Probably need to turn Trac + Kozz into 4 first round picks

This, completely. It’s time

i still maintain we should have taken the 4 first rounders we could have had for Oliver and Petty when we had the chance.

I think the 2 first rounder stuff for Petty was a myth..

Time to bring the kids in, we already had a lot of high picks over the last few years so we have a head start all we have to do is get games into them, we should be looking at what trac and Pickett can bring in so we can get back into the draft, I don’t think any other senior players have have enough value to be worth the trouble

It's going to require some tough decisions. Maybe.

Whatever. Even if we got 1 that year, Adelaide would have given us two for Oliver, we already had two, and we’d have picked up 5 first rounders in one hit, who would all be 2 years in now

Demonlanders, this may well be the first topic I've created (possibly second), but I'm curious as to whether people think we should now be focusing primarily on a rebuild? And making selection calls in line with it.

I certainly do and I'm fearful that if we don't make hard decisions now, we'll be stuck in the doldrums for a very long time.

Thoughts?

I think we are already rebuilding.

Yep. I think we need to cull the list.

Trac or Oliver will be traded as well as Fritta and Kozzie.

We should be able to turn these players into 3-4 really decent picks.

Melksham, McDonald and McAdam to retire.

Delist - Howes, Laurie, Hore, Fullarton, Billings

We have a very good core of very good young players I think we can have a very quick turn around, the worst thing we can do is hang onto this list until the players are worth nothing in trade and fizzle out

Package Rivers, McVee and JVR for West Coast's first and second round picks.

I just suspect we'll need to be significantly more brutal Flowergirl at season's end.

If we don’t do it now and with Tassie coming in we will be stuck in no man’s land, if kozzie wants to go get the best deal we can, 1 of trac or Oliver to go if they want, still need to keep experience aswell we gave up our 1st pick this year but got Lindsay who will have 12 months development into him so not unhappy with that trade that will be a win. Something needs to change that’s for sure

I can only hope it'll be a rebuild like the ones Brisbane and Hawthorn had last season.

We actually have the cattle, but something has clearly been taken from our spirit.

Hard to find once it is lost, but once found again, rebounds hard.

Rebuilding is a very very tough thing to get right. Going 100% draft to rebuild is a very risky proposition and rarely works out. But we need to build our list with the right profile to suit the modern game and we have plenty of list cloggers in our 44.

Oliver is still young and should stay IMO. Same with Kozzy - we have to hold him to contract as he is the type of player we need.

Trac will only get a single 1st round i think, given his age and salary. But we have to offload him. Honestly should have done it last year.

The next 1-2 years will be very important to show that we have bottomed out and are rebuilding. Just as Tassie come in, we should be looking to trade in ready-mades to top up and relaunch.

And Keep Petraca, Salem and Fritsch? No Thanks.

Something we also should take into account is the cap space.

Unloading contracts like Petraca and Fritsch. And couple of retirements, we can at least pay a couple of good FA (not if Lamb is still here)

If you were picking a team 3 weeks ago would you rather Liam Jones and Lobb or May and Petty, Harmes and Baker or Viney and Langdon, Naughton & Vandemeer or JVR and Fritsch.

The coach has lost the players and doesn’t have a relevant gameplan.

We need to be careful to as not trade out everyone at once. Can’t afford to do that and it’s not needed.

If we wish to trade Petracca or similar for meaningful picks we will need to cover half their salary for 2-3 years.

We also have the Brayshaw time bomb as his final years are in our salary cap.

Then you have Tasmania from '27 which will make high draft picks at end of '25 and '26 assume higher values.

Hard to see a way through unless we can really nail our second and third round picks in the next two years.

Seas ahead look rough I'm afraid

No idea why there’s such a turn against Trac. We waste him at FF whilst the ball spends 65%+ of the time at the other end of the ground.

But we have hard calls to make on Viney, Salem, Petty and Fritsch. Rivers too if he doesn’t sort his form out.

How do Collingwood get this done? They have no trade or draft capital, unless they give us gun player, which they won't.

Petty is only 25 and an established KPD, Fritsch is a gun fwd.

Was he hoping after todays effort people realise the problem is bigger than Fritsch’s lack of fwd pressure.

They did have Naicos tho

Can’t see Kalani White being a generational player like he is

White may look at today and think there's no chance he gets a game at the Suns ;)!

I think Petraca has made it clear he wants Collingwood, so it'll be up to him to find the right deal.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Collingwood

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • AFLW REPORT: St. Kilda

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
