the new coach says this is how it’s going to be and Oliver lost it and it went off piste from there

How is the club leaking this badly and this quickly?? Amateur hour here. Such a disappointment!

I assume you mean the 2024 Brownlow?

There's a non stop trade radio show that needs constant content and player managers who love to fill it.

But yeah, Clarry shoud've been told earlier. The only explanation is that King has a lower value on him than our footy department and has re-evaluated the plans. But even then the nonsense about a new role and wanting to coach him make King look like an [censored].

Well I guess this means Vines keeps his midfield spot next year?

I have no problem with the club looking to move clarry. His output v his salary are poles apart.

But paying 700k is bonkers and makes no sense to me.

And I reckon we should have let clarry know sooner than this week.

Viney is a positive leader around the club. Trac and clarry are not.

Our opening bounce set up for the first game next season is going to look markedly different from this year’s, bearing in mind that JV certainly isn’t a walk up start either, based on last year’s output

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.

Salem proved to be a valuable contributor as a reliable and solid one-on-one medium-sized defender in what was undoubtedly his most impressive season since the premiership year. He remains a highly capable rebounding option for the Demons as he approaches his 200th game at the club.

Following an injury-interrupted start to the season, McVee struggled to maintain the standard he established in 2025 as he pursued an expanded role within the team structure. He remained a firm fan favourite and the club had hoped to negotiate a new contract with the former rookie selection from Western Australia, whose partner, Lily Johnson, plays for Melbourne's AFLW side. Those hopes were dashed when he expressed his desire to return to his home state and play for Fremantle. Like all players who have worn the red and blue and are leaving this year, we wish him well in the future.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #5 Christian Petracca

The superstar Demon midfielder made a successful return to the fold after his devastating injury last year and the subsequent fallout from the treatment he received, during which time he sought to depart the club. Petracca's professionalism and strong play, both in the midfield and up forward, were outstanding and resulted in him being runner-up in the club's best and fairest count. However, early this week, the club's new CEO, Paul Guerra, confirmed that the under-contract Petracca has again requested a trade, adding that he would only be allowed to leave for a “quality offer that turns our head". No doubt some Demon heads are already spinning.

The former first-round draft selection experienced an average second season, marked by participation in several VFL games, as well as three matches in which he was subbed out. He is nevertheless, a highly regarded talent capable of playing on the wing or behind the ball, with additional aspirations of developing into a centre square midfielder over time.

The Demon stalwart surpassed the number of his father's appearances for the club towards the end of the season. As he approaches his thirties, his pace is inevitably slowing, and he is likely to explore alternative opportunities beyond the team's midfield.
