I cannot believe that in the week before two blockbuster prelims the media is opting to run with Trade week style speculation.

I dont think Trac is going anywhere, but if he does it will need to be an incredible deal

That’s because we’re sick of the infantilism that drives the day-to-day footy narrative. For example — endless fawning over the Daicoses and Ashcrofts that both claim claims with a packet of crisps, while pretending it’s all homegrown genius. Or the “favourable draws” that magically appear for certain clubs every year, as if by divine right. Or the blind eye to salary cap gymnastics that would make an accountant blush. Why bother analysing the actual prelims when we can all pretend the competition is a fairy tale instead of a rigged circus?

That's total bollocks.

Sorry I probably should have added a few more details to what i was trying to express, the media replayed alot of behind the play footage throughout the year on multiple platforms stating Petracca's body language/ communication with team mates when frustrated wasn't at level a leader should be portraying, but at the same time he wasn't the only one in the team doing this. I agree with them as i feel its not the best look but i am hopeful King can help address this.

Carlton are a key player in the sense that Curnow wants to go to the Suns who in turn have the draft picks to satisfy us. With Curnow gone Carlton have the salary cap but I expect we would have to pay something to maximise the deal (Say $250k a year)

The interesting hypothetical is what would we do with those draft picks. I'd use them and simply get $1.25M off our books

I'd give the money to the Salvation Army

Oh FFS. Nothing but hyperbole. It wasn't a near death experience.

By that metric, giving birth is a "near-death experience".

Yep I was in the room at the same time and I was beside myself five times.

Under a new coach who seemingly has a brain , i Don't see Petracca and Oliver leaving . They use to be the best in the business not so long ago. However don't be surprised if we trade out one or two experienced players.

Melbourne have asked veteran premiership defender Steven May to explore his trade options, only days after Steven King was introduced as coach. So there's one.

I really think you've got to decouple list management decisions from the coaching appointment.

Sure, the coach will have a say, but list management decisions should be made with the mid to long term view in mind.

This is why we've been able to make decisions prior to King's selection.

I'm sure in consultation with King, we will also up or curtail our pursuit of certain players depending on the game style we want to play next year and beyond.

But list management decisions like May for example, King has already signalled he'll rightly lean on those who are already at the club to make the best decisions on personnel that they have intimate knowledge and dealings with.

I don't disagree but the correlation of May signing a 1 year extension under Goody, and then being told to back his bags under King sticks out like a sore thumb.

It does, but I think you'll find this decision was made before King was appointed. King has obviously signed off on it, but as he said in his presser, he'll trust those already on the ground at the MFC to have the knowledge base and history with May.

Have loved watching him play, but he brings baggage that we can do without now.

Curnow now angling for Geelong.

Amazing to say the least

They have given him the grand tour of the land parcel he will get, and the media protection he will receive.

I've never heard of a player who met with Geelong, and didn't want to go there.

They even managed to turn Clarry's head last year

Of course he is.

He is a surfing farmer at heart.

also loves to wear cotton on

I think we're all starting to ... cotton on....

Petracca is gone, if he wasn't he or his manager would be in the media saying he loves the club.

That's partly why we're into Flanders and Simpkin - we'd need some midfield experience. Not that they replace him, but we're not in rebuild mode

The Suns would be the easiest to get a deal done with and we are after Flanders.

I wonder as someone posted if Tracc and our F1st or a bit more, could get Flanders and Walter.

Haven’t seen us linked to Simpkin anywhere. Thankfully.

Be hard to see them give up on Walter just yet. Unless they get Curnow or someone similar. I think they’d trade King though.

Agree he wants out but the story coming out the other day that he would be open to going to Sydney,GC or Adelaide says to me he hasn’t got a destination lined up yet. Will be interesting to see who comes to the table and what they bring.

Gettable

Heard a caller talking on SEN drilling T Morris about what he has been saying about the MFC which was quite entertaining.

One thing the caller said was something like Tom you are a Melb supporter why do u want Petracca and Oliver to go. His response was something like he hasn’t said that and that his job is to report on footy and clubs and THAT HE IS NOT A PASSIONATE SUPPORTER OF THE CLUB. We are just another club to him.

THIS EXPLAINS EVERYTHING, he doesn’t give a crapola about our club. Top bloke.

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
